Mitchell Leib, president of music and soundtracks at The Walt Disney Studios, will serve as the executive music producer on the upcoming biographical drama Billy and Me. The film is directed by composer/editor John Ottman (Bohemian Rhaposdy, X2, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Usual Suspects, Superman Returns, Fantastic Four) who previously made his feature directorial debut on 2000’s Urban Legends: Final Cut and tells the origin story of Billy Joel before before Piano Man, the 1973 song and album that lofted him to stardom. The movie is told through the eyes of Joel’s first manager, Irwin Mazur, who discovered the singer in 1966, signed him four years later and oversaw his career up to his breakthrough deal with Columbia Records in 1972.

The John Ottman Collection – Volume 1 Album Announced
Dragon’s Domain Records has announced a new soundtrack album featuring three scores composed by John Ottman (X2, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Superman Returns, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Usual Suspects, Fantastic Four). The album features the composer’s remastered and expanded score from the 1997 crime thriller Incognito directed by John Badham and starring Jason Patric & Irene Jacob, including previously unreleased music. Also included is the world premiere release of Ottman’s music from the 2004 short Lonely Place directed by Kevin Ackerman and starring Tess Harper, Kurtwood Smith &Tomas Arana, as well as his score from the 2002 television movie Brother’s Keeper directed by Badham and starring Jeanne Tripplehorn, Corin Nemec, Leland Orser & Evan Parke. The limited edition 2-CD set is now available to order on the label’s official website, where you can also learn more about the release and order the soundtrack.
John Ottman to Score Animated Series ‘The Gang’s All Here’
John Ottman is attached to compose the music for the upcoming animated series The Gang’s All Here. The show developed by Byron Burton and voice actor Rob Paulsen centers on an animal cast of actors as they star in their own films and navigate the pitfalls of the entertainment industry. Voice actors Kevin Conroy, Cal Dodd and Andrea Romano are also involved in the project. Burton has previously served as an assistant to Ottman and wrote the lyrics to the song Rest Young Child (performed by Michael Fassbender’s Magneto) from X-Men: Apocalypse.

Premiering in the U.S. tonight is the British series The Collection created Oliver Goldstick and starring Richard Coyle, Tom Riley, Frances de la Tour, Mamie Gummer, Max Deacon, Irène Jacob, Michael Kitchen and James Cosmo. The show’s original music is composed by Dominik Scherrer (The Missing, Ripper Street, Primeval). The drama premiered last year in the UK on Amazon and is making its domestic debut tonight on PBS. Premiering on Wednesday, October 11, is the new CW drama Dynasty created by Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage & Sallie Patrick based on the classic 80s show of the same title and starring Nathalie Kelley, Elizabeth Gillies, Alan Dale, Sam Adegoke, Rob Riley and Grant Show. Paul-Leonard Morgan (Limitless, Walking with Dinosaurs 3D, Dredd, The Numbers Station) is composing the show’s original music. Opening in most theaters is the animated feature The Angry Birds Movie directed by Fergal Reilly & Clay Kaytis and starring Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Bill Hader, Peter Dinklage, Kate McKinnon and Keegan-Michael Key. The film’s original music is composed by Heitor Pereira (Despicable Me, Minions, The Smurfs). Atlantic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film, as well as a separate soundtrack featuring Pereira’s score. Lakeshore Records will release a score album for Shane Black’s action comedy The Nice Guys. The album features the film’s original music composed by John Ottman (X2, X-Men: Days of Future Past & Apocalypse, The Usual Suspects, The Fantastic Four, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) and David Buckley (Jason Bourne, The Good Wife, The Forbidden Kingdom). The Nice Guys starring Russell Crowe, Ryan Gosling, Angourie Rice, Matt Bomer, Margaret Qualley, Keith David and Kim Basinger is set in 1970s Los Angeles and follows a down-on-his-luck private eye and a hired leg-breaker who must work together to solve the case of a missing girl and the seemingly unrelated death of a porn star.

The album features the original score from the new cut of last year’s hit film composed by John Ottman (The Usual Suspects, X2, Valkyrie, Superman Returns, The Fantastic Four), including new music which the composer recorded specifically for the new edition. The soundtrack will be released on July 10, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The label has previously released the original soundtrack for the film last year.
