Varèse Sarabande has announced a reissue of the soundtrack album for the 1986 thriller Blue Velvet written and directed by David Lynch and starring Kyle MacLachlan, Isabella Rossellini, Dennis Hopper and Laura Dern. The album, which is being released to celebrate the movie’s 40th Anniversary, features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Angelo Badalamenti (Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive, The Straight Story, The Beach, Wild at Heart, The City of Lost Children), as well as songs performed by Bobby Vinton, Roy Orbison, Bill Doggett, Ketty Lester & Julee Cruise. The soundtrack will be released on vinyl in a rainbow foil jacket and on CD on September 4 and is now available for pre-order in both formats on Amazon. A variety of limited-edition pressings: Yellow vinyl (exclusively at Amoeba Records), Blue (Barnes & Noble), Blue Sky Blend (Urban Outfitters), Sandy Pink (Books-A-Million), Silver & Blue Velvet (Brooklyn Vegan) and Silver will also be available at participating indie retailers. The label will also release a digital version of the 48-track deluxe edition, which was first released on CD and vinyl back in 2021.

‘The Straight Story’ Soundtrack CD Reissue & Premiere Digital Release Announced
Intrada Records has announced a reissue of the soundtrack album for David Lynch’s 1999 drama The Straight Story starring Richard Farnsworth, Sissy Spacek and Harry Dean Stanton. The album features the film’s original music composed by Angelo Badalamenti (Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, The Beach, Wild at Heart, The City of Lost Children, A Very Long Engagement). The CD, which includes the same content as the (now out of print) original 1999 soundtrack album (released by Windham Hill Records) with new liner notes and cover art, is now available to order on the label’s official website, where you can also check out audio samples and find out more about the release. The soundtrack will also be released digitally for the first time (check back on this page for the streaming/download link).
‘Wonderwell’ Soundtrack Album Details
MovieScore Media will release a soundtrack album for the coming-of-age fantasy drama Wonderwell. The album features the film’s original score composed and conducted by William Ross (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, The Tale of Despereaux, My Dog Skip, Tin Cup, Ladder 49, Tuck Everlasting) and performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. Late composer Angelo Badalamenti (Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet, The Straight Story) has contributed Violet’s Theme to the score. The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, June 30 and will be available to stream/download on all major digital music services, including Amazon. Wonderwell is directed by Vlad Marsavin and stars Carrie Fisher, Rita Ora, Nell Tiger Free, Sebastian Croft and Kiera Milward.
Angelo Badalamenti (1937-2022)
Angelo Badalamenti has passed away yesterday at age 85 at his home in New Jersey. The composer was best known for his scores for the films of director David Lynch, including Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart, The Straight Story & Mulholland Drive, as well as the filmmaker’s TV series Twin Peaks, for which he received three Emmy Award nominations and a Grammy Award. His other scoring credits include Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s The City of Lost Children & A Very Long Engagement, Danny Boyle’s The Beach, Walter Salles’ Dark Water and Neil LaBute’s The Wicker Man.

‘Blue Velvet’ Deluxe Edition Soundtrack Announced
Varese Sarabande has announced the label’s titles for Record Store Day Black Friday 2021, including a new soundtrack album for the 1986 thriller Blue Velvet written and directed by David Lynch and starring Kyle MacLachlan, Isabella Rossellini, Dennis Hopper and Laura Dern. The double LP features the content of the original soundtrack album (including the film’s original score composed and conducted by Angelo Badalamenti and songs performed by Bobby Vinton, Bill Doggett, Roy Orbison, Ketty Lester & Julee Cruise) on the first disc and previously unreleased alternate versions, improvisations and experimentations by Badalamenti (released under the title of Lumberton Firewood) on the second disc. Blue Velvet: Deluxe Edition will be released on November 26 and is now available at participating Record Store Day retailers. A CD version is available to order here.

Vertical Entertainment announced today that Debbie Harry (of Blondie) has recorded the original song Mysteries of Life for the upcoming fantasy comedy Here After. Angelo Badalamenti (Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, Twin Peaks) has written the main theme and Joseph LoDuca (The Evil Dead, Xena: Warrior Princess, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Spartacus: Blood and Sand) has composed the original score for the movie written and directed by Harry Greenberger and starring Christina Ricci, Nora Arnezeder, Jackie Cruz, Michael Rispoli and Andy Karl. The film revolves around a struggling actor who dies right after a bad breakup and finds himself in singles Purgatory where he must find his soul mate in order to cross over to the other side.

The Twin Peaks (Limited Event Series Soundtrack) album features the show’s original score composed by Angelo Badalamenti (Blue Velvet, The Straight Story, Mulholland Drive), as well as tracks by Chromatics, Johnny Jewel and Muddy Magnolias. The Twin Peaks (Music from the Limited Event Series) album features the songs from the new season by artists including The Cactus Blossoms, Sharon Van Etten, Nine Inch Nails, Eddie Vedder, ZZ Top & more.
