Milan Records will release the official soundtrack album for Steve McQueen’s historical drama Blitz. The album features the film’s original score composed by Academy Award winner Hans Zimmer (The Lion King, Gladiator, Dune, The Dark Knight, Inception, 12 Years a Slave). Also included are the movie’s original songs written by Academy Award nominees Nicholas Britell (Moonlight, Succession, Andor, The Big Short) & Taura Stinson and McQueen, as well as Britell’s new arrangements of Oh Johnny, Oh Johnny, Oh performed by Celeste and Allelujah (Hallelujah) performed by Benjamin Clementine. The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, November 1 and will be available to stream/download on Amazon and any other major digital music services. Composer Hans Zimmer is reuniting with director Steve McQueen on the upcoming historical drama Blitz. The film is written and directed by McQueen (Shame, Small Axe) and stars Saoirse Ronan, Elliott Heffernan, Harris Dickinson, Kathy Burke, Benjamin Clementine, Paul Weller, Leigh Gill, Stephen Graham, Mica Ricketts, Alex Jennings, CJ Beckford, Joshua McGuire, Hayley Squires, Erin Kellyman and Sally Messham. The movie follows a 9-year-old boy in World War II London who – after being sent to safety in the English countryside – is determined to return home and finds himself in immense peril, while his distraught mother searches for her missing son.

The movie follows the filmmaker as he creates two interlocking portraits: a door-to-door excavation of the Nazi occupation that still haunts his adopted city, and a journey through the last years of pandemic and protest.
Oliver Coates Scoring Steve McQueen’s ‘Occupied City’
Oliver Coates (Aftersun, The Stranger, Significant Other) has composed the original music for the upcoming documentary Occupied City. The film directed and produced by Steve McQueen (12 Years a Slave, Shame, Widows) is informed by the book Atlas of an Occupied City (Amsterdam 1940-1945) written by Bianca Stigter and tells a story of life under Nazi occupation in Amsterdam during World War II in the early 1940s.
‘Small Axe’ Soundtrack Album Announced
Motown Records will release a soundtrack album for the Amazon anthology films series Small Axe. The album features selections of the original score from the movies composed by Mica Levi (Jackie, Under the Skin, Monos), as well as several songs from the series, including two exclusive tracks: Michael Kiwanuka’s rendition of the Nina Simone’s To Be Young, Gifted And Black and Tiana Major9’s cover of Janet Kay’s Silly Games. Also included are spoken word pieces written by poet Linton Kwesi Johnson and performed by himself and cast members Sheyi Cole, Rochenda Sandall, and Shaun Parkes. The soundtrack will be released digitally on June 11 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A limited edition vinyl edition will be coming out the following day, on Record Store Day, Saturday, June 12.
Mica Levi Scoring Steve McQueen’s ‘Lovers Rock’
Mica Levi (Under the Skin, Jackie, Monos) has composed the original music for the drama Lovers Rock. The film is directed by Steve McQueen (12 Years a Slave, Shame, Widows) as part of his anthology series Small Axe and stars Amarah-Jae St. Aubyn, Micheal Ward, Francis Lovehall, Shaniqua Okwok, Ellis George, Kadeem Ramsay, Daniel Francis-Swaby, Kedar Williams-Stirling and Joshua Vine. The movie takes place during a blues party in the early 1980s and tells a story of young love. McQueen also co-wrote the script with Courttia Newland. Levi has also composed the original score for the other installments in the Small Axe series.

Also expected to be included are the songs from the film. As previously reported, Sade has contributed the original song The Big Unknown to the movie. The movies is based on the 1983 British miniseries of the same title and follows four armed robbers who are killed in a failed heist attempt, leaving their widows to finish the job.
