The details of the soundtrack album for Steve McQueen’s historical drama 12 Years a Slave have been announced. The album features selections from the film’s original score composed by Hans Zimmer, as well as original recordings from John Legend (who serves as the soundtrack’s producer), Alicia Keys (who performs Queen of the Field (Patsey’s Song) and Alabama Shakes (performing Driva Man). Also included on the release is the track Roll Jordan Roll performed by the film’s cast. Other songs featured on the album Freight Train by Gary Clark Jr. and Misery Chain performed by Chris Cornell and The Civil Wars’ Joy Williams. Also featured are the film’s waltzes, spirituals and field songs composed and arranged by Nicholas Britell. The soundtrack will be released digitally on November 5, 2013 by Columbia Records. A physical version will be released one week later and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips will be added to this article within the next couple of weeks. 12 Years a Slave starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano, Paul Giamatti, Lupita Nyong’o, Sarah Paulson, Brad Pitt and Alfre Woodard is being released in select theaters today, October 18 and will expand to more cities within the next couple of weeks.

Columbia Records to Release ’12 Years a Slave’ Soundtrack
Columbia Records will release a soundtrack album for the critically acclaimed period drama 12 Years a Slave. The album features music from and inspired by the film. Among the artists contributing to the soundtrack are John Legend, Alicia Keys and Gary Clark Jr. The full details are expected to be announced within the next couple of days. The movie features an original score composed by Hans Zimmer. In addition, pianist/composer Nicholas Britell has written and arranged the film’s on-screen violin music, which is performed by violinist Tim Fain. Hans Zimmer Scoring Steve McQueen’s ‘Twelve Years a Slave’
Hans Zimmer has recently composed the score for the upcoming historical drama Twelve Years a Slave. The film is directed by Steve McQueen amd stars Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Brad Pitt, Quvenzhané Wallis, Paul Dano, Scott McNairy, Sarah Paulson, Alfre Woodard, Paul Giamatti and Lupita Nyong’o. The movie is based on the autobiography Of the same title by Solomon Northup and centers on a free man who was kidnapped in 1841 and sold into slavery on a Louisiana cotton plantation. McQueen co-wrote the script with John Ridley (Red Tails). Dede Gardner (The Tree of Life, Eat Pray Love) is producing the New Regency Producctions and Plan B Entertainment production with Jeremy Kleiner (Killing Them Softly) and Brad Pitt. McQueen’s previous feature Shame featured a score by Harry Escott.
Harry Escott Scoring ‘Shame’
Harry Escott has recently recorded his score for the upcoming drama Shame. The movie is directed by Steve McQueen who previously directed the 2008 BAFTA-nominated drama Hunger. Shame stars Michael Fassbender, Carey Mulligan, James Badge Dale, Nicole Beharie and Hannah Ware. The drama centers on a thirtysomething man living in New York who is battling his sex addiction and has to deal with the arrival of his troubled sister. McQueen co-wrote the screenplay with Abi Morgan (Brick Lane, the upcoming The Iron Lady). Iain Canning and Emile Sherman (The King’s Speech) are producing. Shame is set for a world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival next month.
