Intrada Records has announced a new soundtrack album for the 1991 animated feature An American Tail: Fievel Goes West directed by Phil Nibbelink & Simon Wells and starring Phillip Glasser, James Stewart, Erica Yohn, Cathy Cavadini, Dom DeLuise, Nehemiah Persoff, Amy Irving, John Cleese and Jon Lovitz. The album features the newly remastered and expanded original score from the Amblin Entertainment production composed and conducted by Academy Award winner James Horner (Titanic, Avatar, Braveheart, A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13, Field of Dreams, Aliens, Legends of the Fall), including previously unreleased music. Also included are all original songs from the film written by Horner & Will Jennings, including the Golden Globe-nominated Dreams to Dream. The 2-CD set is now available to order on the label’s official website, where you can also check out audio samples. MCA Records has released the original 1991 soundtrack album. Intrada has previously released an expanded version of Horner’s score from the 1986 original An American Tail movie back in 2019.

‘Aliens’ 40th Anniversary Vinyl Edition Soundtrack Album Announced
Varèse Sarabande has announced three new 40th Anniversary vinyl reissues of the original soundtrack album for the 1986 sci-fi action/horror classic Aliens written and directed by James Cameron and starring Sigourney Weaver, Michael Biehn, Paul Reiser, Lance Henriksen and Carrie Henn. The album featuring the film’s original score composed and conducted by Academy Award winner James Horner (Titanic, Avatar, Braveheart, Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, An American Tail, Legends of the Fall, The Amazing Spider-Man) and performed by the London Symphony Orchestra will be released as a wide 40th-Anniversary Edition LP on Silver color vinyl, a Barnes & Noble Exclusive 40th-Anniversary Edition LP on “Alien Green” color vinyl, and a Varèse Sarabande 40th-Anniversary Edition LP on “Xenomorph Glow” glow in the dark vinyl on November 13. Release of James Horner’s ‘Skyward Spirit’ Score Announced
The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) has announced the release of newly discovered score by Academy Award-winning film composer James Horner (Titanic, Avatar, Braveheart, A Beautiful Mind, Aliens, Apollo 13, Field of Dreams, Legends of the Fall), more than ten years after his tragic death. Originally written for aerobatic flight display, Skyward Spirit was rediscovered by Horner’s flying teammate Ed Shipley before it was orchestrated and arranged by the composer’s long-standing engineer and good friend Simon Rhodes last year. Recorded by the RSNO in Scotland’s Studio, conducted by Robert Ziegler, the score will be released this Friday, September 4 on all major streaming platforms following its premiere at the International Ayr Show earlier that day.
Expanded ‘Deep Impact’ Soundtrack Album Announced
La-La Land Records has announced a new soundtrack album for the 1998 disaster drama Deep Impact directed by Mimi Leder and starring Robert Duvall, Téa Leoni, Elijah Wood, Morgan Freeman, Vanessa Redgrave and Maximilian Schell. The album features the film’s expanded and newly remastered original score composed and conducted by Academy Award winner James Horner (Titanic, Avatar, Braveheart, Apollo 13, Glory, Field of Dreams, A Beautiful Mind, The Land Before Time, Legends of the Fall), including previously unreleased music. The 2-CD set, which is limited to 3,000 copies, is now available to order on the label’s official website, where you can also check out audio samples. Sony Classical has previously released the original 1998 soundtrack album.
‘Red Heat’ Digital Soundtrack Album Released
Virgin Records has released a digital version of the soundtrack album for the 1988 action comedy thriller Red Heat co-written and directed by Walter Hill and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jim Belushi, Peter Boyle and Ed O’Ross. The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Academy Award winner James Horner (Titanic, Avatar, Braveheart, A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13, Glory, Field of Dreams, The Land Before Time, Legends of the Fall) . The soundtrack is now available to stream/download on Amazon (and most other major digital music services), where you can also check out the track list. ‘Braveheart’ 30th Anniversary Edition Soundtrack Album Announced
Decca Records has announced a new soundtrack release for the 1995 epic Braveheart directed by Mel Gibson and starring.Gibson himself, Sophie Marceau, Angus Macfadyen, Patrick McGoohan and Catherine McCormack. The album features the film’s Academy Award-nominated original score composed and conducted by James Horner (Titanic, Avatar, Field of Dreams, A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13, Glory, Legends of the Fall) and performed by the London Symphony Orchestra, including the content of Decca’s 1995 original soundtrack album and 1997’s More Music from Braveheart release. Kickstarter Campaign Launched for Premiere Re-Recordings of James Horner’s ‘The Hand’ & ‘The Dresser’ Scores
Perseverance Records has launched a new Kickstarter campaign for the world premiere recordings of two unreleased scores written by Academy Award-winning composer James Horner (Titanic, Braveheart, Avatar, Apollo 13, Field of Dreams, Aliens, A Beautiful Mind, Legends of the Fall). The titles include Oliver Stone’s 1981 horror film The Hand starring Michael Caine & Andrea Marcovicci and Peter Yates’ 1983 drama The Dresser starring Albert Finney & Tom Courtenay. Among the key people involved in the project, which is supported and endorsed by the Horner Estate and the composer’s widow Sara, are orchestrator Nikiforos Chrysoloras, blaster beam inventor Craig Huxley, pianist Gloria Cheng and conductor, orchestrator & arranger Matt Dunkley.

The album features the expanded original score from the Walt Disney Pictures production composed and conducted by Academy Award winner James Horner (Titanic, Braveheart, Apollo 11, Avatar, A Beautiful Mind, Field of Dreams, Aliens), including previously unreleased tracks. Quartet Records has announced a new soundtrack album for the 1983 action/war drama Uncommon Valor directed by Ted Kotcheff and starring Gene Hackman, Fred Ward, Randall “Tex” Cobb, Reb Brown, Patrick Swayze, Robert Stack, Harold Sylvester and Tim Thomerson. The album features the remastered (and slightly expanded) original score from the film composed and conducted by Academy Award winner James Horner (Titanic, Avatar, Braveheart, The Land Before Time, A Beautiful Mind, The Mask of Zorro, Apollo 13, Field of Dreams), including around 10 minutes of alternate takes. James Horner Tribute Concert at Film Fest Gent Announced
Film Fest Gent today announced the James Horner Tribute Concert, which will take place on October 17, 2024 in Muziekcentrum De Bijloke, where a selection of the legendary composer’s scores will be performed. Dirk Brossé will lead the Brussels Philharmonic in this musical celebration. Long time colleague and friend of Horner, Simon Franglen, is involved in the program’s curation and will be in attendance at the event. Franglen collaborated with Horner on such films as Titanic, Avatar and The Amazing Spider-Man and completed his score for The Magnificent Seven before composing the music for Avatar: The Way of Water, for which he won the WSA Discovery of the Year Award last year.
