Premiering on Tuesday, February 5, is the BET original series American Soul created by Devon Greggory & Jonathan Prince and starring Sinqua Walls, Jason Dirden, Iantha Richardson, Christopher Jefferson, Katlyn Nichol and Jelani Winston. The show’s original music is composed by Kurt Farquhar (Black Lightning, The King of Queens, Stitchers, The Neighborhood). Premiering on Friday, February 8, is the Hulu original series PEN15 created by Maya Erskine, Anna Konkle & Sam Zvibleman and starring Erskine & Konkle themselves. Leo Birenberg (Cobra Kai, Son of Zorn, Kung Fu Panda: Paws of Destiny) is composing the show’s original music. The comedy executive produced by Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer & Jorma Taccone of The Lonely Island follows two thirteen-year-old outcasts in the year 2000. The series’ full first season will be available to stream on Friday exclusively on Hulu.

Premiering tonight is the new CBS comedy drama God Friended Me created by Steven Lilien &  Bryan Wynbrandt and starring Brandon Micheal Hall, Joe Morton, Suraj Sharma, Violett Beane and Javicia Leslie. The show’s original music is composed by Mike Suby (The Butterfly Effect, The Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars, Kyle XY). Check out our previous news article to learn more about the series, which follows an outspoken atheist whose life is turned upside down when he receives a friend request on social media from God. The dramedy will air every Sunday night on CBS.

Also premiering tonight following a special premiere earlier this month is the new Fox comedy Rel created by Lil Rel Howery, Kevin Barnett & Josh Rabinowitz and starring Howery, Jordan L. Jones, Jessica ‘Jess Hilarious’ Moore and Sinbad. Derryck ‘Big Tank’ Thornton (My Wife and Kids) is composing the show’s original music. The series, which centers on a newly single father who attempts to make a new start in life on the West Side of Chicago with the assistance of his best friend, younger brother and father, will air Sunday nights on Fox. BET’s ‘American Soul’ to Feature Music by Kurt Farquhar

Kurt Farquhar has announced that he will be composing the score for the upcoming BET original series American Soul. The show is created by Devon Greggory & Jonathan Prince and stars Sinqua Walls, Jason Dirden, Iantha Richardson, Christopher Jefferson, Katlyn Nichol and Jelani Winston. The drama is based on the life and career of Soul Train creator Don Cornelius and centers on his Soul Train dancers, crew and musicians in an unforgiving Hollywood in the 1970’s – how they work, play, rise and fall against the backdrop of Soul Train.

6th Annual Superhero Music Panel at Comic-Con Announced

The line-up of the 6th Annual Musical Anatomy of a Superhero panel has been announced. The event offers a behind-the-scenes look at the music of today’s biggest superhero film and TV projects with unreleased film clips and never-before-heard music. Participating composers include Marco Beltrami whose superhero movie scoring credits include Logan, The Wolverine, Fantastic Four and Hellboy, Christophe Beck who recently scored Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp and previously scored the original Ant-Man movie, as well as Elektra and Tyler Bates who recently scored Deadpool 2 and has also composed the music for the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, as well as the Watchmen film adaptation.

Kurt Farquhar to Score ‘#twominutesoffame’

Kurt Farquhar has been hired to score the upcoming comedy #twominutesoffame. The film is directed by Leslie Small (Hair Show) and stars Jay Pharoah, Katt Williams and Keke Palmer. The movie centers on an up-and-coming social media sensation who travels to L.A. with dreams of becoming a big stand-up comedy star. Devon Shepard and Yamara Taylor wrote the screenplay. Jeff Clanagan (Kevin Hart: What Now?) and Paul Hall (For Colored Girls, Pride, Addicted) are producing the CodeBlack Entertainment/Lionsgate production.

Kurt Farquhar to Score CBS’ ‘Welcome to the Neighborhood’

Kurt Farquhar has announced that he will be scoring the new CBS comedy pilot Welcome to the Neighborhood. The show is created by Jim Reynolds (The Big Bang Theory), directed by James Burrows (Will & Grace) and stars Josh Lawson, Tichina Arnold, Cedric the Entertainer, Christian Camargo, Sheaun McKinney and Marcel Spears. The pilot follows the nicest guy in the Midwest, who moves his family into a tough neighborhood in L.A. where not everyone appreciates his extreme neighborliness. Reynolds is also executive producing the project with Aaron Kaplan (The Chi, Life in Pieces), Dana Honor & Wendi Trilling (9KL), Cedric and Eric Rhone (Code Name: The Cleaner, The Honeymooners).

Premiering on Tuesday, January 16, is the new CW drama Black Lightning developed by Samil Akil & Mara Brock Akil based on the DC comic books character created by Tony Isabella & Trevor Von Eeden and starring Cress Williams, Nafessa Williams, China Anne McClain and Christine Adams. The show’s original music is composed by Kurt Farquhar (The King of Queens, Moesha, The Perfect Game, Stitchers). Premiering on Wednesday, January 17, is the FX original series The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story starring Darren Criss, Edgar Ramírez, Penelope Cruz and Ricky Martin. Mac Quayle (Mr. Robot, American Horror Story, Scream Queens) who previously scored the first American Crime Story season The People v. O.J. Simpson has composed the show’s original music. The drama revolves around Jefferson Pierce (aka Black Lightning) who is pulled back into vigilante life following his retirement as one daughter is hell-bent on justice and the other is being recruited by a local gang.

Four new movies are opening wide this weekend:

10-cloverfield-laneOpening in most theaters is the thriller 10 Cloverfield Lane directed by Dan Trachtenberg and starring John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher Jr. The film’s original music is composed by Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead, Outlander, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). The show’s original music is composed by Robert Duncan (Castle, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Last Resort, The Unit). The Whispers is based on the short story Zero Hour by Ray Bradbury and chronicles the race against the clock to defeat an unseen alien enemy out to achieve world domination using the planet’s most unlikely resource: the children. unrealAlso premiering tomorrow is the Lifetime original series UnReal created by Marti Noxon & Sarah Gertrude Shapiro and starring Shiri Appleby, Constance Zimmer, Craig Bierko, Freddie Stroma, Josh Kelly and Nathalie Kelley. Fil Eisler (Empire, Revenge, Shameless) has composed the show’s original music. UnReal is based on Shapiro’s short Sequin Raze and follows a young staff member on a hit competition dating show who does everything she can to help please the show’s executive producer.
