Weekly Film Music Roundup (December 6, 2024)

Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the comedy Y2K co-written and directed by Kyle Mooney and starring Rachel Zegler, Jaeden Martell, Julian Dennison, Lachlan Watson, Daniel Zolghadri, Mason Gooding and The Kid Laroi. Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans (Ozark, Enemy, Speak No Evil, The White Tiger, The Outsider, The Staircase, The Gift, Tokyo Vice) have composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. Check out our previous news article to learn more about the movie, which premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and is being released by A24.

Also opening wide is the horror thriller Werewolves directed by Steven C. Miller and starring Frank Grillo, Katrina Law, James Michael Cummings, Ilfenesh Hadera and Lou Diamond Phillips. The Newton Brothers (X-Men ’97, The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep, Five Nights at Freddy’s, The Forever Purge, The Fall of the House of Usher) have composed the film’s original music. ‘Dead Again in Tombstone’ Soundtrack Released

Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album for the western sequel Dead Again in Tombstone. The album features the film’s original music composed by the UK-based electronic music group Hybrid (Vice, Interlude in Prague, Catacombs, Billionaire Ransom) who previously scored the 2013 original film. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. Dead Again in Tombstone is directed by Roel Reiné and stars Danny Trejo, Jake Busey, Elysia Rotaru, Dean McDermott, Elizabeth Lavender, Peter Skagen, Michelle Rios and Joe-Norman Shaw. The movie follows Guerrero as he is forced to protect a stolen relic from getting into the hands of a gang of soldiers.

‘Interlude in Prague’ Soundtrack Released

Kill City Records has released a soundtrack album for the drama Interlude in Prague. The album features the film’s original music composed by Hybrid (Catacombs, Vice, Dead in Tombstone, Billionaire Ransom), as well as arrangements of music written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The soundtrack is now to download here. Interlude in Prague is directed by John Stephenson (Animal Farm) and stars James Purefoy, Aneurin Barnard, Samantha Barks and Morfydd Clark. The movie is set in 1787 and follows the story of a few turbulent months in the short life of Mozart that influenced the creation of the opera Don Giovanni. The drama was released in the UK last month.

Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the animated feature Kubo and the Two Strings directed by Travis Knight and featuring the voices of Charlize Theron, Art Parkinson, and Ralph Fiennes, George Takei, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Brenda Vaccaro, Rooney Mara and Matthew McConaughey. The film’s original music is composed by Dario Marianelli (Atonement, The Boxtrolls, Pride and Prejudice, V for Vendetta) has composed the film’s original music. Warner Bros. Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as end titles song performed by Regina Spektor. Visit our previous article for the full album details.

Also opening wide is the action comedy War Dogs directed by Todd Phillips and starring Jonah Hill, Miles Teller, Ana de Armas and Bradley Cooper. Cliff Martinez (Drive, Contagion, Traffic, The Neon Demon, The Lincoln Lawyer) has composed the film’s original score. No word on a soundtrack album. War Dogs follows two friends in their early 20s during the Iraq War who exploit a little-known government initiative that allows small businesses to bid on U.S. Military contracts. Hybrid’s Charlotte Truman to Score ‘Interlude in Prague’

Charlotte Truman is set to compose the score for the upcoming drama Interlude in Prague. Truman who is known as a member of the Welsh band Hybrid will also serve as the music producer of the film, which will be directed by John Stephenson (Animal Farm) and star James Purefoy, Aneurin Barnard and Samantha Barks. The movie is set in 1787 and follows the story of a few turbulent months in the short life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart that influenced the creation of the opera Don Giovanni. Brian Ashby is writing the screenplay. Productive International’s Huw Penallt Jones (Chaos) and Hannah Leader (Lucky Number Slevin) are producing the project.

‘Vice’ Soundtrack Details

Metropolis Movie Music will release a soundtrack album for the sci-fi thriller Vice. The album features the film’s original music composed by the British electronic music group Hyrbid (Dead in Tombstones, Catacombs). The soundtrack will be released digitally on May 30, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips are embedded after the jump. Vice is directed by Brian A. Miller and stars Thomas Jane, Bruce Willis, Ambyr Childers, Johnathon Schaech, Bryan Greenberg, Charlotte Kirk and Tyler J. Olson. The movie is set in a city in which humans can enact their most perverse fantasies onto androids and follows an android who becomes self-aware and breaks out, only to become intent on shutting down the organization.

‘Take Down’ to Feature Music by Hybrid

The British electronic music group Hybrid is currently scoring the upcoming thriller Take Down. The film is directed by Jim Gillespie (I Know What You Did Last Summer, Eye See You) and stars Ed Westwick, Jeremy Sumpter, Phoebe Tonkin and Dominic Sherwood. The movie focuses on the wayward sons and daughters of international billionaires, who have been sent by their frustrated parents to a boot camp on a remote island, when they are taken hostage and held for a billion dollar ransom by a group of sophisticated kidnappers. Alexander Ignon (Ransom) has written the screenplay. Sarah Ryan Black (Restoration, 100 Feet) and Ed Elbert (Anna and the King, Martian Child) are producing the Pinewood Pictures production.

In addition to the nationwide expansion of Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper, three other new movies are opening across the country this week:

Opening in around 3300 theaters is the family movie Paddington written and directed by Paul King and starring Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Nicole Kidman, Jim Broadbent, Peter Capaldi and Ben Whishaw as the voice of Paddington. The film’s original music is composed by Nick Urata (Crazy, Stupid, Love, Focus). Decca Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the score, as well as songs from the film by James Brown, Steppenwolf and Lionel Richie. The U.S. version of the film also features the original song Shine by Pharrell Williams & Gwen Stefani, which can be checked out here.

Opening in roughly 3000 theaters is the comedy The Wedding Ringer directed by Jeremy Garelick and starring Kevin Hart, Josh Gad, Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, Ken Howard, Cloris Leachman, Jenifer Lewis, Mimi Rogers and Olivia Thirlby. Christopher Lennertz (Ride Along, Agent Carter, Identity Thief) has composed the film’s original score. Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film by such artists as The Black Eyed Peas, Boyz II Men, Otis Redding, Todd Rundgren, Hal Jeffrin and Rancid earlier this week. Andre Fabrizio & Jeremy Passmore (Red Dawn, San Andreas, The Prince) have written the screenplay. George Furla & Randall Emmett (2 Guns, Lone Survivor, Righteous Kill, Broken City) and Adam Goldworm (The Prince) are producing the Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films production.

‘Dead in Tombstone’ Soundtrack Announced

Back Lot Music will release a soundtrack album for the action western Dead in Tombstone. The album features the film’s original score composed by the UK-based electronic music group Hybrid comprising of Michael Truman, Chris Healings and Charlotte James. They have previously collaborated with Harry Gregson-Williams on a number of film scores, including Unstoppable, Total Recall and Prince of Persia. The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 15, 2013. Dead in Tombstone is directed by Roel Reine and stars Danny Trejo, Anthony Michael Hall, Mickey Rourke, Dina Meyer and Richard Dillane. The movie follows a leader of a gang of outlaws who gets killed by his own gang members and makes a deal with the devil to come back from the dead to seek revenge. The film is now available on VOD and will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on October 22 by Universal Pictures.
