John Ottman and David Buckley are set to score the upcoming detective thriller The Nice Guys. The film is directed by Shane Black (Iron Man 3, screenwriter of Lethal Weapon) and stars Russell Crowe, Ryan Gosling, Matt Bomer, Kim Basinger, Angourie Rice, Beau Knapp, Keith David and Margaret Qualley. The movie is set in 1970s Los Angeles and follows a down-on-his-luck private eye and a hired leg-breaker who must work together to solve the case of a missing girl and the seemingly unrelated death of a porn star. Black also co-wrote the script with Anthony Bagarozzi. Joel Silver (The Matrix, Die Hard, V for Vendetta, Sherlock Holmes) is producing the project through his Silver Pictures company.

Weekly TV Music Roundup (March 8, 2015)
Premiering tomorrow, March 9, is the A&E original series The Returned created by Carlton Cuse & Raelle Tucker based on the French series Les Revenants and starring Mark Pellegrino, Tandi Wright, India Ennenga, Sophie Lowe, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jeremy Sisto, Kevin Alejandro, Agnes Bruckner and Sandrine Holt. The show’s original music is composed by Jeff Russo (Fargo, CSI: Cyber, Power) and cellist Zoe Keating. The Returned is set in a small town that is turned upside down when several local people who have been long presumed dead suddenly reappear. The drama will air every Monday night on A&E. John Ottman to Return for ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’
John Ottman has officially signed on to score X-Men: Apocalypse. The film is directed by Bryan Singer and star Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassebender, Nicholas Hoult, Evan Peters and Rose Byrne who return in their roles from X-Men: First Class and Days of Future Past. They are joined by new cast members Sophie Turner who will play Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, as well as Oscar Isaacs and Ben Hardy. Simon Kinberg who scripted the previous film in the franchise is writing the screenplay for the sequel, which takes place in the 1980s. Singer and Kinberg are also producing the project with Lauren Shuler Donner and Hutch Parker. Ottman will also once again serve as the film’s editor.
John Ottman, Michael Price, Peter Golub & Bruce Broughton to Attend Transatlantyk Festival Poznań
Composers John Ottman (The Usual Suspects, X-Men: Days of Future Past), Michael Price (Sherlock, Horrid Henry: The Movie), Peter Golub (Frozen Rivers, The Great Debaters) and Bruce Broughton (Silverado, Young Sherlock Holmes, Tombstone) will be attending the 4th Annual Transatlantyk Festival Poznań. The international film and music festival will begin on August 8, 2014 in Poznan, Poland and will showcase film and music from all around the world, presenting both legendary and new artists’ work. The participating composers will sit on the jury of the international composition competition held at the Festival, and Broughton will lead master classes and meetings with the authors moderated by film music journalist Tim Burden.
2nd Annual Superhero Music Panel at Comic-Con Announced
The line-up of the 2nd Annual Superhero Music Panel has been announced. Six leading Hollywood composers will discuss the process of creating the musical voice behind the superhero, explain the challenges when bringing a comic book character or story to life and writing music to reflect the story line. The panelists will also show film clips of their work. Participating composers include Brian Tyler who scored Marvel’s two features in 2013, Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World and is set to score the biggest movie of his career to date, Avengers: Age of Ultron, John Ottman who most recently composed the music and edited X-Men: Days of Future Past and has previously worked on X2 and the two The Fantastic Four features, as well as Tyler Bates who has Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy coming up and whose previous credits include 300 and Watchmen.

‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Soundtrack Details
The details of the soundtrack album for the superhero sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past have been revealed. The album features the film’s original score composed by John Ottman (The Usual Suspects, Superman Returns, The Fantastic Four) who previously scored X2. Also included is Roberta Flack’s song The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face and Jim Groce’s Time in a Bottle. The soundtrack will be released digitally on May 19, 2014 and physically on June 3.The CD version is now available for pre-order on Amazon. X-Men: Days of Future Past is directed by Bryan Singer and stars Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Peter Dinklage, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. The movie features the characters from the original X-Men film trilogy who join forces with their younger selves from the past from X-Men: First Class in order to change a major historical event. Expected to top the weekend box office is the thriller Non-Stop directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and starring Liam Neeson, Julianne Moore, Anson Mount, Michellle Dockery, Scott McNairy, Lupita Nyong’o and Corey Stoll. The film’s original music is composed by John Ottman (X2, The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie) who previously scored the director’s features Unknown, Orphan and House of Wax. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally earlier this week and a CD version will be coming out on March 4. Also opening wide is the biblical drama Son of God produced by Mark Burnett & Roma Downey and starring Diogo Morgado, Greg Hicks, Adrian Schiller, Darwin Shaw, Sebastian Knapp, Joe Wredden, Simon Kunz and Paul Marc Davis. Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe who also scored the mini-series The Bible, which the film is based on, have composed the movie’s original music. Republic Records has released a soundtrack featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by Cee Lo Green, OneRepublic, Steven Stern & George Krikes and Hillsong United. ‘Non-Stop’ Soundtrack Details
Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the thriller Non-Stop. The album features the film’s original score composed by John Ottman (The Usual Suspects, X2, The Fantastic Four) who previously collaborated with the movie’s director Jaume Collet-Serra on Unknown, Orphan and House of Wax. The soundtrack will be released digitally on February 25, 2014 and physically on March 4 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Non-Stop is produced by Joel Silver and stars Liam Neeson, Julianne Moore, Anson Mount, Michellle Dockery and Corey Stoll. The movie is set during a transatlantic flight from New York City to London and follows a U.S. Air Marshal who receives a series of text messages demanding that he instruct the government to transfer $150 million into an off-shore account. Until he secures the money, a passenger on his flight will be killed every 20 minutes. The thriller will be released nationwide on February 28 by Universal Pictures.
‘Lethal Weapon’ Series Box Set and Expanded ‘Superman Returns’ Soundtrack Announced
La-La Land Records has announced a 8-CD box set for the action comedy series Lethal Weapon directed by Richard Donner and starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. The albums feature the original scores from all four movies composed by Michael Kamen (Die Hard, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves), Eric Clapton and David Sanborn. The scores for the first three installments have been expanded beyond their original soundtrack albums and the score for Lethal Weapon 4 makes its world premiere on the set. The albums also feature alternate cues, as well as cues that were unused in the final film. Also included are the songs from the films by artists including Sting, Elton John, George Harrison and The Beach Boys.
