Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the musical fantasy adventure Wonka directed by Paul King and starring Timothée Chalamet, Calah Lane, Hugh Grant, Keegan-Michael Key, Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins, Jim Carter and Olivia Colman. The film’s original songs are written by Neil Hannon (of The Divine Comedy) and the movie’s original score is composed by Joby Talbot (Sing, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Closed Circuit, Penelope). Opening in select theaters today before expanding to more markets next Friday, December 22, is the satire American Fiction written and directed by Cord Jefferson and starring Jeffrey Wright, Tracee Ellis Ross, Sterling K. Brown, Leslie Uggams, John Ortiz, Erika Alexander, Adam Brody, Keith David and Issa Rae. Laura Karpman (The Marvels, What If…?, Ms. Marvel, Lovecraft Country, Underground, Taken, Set It Up) has composed the film’s original music. Sony Masterworks has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Mica Levi Scoring Jonathan Glazer’s ‘The Zone of Interest’

Composer Mica Levi (Jackie, Monos, Small Axe) is reteaming with director Jonathan Glazer on the upcoming drama The Zone of Interest. The film is written and directed by Glazer and stars Sandra Hüller and Christian Friedel. The movie is loosely based on the novel of the same title by Martin Amis about a Nazi officer who has become enamored with the wife of the commander of the Auschwitz concentration camp.

Three new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this week:

Opening in most theaters is the animated feature The Boss Baby: Family Business directed by Tom McGrath and starring Alec Baldwin, Jeff Goldblum, Ariana Greenblatt, Lisa Kudrow, Jimmy Kimmel, Eva Longoria, James Marsden and Amy Sedaris. The film’s original score is composed by Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight, The Lion King, Inception, Gladiator) and Steve Mazzaro (The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, The Rhythm Section).Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score, as well as two songs performed by Greenblatt, Marsden & Jacob Collier today. Also opening wide is the thriller The Forever Purge directed by Everardo Gout and starring Ana de la Reguera, Tenoch Huerta, Josh Lucas, Alejandro Edda, Leven Rambin, Cassidy Freeman and Will Patton. The Newton Brothers (The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep, Oculus, Life of Crime, Oujia: Origin of Evil) have composed the film’s original music. ‘Zola’ Soundtrack Album Details

A24 and Invada Records will release a soundtrack album for the comedy drama Zola. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee Mica Levi (Jackie, Under the Skin, Monos, Small Axe). The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, July 2 and will be available to stream/download here, where you can also check out audio samples. A vinyl edition is also in the works. Zola is co-written and directed by Janicza Bravo and stars Taylour Paige, Riley Keough, Nicholas Braun and Colman Domingo. The movie is based on a series of tweets from Aziah ‘Zola’ Wells who, in 2015, detailed a wild trip to Florida with a sex worker, her boyfriend and he violent pimp.

‘Small Axe’ Soundtrack Album Announced

Motown Records will release a soundtrack album for the Amazon anthology films series Small Axe. The album features selections of the original score from the movies composed by Mica Levi (Jackie, Under the Skin, Monos), as well as several songs from the series, including two exclusive tracks: Michael Kiwanuka’s rendition of the Nina Simone’s To Be Young, Gifted And Black and Tiana Major9’s cover of Janet Kay’s Silly Games. Also included are spoken word pieces written by poet Linton Kwesi Johnson and performed by himself and cast members Sheyi Cole, Rochenda Sandall, and Shaun Parkes. The soundtrack will be released digitally on June 11 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A limited edition vinyl edition will be coming out the following day, on Record Store Day, Saturday, June 12.

Premiering tonight is the Showtime docu-series The Reagans directed and executive produced by Matt Tyrnauer about the rise and reign of America’s ultimate power couple, Ronald & Nancy Reagan. The show’s original music is composed by Lorne Balfe (Mission: Impossible – Fallout, The LEGO Batman Movie, His Dark Materials, The Crown, Home, Bad Boys for Life) who previously scored Tyrnauer’s features Studio 54 and Where’s My Roy Cohn?. Premiering on Wednesday, November 18, is the documentary Crazy, Not Insane directed and produced by Alex Gibney about Dr. Dorothy Otnow Lewis, a psychiatrist who has dedicated her career to studying murderers and seeking answers as to why people kill. Will Bates (Unbelievable, Away, I Origins, The Magicians, The Looming Tower, Nightflyers) who has previously scored numerous of Gibney’s documentaries has composed the film’s original music. The movie, which premiered at this year’s Copenhagen International Documentary Festival and also screened at the 2020 Venice Film Festival will debut in the U.S. exclusively on HBO and HBO Max.

Mica Levi Scoring Janicza Bravo’s ‘Zola’

Mica Levi (Jackie, Under the Skin, Monos) is scoring the upcoming drama Zola. The film is directed by Janicza Bravo and stars Taylour Paige, Riley Keough, Nicholas Braun and Colman Domingo. The movie is based on a series of tweets from Aziah ‘Zola’ Wells who, in 2015, detailed a wild 2-day trip to Florida with a sex worker, her boyfriend and he violent pimp. Bravo also co-wrote the screenplay with Jeremy O. Harris. Christine Vachon (Carol, Far from Heaven), David Hinojosa (First Reformed, Vox Lux), Vince Jolivette (The Disaster Artist, Palo Alto), Elizabeth Haggard, Dave Franco and Gia Walsh (The Art of Getting By) are producing the project.

Two new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the drama Hustlers written and directed by Lorene Scafaria and starring Constance Wu, Jennifer Lopez, Julia Stiles, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart, Lizzo and Cardi B. The movie doesn’t feature an original score. STX Entertainment’s head of music Jason Markey serves as the project’s music supervisor. No soundtrack album has been announced yet. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee Mica Levi (Jackie, Under the Skin). The soundtrack will be released on August 30 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also download a first track. Monos is co-written and directed by Alejandro Landes and stars Julianne Nicholson, Moisés Arias, Sofia Buenaventura, Deiby Rueda, Karen Quintero, Laura Castrillón, Julián Giraldo, Paul Cubides, Sneider Castro and Wilson Salazar.
