Hollywood Records has released the first track from the soundtrack for Steven Spielberg’s new film adaptation of West Side Story. Available to stream/download now on all major digital music platforms is Balcony Scene (Tonight) performed by cast members Rachel Zegler & Ansel Elgort. The song originally written by Leonard Bernstein (music) and Stephen Sondheim (lyrics) is produced by David Newman (who also arranged the track), Matt Sullivan and Jeanine Tesori. Soundtrack Album for Steven Spielberg’s ‘West Side Story’ Announced
Hollywood Records has announced the official soundtrack album Steven Spielberg’s new film adaptation of West Side Story. The album features the songs from the movie originally written for the stage musical by Leonard Bernstein and with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The record is produced by David Newman who arranged and adapted Bernstein’s original score for the film, Jeanine Tesori who supervised the cast on vocals and music supervisor Matt Sullivan who serves as executive music producer. Gustavo Dudamel conducted the New York Philharmonic during the first recording sessions in 2019, with additional recording by the Los Angeles Philharmonic done the following year. The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, December 3 (in two version, including a Dolby Atmos Music edition) and physically next Friday, December 10. ‘The Seven-Per-Cent Solution’ Soundtrack Album Announced
Quartet Records has announced the world premiere soundtrack release for the 1976 mystery drama The Seven-Per-Cent Solution directed by Herbert Ross, written by Nicholas Meyer and starring Nicol Williamson, Robert Duvall, Alan Arkin and Laurence Olivier. The album features the film’s original score composed and conducted by John Addison (A Bridge Too Far, Tom Jones, Sleuth, Swashbuckler), as well as alternates and additional music. The soundtrack also features the premiere release of The Madame’s Song written by Stephen Sondheim specifically for the film.To order the 2-CD set, which is limited to 2,000 copies, visit the label’s official website, where you can also check out the full track list and listen to audio samples.
Instrumental Versions of ‘Into the Woods’ Songs Released
Walt Disney Records has released a new soundtrack album for the film adaptation of the stage musical Into the Woods. The album features the instrumental versions of the songs from the film composed by Stephen Sondheim. The soundtrack is now available digitally on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio clips. The label has previously released the official soundtrack album in two different editions. Into the Woods is directed by Rob Marshall and stars Emily Blunt, James Corden, Anna Kendrick, Meryl Streep, Chris Pine, Tracey Ullman, Christine Baranski and Johnny Depp. The movie follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel. The musical is now playing in theaters nationwide.

Opening in most theaters is the drama Unbroken directed by Angelina Jolie and starring Jack O’Connell, Domhnall Gleeson, Miyavi, Garrett Hedlund and Finn Wittrock. The film’s original music is composed by Alexandre Desplat (The King’s Speech, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The Queen, The Grand Budapest Hotel). Parlophone Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as the original song Miracles performed by Coldplay. Stephen Sondheim to Write New Song for ‘Into the Woods’ Film Adaptation
Walt Disney Pictures has announced today that composer Stephen Sondheim is composing a new original song for the upcoming film adaptation of the musical Into the Woods. The film is directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) and stars Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, James Corden, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, Johnny Depp, Lilla Crawford, Daniel Huttlestone, Tracey Ullman, Christine Baranski, MacKenzie Mauzy, Billy Magnussen, Tammy Blanchard and Lucy Punch. The movie based on the Tony-winning original musical by James Lapine and Sondheim is a modern twist on the Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. Marshall is producing the project with John DeLuca (Nine), as well as Marc Platt (Drive, Legally Blonde, Wanted) and Callum McDougall.
