Varese Sarabande has announced a soundtrack release for the horror thriller Haunt. The album features the film’s original music composed by Golden Globe nominee Reinhold Heil (Cloud Atlas, Helix, The International, One Hour Photo). The soundtrack is now available to order on Varese’s website, where you can also listen to audio clips and check out the full album details. Haunt is directed by Mac Carter and stars Harriston Gilbertson, Liana Liberato, Jacki Weaver and Ione Skye. The movie follows a boy who gets involved with a mysterious neighbor when his family moves into a new home and unwittingly summons a demon. The thriller was released in select theaters earlier this year by IFC Midnight and is now available on DVD.

Weekly Film Music Roundup (January 18, 2013)
Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the supernatural thriller Mama directed by Andy Muschietti and starring Jessica Chastain, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Megan Charpentier and Isabelle Nellsse. The film’s music is composed by Fernando Velazquez (The Impossible, Devil). Quartet Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. Also opening wide is the crime thriller Broken City directed by Allen Hughes and starring Mark Wahlberg, Russell Crowe, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Kyle Chandler, Barry Pepper, Natalie Martinez, Jeffrey Wright, Justin Chambers, James Ransone and Griffin Dunne. The film’s music is composed by Atticus Ross (The Social Network, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), Claudia Sarne and Leopold Ross who have previously scored The Book of Eli for Allen Hughes and his brother. Sundance 2012 Film Music Roundup (Part 3)

Among the documentaries that premiered at this year’s festival is Finding North directed by Kristi Jacobson (Toots) and Lori Silverbush. The film examines the issue of hunger in America through the lens of three people struggling with food insecurity. Both directors are also producing the movie with Julie Goldman (Buck) and Ryan Harrington (American Teen). T Bone Burnett and The Civil Wars have written the documentary’s music. The project marks Burnett’s first documentary credit as a composer. He has previously contributed music to a number of high profile films, including Crazy Heart, O Brother Where Are Thou?, Walk the Line and the upcoming The Hunger Games.
