Perseverance Records has launched a new Kickstarter campaign for the world premiere recordings of two unreleased scores written by Academy Award-winning composer James Horner (Titanic, Braveheart, Avatar, Apollo 13, Field of Dreams, Aliens, A Beautiful Mind, Legends of the Fall). The titles include Oliver Stone’s 1981 horror film The Hand starring Michael Caine & Andrea Marcovicci and Peter Yates’ 1983 drama The Dresser starring Albert Finney & Tom Courtenay. Among the key people involved in the project, which is supported and endorsed by the Horner Estate and the composer’s widow Sara, are orchestrator Nikiforos Chrysoloras, blaster beam inventor Craig Huxley, pianist Gloria Cheng and conductor, orchestrator & arranger Matt Dunkley.

Perseverance Records Announces New Recordings of Unreleased James Horner Scores
Perseverance Records has teamed up with Spectral Shimmers Productions and the James Horner Estate to record and release renditions of the legendary film composer’s early, unreleased musical works. The label will produce original arrangements of Horner’s previously unreleased scores for Peter Yates’ 1983 British drama The Dresser starring Albert Finney & Tom Courtenay, and Oliver Stone’s 1981 horror movie The Hand starring Michael Caine & Andrea Marcovicci, and the first in a series of original concert pieces, followed by the composer’s score for the Lewis Teague’s 1979 crime drama The Lady in Red starring Pamela Sue Martin & Robert Conrad, plus a surprise fourth previously unreleased work, written in the early phase of Horner’s iconic career. Grammy-nominated conductor Matt Dunkley and prolific orchestrator Nikiforos Chrysoloras are involved in the project.

Premiering tomorrow, May 30, is the History event mini-series Roots directed by Phillip Noyce, Thomas Carter, Mario Van Peebles and Bruce Beresford and starring Forest Whitaker, Anna Paquin, Laurence Fishburne, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Anika Noni Rose, Chad L. Coleman, Erica Tazel, Derek Luke, Malachi Kirby and Regé-Jean. The 4-parter’s original music is composed by Alex Heffes (The Last King of Scotland, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, 11.22.63). Philip Miller (Catch a Fire) has co-scored the Noyce-directed first episode. Questlove (Top Five) serves as the executive music producer on the project. Stephen Warbeck to Score BBC’s ‘The Dresser’
Stephen Warbeck is scoring the upcoming BBC drama The Dresser. The film id directed by Richard Eyre (Iris, Notes on a Scandal) and stars Anthony Hopkins, Ian McKellen, Emily Watson, Sarah Lancashire, Edward Fox, Vanessa Kirby, Tom Brooke, John Ashton, Ian Conningham, Annalisa Rossi, Helen Bradbury, Carl Sanderson, Matthew Cottle and Martin Chamberlain. The movie is based on Ronald Harwood’s play and tells the story of one fateful night in a small regional theatre during World War II as a troupe of touring actors stage a production of Shakespeare’s King Lear.
