WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album for The Wizard of Oz at Sphere featuring the original film score that was specifically re-recorded for the experience currently playing at Sphere in Las Vegas. The music was performed and re-recorded by a more than 80-piece orchestra on the historic scoring stage where it was initially recorded in 1939.The creative team for the project includes Academy Award-nominated composer David Newman (Anastasia, The Flintstones, War of the Roses, Serenity), Grammy Award-nominated music producer/sound designer Paul Freeman, Grammy Award-winning music supervisor Julianne Jordan and Academy Award-winning sound engineer Shawn Murphy. In addition to the newly recorded score, the album also includes a previously unreleased a cappella version of Judy Garland singing Over the Rainbow. The soundtrack is now available to stream/download on Amazon and any other major digital music services. Also listen to several tracks below.

Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the psychological thriller Joker: Folie à Deux directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga, Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson and Zazie Beetz. The film’s original score is composed by Hildur Guðnadóttir (Joker, Chernobyl, A Haunting in Venice, Women Talking, Tar, Sicario: Day of the Soldado). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last Friday (click here for the full album details) and Interscope Records has released a separate soundtrack featuring the songs from the Warner Bros. Pictures release performed by Phoenix & Gaga, as well as a track by Nick Cave today (click here for more more information).
Also opening wide is the drama White Bird directed by Marc Forster and starring Ariella Glaser, Orlando Schwerdt, Helen Mirren, Gillian Anderson and Bryce Gheisar. Thomas Newman (American Beauty, Finding Nemo, The Shawshank Redemption, Skyfall, Road to Perdition, The Horse Whisperer) has composed the film’s original music. ‘Serenity’ Deluxe Edition Soundtrack Album Announced
Varese Sarabande has announced a new soundtrack album for the 2005 space western Serenity written and directed by Joss Whedon and starring Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, Adam Baldwin, Morena Baccarin, Summer Glau, Jewel Staite, Gina Torres, Sean Maher and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The album features the film’s expanded original score composed by Academy Award nominee David Newman (Ice Age, Galaxy Quest, Anastasia, The Flintstones, The Nutty Professor, The War of the Roses), including around 40 minutes of previously unreleased music. The 2-CD set is now available to order on the label’s official website, where you can also check out audio samples and find out more about the release. David Newman to Score Stephen Cookson’s ‘Arthur’s Whisky’
David Newman (Ice Age, Anastasia, Serenity, Galaxy Quest, The Flintstones, The Nutty Professor, The War of the Roses) has been hired to score the upcoming British comedy Arthur’s Whisky. The film is directed by Stephen Cookson (Brighton) and stars Diane Keaton, Patricia Hodge, Lulu, David Harewood OBE, Boy George, Bill Paterson, Hayley Mills, Adil Ray, Esme Lonsdale, Lawrence Chaney, Genevieve Gaunt and Hannah Howland. The movie follows a woman who discovers that her deceased husband had invented an anti-aging elixir, which makes the drinker look young again and shares it with her two friends.

Gustavo Dudamel conducted the New York and Los Angeles Philharmonic. Hollywood Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs and score from the movie last week. First Track from ‘West Side Story’ Soundtrack Released
Hollywood Records has released the first track from the soundtrack for Steven Spielberg’s new film adaptation of West Side Story. Available to stream/download now on all major digital music platforms is Balcony Scene (Tonight) performed by cast members Rachel Zegler & Ansel Elgort. The song originally written by Leonard Bernstein (music) and Stephen Sondheim (lyrics) is produced by David Newman (who also arranged the track), Matt Sullivan and Jeanine Tesori. Soundtrack Album for Steven Spielberg’s ‘West Side Story’ Announced
Hollywood Records has announced the official soundtrack album Steven Spielberg’s new film adaptation of West Side Story. The album features the songs from the movie originally written for the stage musical by Leonard Bernstein and with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The record is produced by David Newman who arranged and adapted Bernstein’s original score for the film, Jeanine Tesori who supervised the cast on vocals and music supervisor Matt Sullivan who serves as executive music producer. Gustavo Dudamel conducted the New York Philharmonic during the first recording sessions in 2019, with additional recording by the Los Angeles Philharmonic done the following year. The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, December 3 (in two version, including a Dolby Atmos Music edition) and physically next Friday, December 10. A vinyl edition is set to come out in early 2022.

Premiering tonight is the Starz original series Power Book II: Ghost created by Courtney A. Kemp and starring Michael Rainey Jr., Naturi Naughton, Mary J. Blige, Quincy Tyler Bernstine, Daniel Bellomy, Paige Hurd,” Cliff “Method Man” Smith, Shane Johnson, Gianni Paolo and Melanie Liburd. The show’s original music is composed by Jeff Russo (Fargo, Star Trek: Discovery & Picard, The Night Of, Legion, The Umbrella Academy) who previously scored all episodes of the original Power series. Premiering tomorrow, September 7 is DreamWorks Animation’s new TV series Madagascar: A Little Wild executive produced by Johanna Stein & Dana Starfield and starring Tucker Chandler, Amir O’Neil, Shaylin Becton, Luke Lowe, Jasmine Gatewood and Eric Petersen. Frederik Wiedmann (The Dragon Prince, The Green Lantern: The Animated Series, Hangman) who has previously scored DreamWorks Animation TV’s All Hail King Julien is composing the show’s original music. The series, which follows young versions of Alex, Marty, Gloria & Melman from the Madagascar franchise, as they grow up in New York City, will be available to stream on Hulu and Peacock.
‘Pets United’ Soundtrack Released
Milan Records has released a soundtrack album for the animated feature Pets United. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee David Newman (Anastasia, Ice Age, Serenity, The Flintstones, Galaxy Quest, The Nutty Professor, The War of the Roses). The soundtrack is now available to stream/download on Amazon and other digital music stores. Pets United is written and directed by Reinhard Klooss (who previously collaborated with Newman on his last features Animals United and Tarzan) and features the voices of Natalie Dormer, Eddie Marsan and Stephen Mangan. The Timeless Films production follows a street-smart dog and a pampered cat join forces to lead a pack of unlikely heroes when their city is seized by its evil mayor – and his robot army.
Hollywood Bowl 2020 Season Schedule Announced
The Hollywood Bowl has announced this summer’s season schedule, which includes a number of film music concerts. On June 27, the Bowl will host a live to projection concert for Nicholas Hooper‘s score for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Justin Freer will conduct the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.
