Adam Wingard announced on Twitter that Atticus Ross and Leopold Ross are scoring the upcoming Netflix original movie Death Note. The film is directed by Wingard and stars Nat Wolff, Margaret Qualley, Lakeith Stanfield, Willem Dafoe and Shea Whigham. The movie is based on the Japanese manga and follows a young man as he begins killing those he deems unworthy of life when he is intoxicated by the power of a supernatural notebook.

‘Almost Holy’ Soundtrack Announced
Sacred Bones Records will release a soundtrack album for the documentary Almost Holy. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Atticus Ross (The Social Network, Gone Girl, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Leopold Ross (The Book of Eli) & Bobby Krlic (Triple 9). The soundtrack will be released on vinyl on August 19, 2016 and will also be available digitally. The label has previously released an EP featuring three tracks from the score. Almost Holy is directed by Steve Hoover and centers on Gennadiy Mokhnenko, a controversial pastor who made a name for himself by forcibly removing homeless drug-addicted kids from the streets of Mariupol, Ukraine and housing them in his own self-styled rehab facility.

Premiering tomorrow, May 30, is the History event mini-series Roots directed by Phillip Noyce, Thomas Carter, Mario Van Peebles and Bruce Beresford and starring Forest Whitaker, Anna Paquin, Laurence Fishburne, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Anika Noni Rose, Chad L. Coleman, Erica Tazel, Derek Luke, Malachi Kirby and Regé-Jean. The 4-parter’s original music is composed by Alex Heffes (The Last King of Scotland, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, 11.22.63). Philip Miller (Catch a Fire) has co-scored the Noyce-directed first episode. Questlove (Top Five) serves as the executive music producer on the project. Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the animated feature The Angry Birds Movie directed by Fergal Reilly & Clay Kaytis and starring Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Bill Hader, Peter Dinklage, Kate McKinnon and Keegan-Michael Key. The film’s original music is composed by Heitor Pereira (Despicable Me, Minions, The Smurfs). Atlantic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film, as well as a separate soundtrack featuring Pereira’s score. Also opening wide is the comedy sequel Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising directed by Nicholas Stoller and starring Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Rose Byrne, Chloë Grace Moretz, Dave Franco, Ike Barinholtz, Carla Gallo, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Kiersey Clemons and Beanie Feldstein. Michael Andrews (Bridesmaids, Donnie Darko, Bad Teacher, Funny People) who previously scored the 2014 original film has composed the film’s original score. ‘Triple 9’ Soundtrack Details
BFD Records will release a soundtrack album for John Hillcoat’s thriller Triple 9. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Atticus Ross (The Social Network, Gone Girl, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Claudia Sarne & Leopold Ross (The Book of Eli, Broken City) and Bobby Krlic. Also included is a remix of Cypress Hills’ Pigs by Ross. The soundtrack will be released digitally on February 26, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Triple 9 is directed by Hillcoat (Lawless, The Proposition) and stars Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie, Aaron Paul, Norman Reedus, Woody Harrelson and Kate Winslet. The movie follows a gang of criminals and corrupt cops who plan the murder of a police officer in order to pull of their biggest heist yet across town.

The film’s original music is composed by Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Furious 7) and Danny Elfman (Spider-Man, Batman). Opening in around 3300 theaters is the family movie Paddington written and directed by Paul King and starring Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Nicole Kidman, Jim Broadbent, Peter Capaldi and Ben Whishaw as the voice of Paddington. The film’s original music is composed by Nick Urata (Crazy, Stupid, Love, Focus). Decca Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the score, as well as songs from the film by James Brown, Steppenwolf and Lionel Richie.
