Film Fest Gent has announced the new album Philip Glass – Music for Film featuring music by the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at last year’s World Soundtrack Awards, including all-new studio recordings of selected scores by the composer performed by the Brussels Philharmonic and conducted by the festival’s music director Dirk Brossé. Titles include Glass’ Academy Award-winning scores from Martin Scorsese’s Kundun, Stephen Daldry’s The Hours and Richard Eyre’s Notes on a Scandal, as well as Godfrey Reggio’s Koyaanisqatsi, its second sequel Naqoyqatsi, Errol Morris’s The Fog of War, Woody Allen’s Cassandra’s Dream, Neil Burger’s The Illusionist and Paul Schrader’s Mishima. Also included are over half an hour of previously unreleased music, including selections from David Koepp’s Secret Window, D.J. Caruso’s Taking Lives, the 9/11 documentary Rebirth, the complete score for John Irvin’s Hamburger Hill, a suite from his score for Scott Hick’s No Reservations, two orchestral pieces written for Peter Weir’s The Truman Show, the original complete ending of the piano duet from Park Chan-wook’s Stoker and a new arrangement of Helen’s Theme from Bernard Rose’s Candyman.

Trevor Jones to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award at 26th World Soundtrack Awards
Trevor Jones will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 26th World Soundtrack Awards Ceremony & Concert, the closing event of Film Fest Gent’s WSA Film Music Days 2026. During the concert, a selection of the composer’s work will be performed by the Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Dirk Brossé. Jones has composed scores for over 100 films and television projects, including John Boorman’s Excalibur (1981), Frank Oz’s The Dark Crystal (1982), Jim Henson’s Labyrinth (1986), Alan Parker’s Mississippi Burning (1988), Frank Marshall’s Arachnophobia (1990), Michael Mann’s The Last of the Mohicans (1992), Renny Harlin’s Cliffhanger (1993), Jim Sheridan’s In the Name of the Father (1993), Ridley Scott’s G.I. Jane (1997), Alex Proyas’ Dark City (1998), Roger Michell’s Notting Hill (1999), Roger Donaldson’s Thirteen Days (2000) and Stephen Norrington’s The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003).
‘Debbie Wiseman – Music for Film and Television’ & Expanded ‘Craig Armstrong – Music for Film’ Albums Announced
Film Fest Gent has announced three new albums to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the World Soundtrack Awards. Debbie Wiseman – Music for Film features all-new studio recordings of selected suites and pieces from the 2025 World Soundtrack Awards guest of honor’s film and television scores, performed by the Brussels Philharmonic and conducted by Film Fest Gent music director Dirk Brossé. Among the titles featured on the album are Wilde, Father Brown, Wolf Hall, a a suite from Lewis Gilbert’s Haunted, several pieces from Jean-Paul Salomé’s Arsène Lupin and first-time re-recordings from her scores for Edie and To Olivia. Also included are two previously unreleased pieces: Accession 2023 written for BBC’s coverage of The Coronation of TM The King and Queen Camilla and a suite from Andrew Davies’ television adaptation of He Knew He Was Right, as well as Wiseman’s piano solo performance of Viv and Maurice from Brian Gilbert’s Tom & Viv.
2025 World Soundtrack Awards Nominations Announced
The World Soundtrack Academy has announced the nominees for the 2025 World Soundtrack Awards in the categories of Film Composer of the Year, Television Composer of the Year and Best Original Song. The winners will be announced at the 25th World Soundtrack Awards ceremony, which will take place on October 15, 2025 at Music Centre De Bijloke during Film Fest Gent. Philip Glass & Michael Nyman have previously been announced to receive Lifetime Achievement Awards. The rest of the nominations will be revealed on September 4.
Philip Glass to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award at 25th World Soundtrack Awards
Philip Glass will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the film music concert Minimalism in Motion: Glass, Nyman and Beyond, which will close Film Fest Gent’s Film Music Days 2025 and the 25th World Soundtrack Awards. During the concert, a selection of the composer’s work will be performed by the Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Dirk Brossé who personally presented the award to Glass in New York. The composer who was initially renowned for his work for opera and his symphonies has made an equally impressive contribution to film music, with a rich oeuvre of film scores that include The Hours, Koyaanisqatsi, The Truman Show, Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters and Kundun. He has has previously been recognized at the World Soundtrack Awards in 2007 with two nominations for his Academy Award-nominated score for Notes on a Scandal.
Jerskin Fendrix Named Film Composer of the Year at World Soundtrack Awards
Jerskin Fendrix was named Film Composer of the Year at the 24th World Soundtrack Awards, tonight’s closing event of the 51st Ghent Film Festival, for his scores for Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things (for which he also received an Academy Award nomination earlier this year) and Kinds of Kindness. He was also the winner in the Discovery of the Year category. Natalie Holt was honored as TV Composer of the Year today for her score for the second season of Marvel’s Disney+ series Loki. She has previously been nominated twice in the category and also received a Discovery nomination in 2021. Billie Eislish and Finneas O’Connell won the award in the Original Song category for What Was I Made For? from Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, for which they also received an Academy Award this year.

The full details of the album Elliot Goldenthal – Music for Film have been revealed. The album features music by this year’s recipient of the World Soundtrack Awards Lifetime Achievement Award, Elliot Goldenthal, including all-new studio recordings of selected scores by the Academy Award-winning composer performed by the Brussels Philharmonic and conducted by WAS music director Dirk Brossé. As previously reported, the record includes the world premiere release of two complete concert suites, the Grand Gothic Suite with highlights from the composer’s score for Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever and Batman & Robin and Final Fantasia with music from Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Further highlights include selections from Goldenthal’s scores for Julie Taymor’s Frida & Titus, David Fincher’s Alien³, Michael Mann’s Heat and Neil Jordan’s Interview with the Vampire. Film Fest Gent and the World Soundtrack Academy have announced the second wave of nominees for the 2024 World Soundtrack Awards in the categories Discovery of the Year, Public Choice Award, WSA Game Music Award, Best Original Score for a Belgian Production and Sabam Award for Best Original Composition by a Young Composer. The winners will be announced at the World Soundtrack Awards & concert on October 16 at the Ghent International Film Festival. The album includes two new concert suites for his Academy Award-winning score from Julie Taymor’s Frida, The Grand Gothic Suite, which includes highlights from his Grammy-nominated score for Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever and his never commercially unreleased score for Batman & Robin, the suite Final Fantasia, which celebrates his music for Hironobu Sakaguchi’s Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within and a suite from his score for David Fincher’s Alien 3.
