Composer Rolfe Kent (Sideways, Up in the Air, Election, Wedding Crashers, Mean Girls, About Schmidt, Downsizing) is reuniting with director Mark Waters (The Spiderwick Chronicles, Bad Santa 2) on the upcoming biographical drama Hershey. The film stars Finn Wittrock & Alexandra Daddario as Milton & Catherine Hershey, the founders of the chocolate empire Alan Ruck, Richard Kind, David Costabile and Heléne Yorke are co-starring in the movie, which tells the story of a man who overcame early failure to build one of the world’s most iconic brands.

Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the horror movie Weapons written and directed by Zach Cregger and starring Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Austin Abrams, Alden Ehrenreich, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong and Amy Madigan. Composer Rolfe Kent (Sideways, Up in the Air, Wedding Crashers, Election, Mean Girls, About Schmidt, Freaky Friday) is reuniting with director Jon S. Baird (Filth, Tetris) on the upcoming comedy drama Everything’s Going to Be Great. The film starring Allison Janney, Bryan Cranston, Jack Champion, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, Simon Rex & Chris Cooper revolves around a couple leading an unpredictable life in regional theater while trying to raise their radically different sons, a hunky football star and his flamboyant, theater-loving younger brother, who unexpectedly have to move in with he mother’s estranged brother. Steven Rogers (I, Tonya, Stepmom) wrote the screenplay.

A number of major film/TV/video game composers will be participating at the 15th Annual Fans of Film Music event, which will take place on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Silent Zoo Studios in Glendale, CA. This year’s panelists include John Paesano (Daredevil, The Maze Runner) who recently scored Wes Ball’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes), Rolfe Kent (Sideways, Election, Up in the Air) whose recent projects include Kristin Scott Thomas’ North Star and David Fleming (The Last of Us, Damsel) who recently received his first two Emmy Award nominations for the Prime Video series Mr. & Mrs. Smith and the Disney+ documentary Jim Henson: Idea Man.
Rolfe Kent Scoring Kristin Scott Thomas’ ‘North Star’
Rolfe Kent (Sideways, Wedding Crashers, About Schmidt, Up in the Air, Election, Mean Girls, Freaky Friday) has provided the original score for the upcoming British drama North Star. The film marks the directorial debut of actress Kristin Scott Thomas and stars Scarlett Johansson, Sienna Miller, Emily Beecham, Scott Thomas herself and Freida Pinto. The movie revolves around three sisters who are hung up on the men in their lives, as their mother prepares for her third wedding. Scott Thomas also co-wrote the screenplay with John Micklethwait.
‘Election’ Score Album to Be Released
Paramount Music will release the first-ever official score album for the 1999 political satire Election co-written and directed by Alexander Payne and starring Matthew Broderick and Reese Witherspoon. The album features the film’s original score composed by Rolfe Kent (Sideways, Up in the Air, About Schmidt, Wedding Crashers, Mean Girls, Downsizing, Freaky Friday), including alternate and unused cues. The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, February 17 and will be available to stream/download on Amazon and any other major digital music services. Sire Records has previously released the 1999 original soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie and a track from Kent’s score.

Baird on the new ITV/BritBox limited series Stonehouse. The show is written by John Preston (A Very English Scandal), directed by Baird (Filth) and stars Matthew Macfadyen, Keeley Hawes, Kevin R. McNally and Emer Heatley. The 3-part drama chronicles the rise and fall of MP John Stonehouse, a high-flying member of Harold Wilson’s Labour government and a seemingly devoted family man, whose perfect life spirals out of control in the early 1970s amid rumors of fraud and espionage.
