Varese Sarabande has announced a new soundtrack album for the 2005 space western Serenity written and directed by Joss Whedon and starring Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, Adam Baldwin, Morena Baccarin, Summer Glau, Jewel Staite, Gina Torres, Sean Maher and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The album features the film’s expanded original score composed by Academy Award nominee David Newman (Ice Age, Galaxy Quest, Anastasia, The Flintstones, The Nutty Professor, The War of the Roses), including around 40 minutes of previously unreleased music. The 2-CD set is now available to order on the label’s official website, where you can also check out audio samples and find out more about the release. Mark Isham Scoring HBO’s ‘The Nevers’
Mark Isham (Crash, Once Upon a Time, A River Runs Through It, Miracle, Warrior, The Accountant) is the composer of the new HBO original series The Nevers. The show is created by Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Marvel’s The Avengers) and stars Laura Donnelly, Ann Skelly, Olivia Williams, James Norton, Tom Riley, Rochelle Neil, Eleanor Tomlinson, Amy Manson, Pip Torrens, Denis O’Hare, Zackary Momoh, Elizabeth Berrington, Kiran Sonia Sawar, Anna Devlin, Viola Prettejohn, Ella Smith, Nick Frost and Ben Chaplin. The sci-fi drama is set in the late 19th Century, when Victorian London is rocked to its foundations by a supernatural event which gives certain people – mostly women – abnormal abilities, from the wondrous to the disturbing.
Details for ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Soundtrack Collection Announced
La-La Land Records has announced the full details of the new soundtrack release for the cult TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer created by Joss Whedon and starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alyson Hannigan, Nicholas Brendon and Anthony Stewart Head. The 4-CD set features selections from the show’s original music by Christophe Beck (Frozen, Ant-Man, Edge of Tomorrow) who received an Emmy Award for his score from the second season, Thomas Wander (2012, Independence Day Resurgence), Robert Duncan (Castle, Timeless, S.W.A.T.), Shawn Clement and Sean Murray. Also included is the original score from the 1992 Buffy the Vampire Slayer feature film starring Kristy Swanson composed by Academy Award nominee Carter Burwell (Carol, Fargo, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri).
Danny Elfman to Score ‘Justice League’
Danny Elfman has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming superhero movie Justice League. Junkie XL aka Tom Holkenborg who co-scored Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice for the DC movie universe was originally scoring the film before director Zack Snyder left the project. Joss Whedon is overseeing additional photography is beginning this week in London. Elfman has previously collaborated with Whedon on Avengers: Age of Ultron. Justice League starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher and Jason Momoa will be released in theaters nationwide on November 17 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
Danny Elfman to Compose Additional Music for ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’
The latest poster for Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Age of Ultron reveals that Danny Elfman is composing additional music for the film written and directed by Joss Whedon and starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johannson, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Cobie Smulders, James Spader, Hayley Atwell, Stellan Skarsgard and Samuel L. Jackson. As previously reported, Brian Tyler is the principal composer on the project. The movie follows Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye as they battle to save the planet from destruction at the hands of the villainous Ultron. Kevin Feige is producing the project.
‘In Your Eyes’ Soundtrack Details
Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the indie sci-fi romance In Your Eyes. The album features the original song Crumblin’ written by the film’s screenwriter Joss Whedon and performed by Noah Maffit & Jessica Freedman. Also included are songs by Santigold, Iron & Wine, Opus Orange and Twinbed, as well as a track from the film’s score composed by Tony Morales. Brian Tyler to Score ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’
Brian Tyler has officially signed on to score Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Age of Ultron. The film is written and directed by Joss Whedon and reunites the case of the original 2012 film, including Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders and Don Cheadle. James Spader will be portraying Ultron, the main villain in the film, while Elizabeth Olsen has been cast as the Scarlet Witch, Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver, Paul Bettany as the Vision and Thomas Kretschmann as Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker. Kevin Feige is producing the project.
Bear McCreary to Score Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’
Bear McCreary has been tapped to score Marvel’s highly anticipated TV series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. The show from executive producers Joss Whedon (The Avengers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen (Dollhouse, Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog) marks Marvel’s first television series. Jeffrey Bell (Angel, Alias) and Jeph Loeb (Smallville, Lost) also serve as executive producers of the ABC Studios and Marvel Television production. The show stars Clark Gregg who reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films and follows him as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Brett Dalton, Ming-Na Wen, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge and Chloe Bennett are co-starring. Whedon also directed the pilot episode. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is set to premiere this fall and will air every Tuesday night on ABC.

Two new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the horror thriller The Purge directed by James DeMonaco, produced by Michael Bay and Jason Blum and starring Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey. The film’s original score is composed by Nathan Whitehead. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. Also opening wide is the comedy The Internship directed by Shawn Levy and starring Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson, Rose Byrne and Max Minghella. Christophe Beck (The Hangover, The Muppets) who has previously collaborated with Levy on such films as Cheaper by the Dozen, The Pink Panther and Date Night has composed the film’s original score. No soundtrack album has been announced at this point. The comedy follows two salesmen whose careers have been torpedoed by the digital world and who talk their way into a coveted internship at Google. ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ Soundtrack Details
Bellwether Records will release the official soundtrack album for the new film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. The album features the film’s original score composed by Joss Whedon who has also written, directed and produced the movie. Film composer Deborah Lurie (Dear John, 9, An Unfinished Life) served as the score’s producer. The soundtrack will be released digitally on June 6, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The movie premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and has been picked up by Lionsgate/Roadside Attractions for domestic distribution.
