John Ottman has officially signed on to score the upcoming superhero film sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past. The film reunites the composer with Bryan Singer who is directing his third entry in the franchise. The movie acts as a sequel to both 2011’s X-Men: First Class (scored by Henry Jackman) and 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand (scored by John Powell) and stars Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore and Daniel Cudmore from the original trilogy, as well as James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult from the last part in the series. They are joined by new cast members Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Booboo Stewart and Fan Bingbing, Singer is also writing the story and Simon Kinberg, Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman are penning the script. The director is also producing the project with Vaughn, Kinberg and Richard & Lauren Shuler Donner.

Four new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the fantasy adventure Jack the Giant Slayer directed by Bryan Singer and starring Nicholas Hoult, Eleanor Tomlinson, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, Bill Nighy and Ewan McGregor. The film’s music is composed by John Ottman (X2, The Usual Suspects, The Fantastic Four) who also edited the movie and served as an associate producer. Also opening wide is the comedy 21 & Over written and directed by Jon Lucas & Scott Moore and starring Miles Teller, Justin Chon, Skylar Astin and Sarah Wright. Relativity Music Group has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film by artists including Langhorne Slim & The Law, Dropkick Myrphys, 4th Pyramid, Spaceman, T. Mills, The Blue Van, Big Freedia, Benny Benassi, Ben Gidsjoy, Iman Shumpert, The Naked and Famous and The Gaslight Anthem. The details of the soundtrack album for Bryan Singer’s fantasy adventure Jack the Giant Slayer have been revealed. The album features the film’s music composed by John Ottman (X2, Superman Returns, The Usual Suspects, The Fantastic Four) who is also the film’s editor and associate producer. The soundtrack will be released digitally on February 26, 2013 by WaterTower Music and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out after the jump. WaterTower Music will release the official soundtrack album for Bryan Singer’s upcoming fantasy adventure Jack the Giant Slayer. The album features the film’s original score composed by John Ottman who has previously worked with the director on such films as The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie and the second X-Men movie. In addition to writing the orchestral score, Ottman also is also the film’s editor and associate producer. The soundtrack is expected to be released on February 26, 2013. The full album details will be posted on this site within the next couple of weeks. Jack the Giant Slayer starring Nicholas Hoult, Eleanor Tomlinson, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, Bill Nighy and Ewan McGregor tells the story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants.
New Soundtrack Editions for ‘X2’ and ‘The Phantom’ Announced
La-La Land Records has announced its 2012 Comic-Con titles. The four world premiere limited edition soundtrack CDs include Bryan Singer’s X-Men sequel X2 (X-Men United). The 2 CD-set features the expanded score from the film composed by John Ottman, including over 50 minutes of previously unreleased music. Also coming out is the expanded score for the 1996 film adaptation of The Phantom starring Billy Zane, Kristy Swanson, Treat Williams and Catherine Zeta-Jones. The album, which is limited to 3000 copies, features the film’s score composed and conducted by David Newman, including almost 30 minutes of never-before released music.
‘The Resident’ Soundtrack Announced
Cutting Edge Group’s Pale Blue label will be releasing the soundtrack for the horror thriller The Resident. The album includes the original score from the film composed by John Ottman. The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 16, 2011 and will be available to download on Amazon. Audio clips from all 17 score tracks can be checked out after the jump. The Resident is directed by Antti Jokinen and stars Hilary Swank, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Christopher Lee. The movie about a young doctor who suspects she may not be alone in her new Brooklyn loft and learns that her landlord has formed a frightening obsession with her is now available on Blu-Ray and DVD.
John Ottman to Score and Edit ‘Jack the Giant Killer’
John Ottman is set to reunite with director Bryan Singer on the upcoming fantasy adventure Jack the Giant Killer. The film is a twist on the Jack and the Beanstalk story and centers on the kidnapping of a princess that threatens the long-standing peace between men and giants, and a young farmer who’s given an opportunity to lead a dangerous expedition to the giant kingdom to rescue her. The movie stars Nicholas Hoult, Eleanor Tomlinson, Ian McShane, Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Bill Nighy and John Kassir. Writers involved in the project are Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) and Darren Lemke (Shrek Forever After). As on previous collaborations between Ottman and Singer (The Usual Suspects, Apt Pupil, Superman Returns, Valkyrie), Ottman will also be editing the film in addition to writing the music.

Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
The teen sci-fi action movie I Am Number Four directed by D.J. Caruso and starring Alex Pettyfer, Dianne Agron, Timothy Olyphant and Teresa Palmer features a score by Trevor Rabin, as well as many songs from such artists as Beck, Kings of Leons and The Black Keys. No soundtrack album has been announced for the Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg-produced movie. There is about 45 minutes of Rabin’s score in the film, which would make a soundtrack release a definite possibility. Check back on this site if an announcement will be made.
Also opening is the mystery thriller Unknown directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and starring Liam Neeson, January Jones, Diane Kruger, Frank Langella and Aidan Quinn. The music for the Joel Silver-produced movie is written by John Ottman and Alexander Rudd. ‘Unknown’ Soundtrack details
Varese Sarabande Records will release a soundtrack album for the upcoming thriller Unknown directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and starring Liam Neeson, January Jones, Diane Kruger, Frank Langella and Aidan Quinn. The film’s music is written by John Ottman and newcomer Alexander Rudd. The soundtrack includes 16 tracks of original score and will be released on March 8, 2011. John Ottman scores ‘Unknown’
Film Music Reporter has learned that John Ottman is currently finishing up work on the upcoming mystery thriller Unknown (previously entitled Unknown White Male). In the movie, a man awakens from a coma, only to discover that someone has taken on his identity and that no one believes him. With the help of a young woman, he sets out to prove who he is. The movie stars Liam Neeson, January Jones, Diane Kruger, Frank Langella and Aidan Quinn. The project marks Ottman’s third collaboration with director Jaume Collet-Serra after House of Wax and last year’s Orphan. Unknown is produced by Joel Silver, who has worked with Ottman on numerous projects such as Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Gothika and most recently on this year’s The Losers.
