Artists’ Addictions Records has released a soundtrack album for the indie comedy drama Liberal Arts. The album features three tracks from the film’s score composed by Ben Toth, as well as Moby’s The Poison Tree, Kaiser Cartel’s Favorite Song and the classical pieces used in the film by composers including Beethoven, Wagner and Vivaldi. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out after the jump. Liberal Arts is written and directed by Josh Radnor who also stars in the film alongside Elizabeth Olsen, Richard Jenkins, Allison Janney and Elizabeth Reaser. The movie about an admissions worker at a New York college who visits his liberal arts alma mater where a 19-year old student tries to romance him premiered at Sundance earlier this year and is now playing in limited release and is also available on VOD.

Weekly Film Music Roundup (September 14, 2012)
Two new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the video game adaptation sequel Resident Evil: Retribution directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and starring Milla Jovovich, Sienna Guillory, Johann Urb, Li Bingbing, Shawn Roberts, Kevin Durand, Oded Fehr, Boris Kodjoe and Michelle Rodriguez. The film’s score is composed by tomandandy (The Strangers) who have scored the previous installment in the series. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer duo’s score, as well the end credits song Hexes produced by Bassnectar featuring Chino Moreno (of the Deftones) on vocals. Also opening wide is the 3D re-release of Pixar’s animated hit feature Finding Nemo directed by Andrew Stanton and featuring the voice talent of Ellen DeGeneres, Albert Brooks and Alexander Gould. The film’s music is composed by Thomas Newman who received an Academy Award-nomination for his work on the film. No new soundtrack has been released, but the original 2003 album is still in print (click here to download the album). Playing in front of Finding Nemo 3D is the new Toy Story short Partysaurus Rex, which features music by BT (The Fast and the Furious).

Among the documentaries that premiered at this year’s festival is Finding North directed by Kristi Jacobson (Toots) and Lori Silverbush. The film examines the issue of hunger in America through the lens of three people struggling with food insecurity. Both directors are also producing the movie with Julie Goldman (Buck) and Ryan Harrington (American Teen). T Bone Burnett and The Civil Wars have written the documentary’s music. The project marks Burnett’s first documentary credit as a composer. He has previously contributed music to a number of high profile films, including Crazy Heart, O Brother Where Are Thou?, Walk the Line and the upcoming The Hunger Games.
