Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the superhero movie Shazam! Fury of the Gods directed by David F. Sandberg and starring Zachary Levi, Jack Dylan Grazer, Asher Angel, Rachel Zegler, Lucy Liu, Helen Mirren, Adam Brody, Meagan Good, Ross Butler, D.J. Cotrona and Djimon Hounsou. The film’s original music is composed by Christophe Beck (Ant-Man series, Frozen, WandaVision, Free Guy, Edge of Tomorrow, The Hangover). . WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last Friday. Check out our previous article for the full album details and to learn more about the Warner Bros. Opening semi-wide in around 800 theaters is the comedy drama Moving On written and directed by Paul Weitz and starring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Malcolm McDowell and Richard Roundtree. Amanda Jones (Naomi, Super/Natural, Twenties, Good Trouble, Adventure Time: Distant Lands, Somebody Somewhere) has composed the film’s original score. No word on a soundtrack release. The movie, which follows two estranged friends who reunite to seek revenge on the petulant widower of their recently deceased best friend, premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival and is being released by Roadside Attractions.

The film marks the narrative directorial of Matt Smukler and stars Kiernan Shipka, Dash Mihok, Charlie Plummer, Alexandra Daddario, Reid Scott, Brad Garrett, Erika Alexander, Jacki Weaver, Samantha Hyde, Jean Smart and Ryan Kiera Armstrong. The movie revolves around a young woman caring for her intellectually disabled parents while seeking an independent life.

Premiering on Tuesday, February 12 is the TBS original series Miracle Workers created by Simon Rich based on his book What in God’s Name and starring Daniel Radcliffe, Steve Buscemi, Geraldine Viswanathan and Karan Soni. No composer is credited on the show. Rob Hill serves as the project’s music supervisor. Also premiering on Tuesday is the BET original series Boomerang created by Lena Waithe & Ben Cory Jones based on the 1992 feature of the same title, executive produced by Halle Berry and starring Tequan Richmond, Tetona Jackson, Leland Martin and Lala Milan. Chad Fischer (Scandal, Private Practice, Chasing Mavericks) is the composer of the new YouTube Premium original anthology series Weird City. The show is created by Jordan Peele (Get Out) & Charlie Sanders and stars Dylan O’Brien, Awkwafina, Michael Cera, Rosario Dawson, Steven Yeun, Ed O’Neil, Hannah Simone, Gillian Jacobs, Laverne Cox, Malcolm Barrett, Mark Hamill, Yvette Nicole Brown, Trevor Jackson, Auli’i Cravalho, Levar Burton and Sara Gilbert. The sci-fi comedy is set in a dystopian setting, where the middle class has completely vanished dividing “Weird City” into two sections: Above the Line (The Haves), and Below the Line (The Have Nots).

The film is directed by Rodman Slender (Idle Hands, Leprechaun 2) and stars Jake Cannavale, Angelique Rivera, Sarah Yarkin, Jim Titus, Patrick Fabian, Ty Headlee, Kristin Daniel and Kym Jackson. The movie follows two zombie virus-infected high school seniors as they run from a psychic sent by the government to track them down, and search for a cure for their affliction.

Score Album for ABC’s ‘Scandal’ to Be Released

Hollywood Records will release a new soundtrack album for the ABC drama Scandal. The album features selections of the show’s original score composed by Chad Fischer (Garden State, Private Practice, Chasing Mavericks, The Catch). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, January 19 and will be available to download on Amazon, where you can also check out audio samples. The release marks the second soundtrack for the hit series following an album featuring songs from the drama that was released in 2013. Scandal is created by Shonda Rhimes and stars Kerry Washington as Olivia Pope, a former media relations consultant to the President who left the White House to open her own firm, hoping to start a new career and a new personal life.

Also premiering tonight is the TV special Ice Age: The Great Egg-Scapade directed by Ricardo Curtis and featuring the voices of Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Taraji P. Henson, Seth Green, Wendy Williams, Gabriel Iglesias, Lili Estefan, Blake Anderson, Seann William Scott, Josh Peck, Keke Palmer and Queen Latifah. The animated special’s original music is composed by Mark Mothersbaugh (The LEGO Movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, The Rugrats Movie, Hotel Transylvania) who previously scored the Ice Age short Ice Age: Cosmic Scat-tastrophe, which played in front of The Peanuts Movie.

Chad Fischer Scoring ABC’s ‘The Catch’

Chad Fischer is composing the music for the new ABC drama The Catch. The show is created by Jennifer Schuur and stars Mireille Enos, Peter Krause, Alimi Ballard, Jay Hayden, Jacky Ido, Rose Rollins, Elvy Yost and Sonya Walger. The series follows a female forensics accountant in Los Angeles whose career specialty is exposing fraud for a living. Shonda Rhimes (Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder) is executive producing the ABC Studios production with Betsy Beers, Allan Heinberg and Julie Anne Robinson (One for the Money, The Last Song). Fischer is also scoring the Rhimes-produced ABC drama Scandal and has previously collaborated with the producer on the network’s Private Practice.

Four new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

One of the most talked about and ambitious film of the season is the epic adventure drama Cloud Atlas directed by Tom Tykwer and Andy & Lana Wachowski and starring Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Ben Whishaw, James D’Arcy, Xun Zhou, Keith David, David Gyasi, Susan Sarandon and Hugh Grant. The film’s music is composed by Tom Tykwer, Johnny Klimek and Reinhold Heil. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the score earlier this week. Also opening wide is the horror sequel Silent Hill: Revelation 3D based on the video game, directed by Michael J. Bassett and starring Sean Bean, Deborah Kara Unger, Radha Mitchell, Adelaide Clemens, Kit Harington, Carrie-Anne Moss and Malcolm McDowell. Jeff Danna and Akira Yamaoka who preciously scored the first installment in the series have written the music for the film. ‘Chasing Mavericks’ Soundtrack Details

The details of the soundtrack album for the drama Chasing Mavericks have been revealed. The album features the original song Give Me An Energy by Greg Holden, as well as several alternative rock tracks from the 90s by artists including Mazzy Star, Sponge, The Butthole Surfers, The Lemonheads, Dinosaur Jr. and Matthew Sweet. Also included is a 6-minute suite from the movie’s original score composed by Chad Fischer (Garden State). The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 23, 2012 by Relativity Music Group. As previously reported, a CD version is coming out in November and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips from the album below. Chasing Mavericks directed by Curtis Hanson and Michael Apted and starring Jonny Weston, Gerard Butler, Taylor Handley, Elisabeth Shue and Abigail Spencer tells the story of Jay Moriarty, a world champion surfer from Northern California.
