Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the comedy Y2K co-written and directed by Kyle Mooney and starring Rachel Zegler, Jaeden Martell, Julian Dennison, Lachlan Watson, Daniel Zolghadri, Mason Gooding and The Kid Laroi. Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans (Ozark, Enemy, Speak No Evil, The White Tiger, The Outsider,  The Staircase, The Gift, Tokyo Vice) have composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. Check out our previous news article to learn more about the movie, which premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and is being released by A24.

Also opening wide is the horror thriller Werewolves directed by Steven C. Miller and starring Frank Grillo, Katrina Law, James Michael Cummings, Ilfenesh Hadera and Lou Diamond Phillips. The Newton Brothers (X-Men ’97, The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep, Five Nights at Freddy’s, The Forever Purge, The Fall of the House of Usher) have composed the film’s original music. ‘The Return’ Soundtrack Album Details

Sony Classical will release the official soundtrack album for the drama The Return. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Rachel Portman (Emma, The Cider House Rules, Chocolat, The Manchurian Candidate, Never Let Me Go, One Day). The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, December 6. Check back on this page for the streaming/download link and will be available to stream/download on all major digital music services, including Amazon. Also listen to the composer’s title track below. The Return is co-written and directed by Uberto Pasolini and stars Juliette Binoche, Ralph Fiennes, Charlie Plummer, Marwan Kenzari, Claudio Santamaria and Ángela Molina. The movie is based on Homer’s ancient classic The Odyssey and follows King Odysseus as he washes up on the shores of Ithaca 20 years after he left his kingdom and finds his beloved wife Penelope hounded by suitors vying to be king, and his son Telemachus facing death at the hands of these suitors, who see him as merely an obstacle to their pursuit of the kingdom.

Rachel Portman (The Cider House Rules, Chocolat, Emma, The Manchurian Candidate, One Life, Never Let Me Go) has recently been scoring the upcoming historical epic The Return. The film is directed by Uberto Pasolini (Nowhere Special, Pachan) and stars Ralph Fiennes, Juliette Binoche and Charlie Plummer. The movie is based on Homer’s ancient classic The Odyssey and follows King Odysseus as he washes up on the shores of Ithaca after 20 years away and finds his beloved wife Penelope hounded by her many suitors to choose a new husband, and his son Telemachus facing death at the hands of the suitors who see him as an obstacle in their relentless pursuit of Penelope.

The full details of the soundtrack album for the Hulu limited series We Were the Lucky Ones have been revealed. The album features selections of the show’s original score composed by Academy Award winner Rachel Portman (Emma, The Cider House Rules, Chocolat, The Manchurian Candidate, Never Let Me Go) and Jon Ehrlich (House, The Resident, Parenthood, Life, About a Boy, Invasion). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, May 3 by Hollywood Records and will be available to stream/download on Amazon and any other major digital music services. The label has previously released Portman’s main theme in March. We Were the Lucky Ones is developed by Erica Lipez based on Georgia Hunter’s bestselling novel of the same name and stars Joey King, Logan Lerman, Henry-Lloyd Hughes, Hadas Yaron, Amit Rahav, Michael Aloni, Sam Woolf, Moran Rosenblatt, Lior Ashkenazi, Eva Feiler and Robin Weigert.

Available to stream/download now on all major digital music services is the main theme composed by Academy Award winner Rachel Portman (Emma, Chocolat, The Cider House Rules, The Manchurian Candidate, A Dog’s Purpose, Never Let Me Go). Premiering on Tuesday, March 26, is the HBO original documentary The Truth vs. Alex Jones directed by Dan Reed and executive produced by Nancy Abraham and Lisa Heller. The film’s original music is composed by David Schweitzer (Emma, Our Great National Parks, The Afterparty, Sanditon, Trust No One: The Hunt for the Crypto King, The Reluctant Traveler). The movie, which tells  the story of how families whose children were murdered at Sandy Hook took on conspiracy giant Alex Jones in two courtroom trials, holding Jones and InfoWars to account for the myths they started spreading hours after the atrocity, premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and will premiere on HBO and will also be available to stream on Max.

Premiering on Thursday, March 28, is the Swedish Netflix original series Ronja the Robber’s Daughter (Ronja Rövardotter) written by Hans Rosenfeldt based on Astrid Lindgren’s fantasy tale and starring Kerstin Linden, Jack Bergenholtz-Henriksson, Krista Kosonen, Christopher Wagelin, Maria Nohra, Sverrir Gudnason, Pernilla August, Johan Ulveson and Vera Vitali. Johan Söderqvist (Let the Right One In, Kon-Tiki, Madame Web, Anatomy of a Scandal, Battlefield V, After the Wedding, In a Better World)  has composed the show’s original music. Portman has also contributed the main title theme to the show developed by Erica Lipez (Julia) based on Georgia Hunter’s New York Times bestselling novel of the same title and starring Joey King, Logan Lerman, Hadas Yaron, Amit Rahav, Henry-Lloyd Hughes, Sam Woolf, Moran Rosenblatt, Michael Aloni, Eva Feiler, Lior Ashkenazi and Robin Weigert. The 8-part drama tells the true story of a Jewish family who is determined to survive and reunite after being separated in World War II.

Rachel Portman’s ‘Beyond the Screen – Film Works on Piano’ Album Announced

Sony Classical will release the new record Beyond the Screen – Film Works on Piano by Rachel Portman featuring some of the composer’s most cherished film music for solo piano. The album was recorded in Berlin, with occasional accompaniment by cellist Raphaela Gromes and consists of 20 curated pieces that span Portman’s illustrious career, arranged to form an emotional and musical journey. Among the titles included are suites from the composer’s Academy Award-winning score for Douglas McGrath’s Emma, her Academy Award-nominated scores for Lasse Hallstrom’s The Cider House Rules and Chocolat, as well as her music for Mark Romanek’s Never Let Me Go, Lone Scherfig’s One Day and Saul Dibb’s The Duchess. The album will be released digitally and physically on March 3, 2023 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Rachel Portman to Score Showtime’s ‘King Shaka’

Rachel Portman (The Cider House Rules, Emma, Chocolat, The Manchurian Candidate, Never Let Me Go) has revealed in a recent interview during the Zurich Film Festival (where she received the Career Achievement Award) that she is set to score the upcoming Showtime original series King Shaka. The show is created by Olu Odebunmi & Tolu Awosika and stars Charmaine Bingwa, Nkeki Obi-Melekwe, Tony Kgoroge, Sindi Dlatu and Bahle Hadebe. The drama tells the story of the Zulu Empire founder Shaka and his unlikely rise to power, uniting multiple tribes across vast stretches of Africa in the early 19th century to transform his power into legend.
