Composer Carter Burwell (Carol, Fargo, True Grit, Twilight, The Blind Side, Being John Malkovich, Burn After Reading, Anomalisa, Three Kings) is reteaming with director Martin McDonagh on the upcoming comedy drama Wild Horse Nine. The film is written and directed by McDonagh and stars John Malkovich, Sam Rockwell, Steve Buscemi, Mariana di Girolamo, Tom Waits, Ailín Salas and Parker Posey. The movie takes place shortly before the 1973 Chilean coup and follows two CIA agents who are dispatched from Santiago to Easter island, where a newfound bond with a pair of rebellious students threatens to send everyone’s trip to this remote paradise sideways.

‘The Celluloid Closet’ World Premiere Soundtrack Release Announced
Quartet Records has announced the world premiere soundtrack release for the 1995 documentary The Celluloid Closet directed by Rob Epstein & Jeffrey Friedman about Hollywood’s depiction of gays and lesbians on the silver screen from the silent era of the 1920’s to the present day. The album features the film’s original score composed by Academy Award nominee Carter Burwell (Carol, The Banshees of Inisherin, Fargo, True Grit, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, The Blind Side, Twilight,Anomalisa). Also included is k.d. lang’s cover of Secret Love, as well as songs performed by Marilyn Mornoe, Doris Day, Marlene Dietrich, Roberta Flack, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas and Jane Russell. The album features the film’s original score composed by Academy Award nominee Carter Burwell (Carol, The Banshees of Inisherin, Fargo, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, True Grit, The Blind Side, Twilight, Anomalisa). Also included are the movie’s original songs written by Jack Antonoff & Coen and performed by lead actress Margaret Qualley (as Lace Manhattan) (two of which have already been released as a digital single last month), as well as Brittany Howard’s cover of the Animals’ We Gotta Get Out of this Place and Qualley’s, Aubrey Plaza’s & Talia Ryder’s rendition of Carl Perkins’ Honey Don’t. The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, August 22 by Shadow of the City and will be available to stream/download on Amazon and any other major digital music services. Carter Burwell Elected to Academy Board of Governors
Composer Carter Burwell (Fargo, Carol, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, True Grit, The Banshees of Inisherin, The Blind Side, Twilight, Being John Malkovich) has been elected to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ 2025-2026 Board of Governors. He joins Lesley Barber and Richard Gibbs who will be the other two governors of the music branch in the next term. It will mark Burwell’s first term serving on the music branch board. The Academy’s 19 branches are each represented by three governors, who may serve up to three consecutive three-year terms, followed by a two-year hiatus, after which eligibility renews for up to two additional three-year terms for a lifetime maximum of 12 years. The Board of Governors sets the Academy’s strategic vision, preserves the organization’s financial health, and assures the fulfillment of its mission.
