Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the horror comedy Lisa Frankenstein directed by Zelda Williams and starring Kathryn Newton, Cole Sprouse, Carla Gugino, Joe Chrest, Liza Soberano and Henry Eikenberry. The film’s original score is composed by Isabella Summers (Little Fires Everywhere, Lady Chatterley’s Lover, The Offer, Call Jane, Sex/Life). Opening semi-wide in around 550 theaters is the British horror thriller Out of Darkness directed by Andrew Cumming and starring Chuku Modu, Safia Oakley-Green, Iola Evans, Kit Young, Luna Mwezi and Arno Lüning. Adam Janota Bzowski (Saint Maud, Black Mirror: Loch Henry, The Marsh King’s Daughter, Here Before) has composed the film’s original music. Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Mervyn Warren to Score Nicola Peltz’s & Bria Vinaite’s ‘Lola James’

Mervyn Warren (The Wedding Planner, A Walk to Remember, Joyful Noise, Honey) has been hired to score the upcoming drama Lola James. The film marks the directorial debut of actresses Nicola Peltz (Transformers: Age of Extinction, Bates Motel) & Bria Vinaite (The Florida Project) and stars Peltz herself, alongside Virginia Madsen, Richie Merritt, Trevor Long, Raven Goodwin and Luke David Blumm. The movie is set in middle America and revolves around the 19-year old title character who is working to save enough money to get her little brother out of their toxic home, when she she spirals into a drug addiction that threatens to consume her.

Premiering tonight is the AMC original series Kevin Can F**k Himself created by Valerie Armstrong and starring Annie Murphy, Eric Petersen, Mary Hollis Inboden, Brian Howe, Raymond Lee and Alex Bonifer. The show’s original music is composed by Keegan DeWitt (Hearts Beat Loud, A Teacher, I’ll See You in My Dreams,  Gemini, Divorce, Her Smell, The Hero). Premiering in the U.S. tonight is the British mini-series Us adapted by David Nicholls from his novel of the same title, directed by Geoffrey Sax and starring Tom Hollander, Saskia Reeves, Tom Taylor, Sofie Gråbøl, Iain De Caestecker and Thaddea Graham. Oli Julian (Catastrophe, Sex Education, How to Build a Girl, Code 404, Episodes, Plebs) has composed the show’s original music. Manners McDade has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last year when the comedy drama premiered in the UK on BBC One. Mervyn Warren to Score Solomon Onita, Jr.’s ‘Tazmanian Devil’

Mervyn Warren (The Wedding Planner, Honey, A Walk to Remember, Joyful Noise) has been hired to score the upcoming indie drama Tazmanian Devil. The film is written and directed by Solomon Onita, Jr. and stars Abraham Attah, Adepero Oduye, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine and Kwesi Boakye. The movie centers on a 19-year-old Nigerian immigrant as he struggles to balance his conflicting desires of joining a college fraternity and bonding with his estranged father, a strictly religious pastor at a local church. Tricia Woodgett is producing the project for TigerEye Films.

‘Hot Guys with Guns’ to Feature Music by Mervyn Warren

mervyn-warrenMervyn Warren has started work on his score for the upcoming crime comedy Hot Guys with Guns. The film marks the directorial debut of Doug Spearman (Noah’s Arc) and stars Brian McArdle, Marc Anthony Samuel, Darryl Stephens, Kamar de los Reyes, Jay Huguley, Alan Blumenfeld, Joan Ryan and Trey McCurley. The movie revolves around an actor and his ex-boyfriend who find themselves sucked in a crime spree sending shockwaves through Hollywoood’s Velvet Mafia. Spearman has also written the screenplay and is producing the project with Kelly Jones and Suzan Jones. Apart from composing the score, Warren has also written, performed and arranged the original song Something to Shoot For, which will be playing over a Bond-esque, animated opening sequence.

Opening in most theaters is the thriller Contraband directed by Baltasar Kormakur and starring Mark Wahlberg, Kate Beckinsale, Ben Foster, Lukas Haas, Giovanni Ribisi, Diego Luna and J.K. Simmons. Clinton Shorter (District 9) has written the music for the film. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the movie’s songs performed by J Roddy Walston and the Business, Eli “Paperboy” Reed and The True Loves, Ryan Shaw, The Heavy and Big Head Todd & The Monsters. ‘Joyful Noise’ Soundtrack Details

WaterTower Music will be releasing the official soundtrack album for the gospel-choir comedy Joyful Noise. The album includes a score suite by composer Mervyn Warren who is also involved in arranging and producing the film’s songs performed by Queen Latifah, Dolly Parton, Keke Palmer, Kirk Franklin, Jeremy Jordan, Angela Grovey, Ivan Kelley, Jr. and Karen Peck. The soundtrack will be released on January 10, 2012 and is available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips from all tracks on the album after the jump. Mervyn Warren to Score ‘Joyful Noise’

Mervyn Warren is set to score the gospel-choir comedy Joyful Noise. The film centers on an unlikely partnership between two strong-minded women who are forced to work together to save a small town gospel choir after budget cuts threaten to shut them down. The movie stars Queen Latifah, Dolly Parton, Keke Palmer, Kris Kristofferson, Courtney B. Vance and Jesse L. Martin. Todd Graff (Bandslam, Camp) is writing and directing the film. Warren has already been working on the Alcon Entertainment production for several months, as he is also arranging and producing about a dozen songs for the film and he will next be starting to write the orchestral score. The project will be the first major feature scoring assignment in a while for the composer who has scored such films as The Wedding Planner, A Walk to Remember and Honey. Warner Bros has set a January 12, 2012 release date for Joyful Noise.
