Premiering tomorrow, May 30, is the History event mini-series Roots directed by Phillip Noyce, Thomas Carter, Mario Van Peebles and Bruce Beresford and starring Forest Whitaker, Anna Paquin, Laurence Fishburne, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Anika Noni Rose, Chad L. Coleman, Erica Tazel, Derek Luke, Malachi Kirby and Regé-Jean. The 4-parter’s original music is composed by Alex Heffes (The Last King of Scotland, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, 11.22.63). Philip Miller (Catch a Fire) has co-scored the Noyce-directed first episode. Questlove (Top Five) serves as the executive music producer on the project. ‘Outcast’ Soundtrack Details
MovieScore Media will release a soundtrack album for the fantasy adventure Outcast. The album features the film’s original music composed by Guillaume Roussel (3 Days to Kill, Crossing Lines, It Boy). The soundtrack will be released digitally on August 28, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Outcast is directed by Nicholas Powell and stars Nicolas Cage, Hayden Christensen and Yifei Liu. The movie is set in the 12th Century and follows two European Crusaders who chose to wander off toward western China, where they become entangled in romance and antagonism with local royalty.
Atticus Ross to Score Cinemax’s ‘Outcast’
Fox International Studios announced this week that Atticus Ross has been hired to score the upcoming Cinemax original series Outcast. The show is based on the Skybound/Image comic title by creator Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead) and artist Paul Azaceta and follows a young man who has been plagued by demonic possession all his life and, with the help of a preacher with personal demons of his own, embarks on a journey to find answers and regain the normal life he lost. The drama stars Patrick Fugit, Philip Glenister and Gabriel Bateman.

Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the animated feature The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water directed by Paul Tibbitt and featuring the voices of Antonio Banderas, Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, Rodger Bumpass, Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence and Douglas Lawrence. Columbia Records has released a soundtrack featuring five songs from the film. Visit Amazon to download the release. The movie’s original score is composed by John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, Iron Man 2, Elf, Bruce Almighty). No word yet on a release of the composer’s music. Also opening wide is the sci-fi adventure Jupiter Ascending written and directed by Andy & Lana Wachowski and starring Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, Sean Bean, Eddie Redmayne and Douglas Booth. Michael Giacchino (Lost, Star Trek, Up, Ratatouille, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) has composed the film’s original score. Guillaume Roussel has been tapped to score the upcoming martial arts action movie Outcast. The film marks the directorial debut of stunt coordinator and fight choreographer Nick Powell and stars Nicolas Cage, Hayden Christensen and Liu Yifei. The movie is set in the 12th Century and follows two European Crusaders who chose to wander off toward western China, where they become entangled in romance and antagonism with local royalty. James Dormer (Strike Back) has written the screenplay. Jeremy Bolt (Resident Evil, Death Race) is producing the project with Alan Zhang, Karine Martin (The Moth Diaries), Leonard Glowinski, Ying Ye, Gary Hamilton (Bait), Chris Milburn (Getaway, An American Haunting), George Mizen and Tove Christensen (Shattered Glass).
