The full composer line-up of the new National Geographic documentary series Photographer has been revealed. The show pairs the world’s most extraordinary visual storytellers with today’s leading documentary filmmakers, with each episode focusing on the story of an iconic photographer. The National’s Bryce Dessner (The Two Popes, Cyrano, Bardo, Manhunt, She Came to Me) has composed the score for the episodes Paul Nicklen & Cristina Mittermeier: Win or Die directed by E. Chai Vasarhelyi & Jimmy Chin about two of the world’s most iconic working ocean photographers, and Dan Winters: Life is once. Forever. directed by Pagan Harleman about the photographer who is widely known for his unusual and iconic portraits of celebrities, street photography, scientific work, illustrations and capturing the “hallowed grounds” of NASA. Robert Ouyang Rusli (Problemista, Test Pattern, Bruiser) has scored the episode Campbell Addy: Feeling Seen directed by Crystal Kayiza & Sam Pollard about the fashion photographer who landed on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list.

Weekly Film Music Roundup (July 31, 2020)
Opening in select theaters today is the documentary Rebuilding Paradise directed by Ron Howard. The film’s original music is composed by Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight, Gladiator, The Lion King, Inception) & Lorne Balfe (Mission: Impossible – Fallout, The LEGO Batman Movie, Bad Boys for Life). A soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score for the movie, which also features Pearl Jam’s River Cross as its end credits song, will be announced soon. Opening on VOD today is the romantic drama The Secret: Dare to Dream directed by Andy Tennant and starring Katie Holmes, Josh Lucas, Celia Weston and Jerry O’Connell. George Fenton (The Blue Planet, Hitch, Groundhog Day, Dangerous Liaisons, Anna and the King) has composed the film’s original music. Lightning Glasses and Tone Tree Music have released the original song Waiting written and performed by Striking Matches today. Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the action adventure The Legend of Tarzan directed by David Yates and starring Alexander Skarsgård, Samuel L. Jackson, Margot Robbie, Djimon Hounsou, John Hurt, Jim Broadbent and Christoph Waltz. The film’s original music is composed by Rupert Gregson-Williams (Over the Hedge, Bee Movie, Hotel Rwanda, Click). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as two original songs by Hozier and Zoe Mthiyane. Also opening wide is the fantasy adventure The BFG directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Mark Rylance, Ruby Barnhill, Jemaine Clement, Rebecca Hall, Penelope Wilton, Rafe Spall and Bill Hader. John Williams (Star Wars, E.T., Jurassic Park, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jaws) has composed the film’s original music. Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the thriller Killing Them Softly directed by Andrew Dominik and starring Brad Pitt, Richard Jenkins, James Gandolfini, Ray Liotta, Scott McNairy, Ben Mendelsohn, Vincent Curatola, Max Casella and Sam Shepard. While the film doesn’t feature a full score, Marc Streitenfeld (Prometheus, American Gangster) is credited as providing piano pieces and musical ambiances. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring one track by Streitenfeld, as well as the film’s songs by artists including Carl Stone, The Velvet Underground, James Wilsey, Nico, Kitty Lester and The Wreckery. Also opening wide is the horror thriller The Collection directed by Marcus Dunstan and starring Josh Stewart, Lee Tergesen, Christopher McDonald and Emma Fitzpatrick. Charlie Clouser (Saw series, Numbers) has composed the film’s original score. No soundtrack album has been released. The movie is a sequel to the 2009 horror film The Collector and is being distributed by LD Entertainment. ‘California Solo’ Soundtrack Details
The details of the soundtrack album for the indie drama California Solo have been revealed. The album features the film’s title song California Solo written by Adam Franklin and performed by actor Robert Carlyle, as well as the movie’s original score composed by T. Griffin. The soundtrack will be released digitally on November 1, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips are available after the jump. California Solo is written and directed by Marshall Levy and stars Carlyle as a Britpop ex-rocker who now works on a farm, gets caught driving drunk and faces deportation after living in Los Angeles for many years. Alexia Rasmussen, Kathleen Wilhoite, A Martinez, Michael Des Barres and Danny Masterson are co-starring in the movie, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

Among the documentaries that premiered at this year’s festival is Finding North directed by Kristi Jacobson (Toots) and Lori Silverbush. The film examines the issue of hunger in America through the lens of three people struggling with food insecurity. Both directors are also producing the movie with Julie Goldman (Buck) and Ryan Harrington (American Teen). T Bone Burnett and The Civil Wars have written the documentary’s music. The project marks Burnett’s first documentary credit as a composer. He has previously contributed music to a number of high profile films, including Crazy Heart, O Brother Where Are Thou?, Walk the Line and the upcoming The Hunger Games.
