Back Lot Music will release the official soundtrack album for the comedy drama The Holdovers. The album features the film’s original score composed by Mark Orton (Nebraska, The Good Girl, My Old Lady, 12 Mighty Orphans, Love Hard). Also included is a selection of the classic songs from the movie by The Allman Brothers Band, The Temptations, The Swingle Singers & others. Composer Mark Orton (The Good Girl, 12 Mighty Orphans, My Old Lady, Love Hard) is reuniting with director Alexander Payne (The Descendants, Election, Sideways) on the upcoming comedy drama The Holdovers. The film starring Paul Giamatti, Da’Vine Joy Randolph & Dominic Sessa is set in the early 1970s and follows a universally disliked professor at a prep school who is forced to remain on campus during Christmas break to babysit the handful of students with nowhere to go and forms an unlikely bond with one of them.
‘Election’ Score Album to Be Released
Paramount Music will release the first-ever official score album for the 1999 political satire Election co-written and directed by Alexander Payne and starring Matthew Broderick and Reese Witherspoon. The album features the film’s original score composed by Rolfe Kent (Sideways, Up in the Air, About Schmidt, Wedding Crashers, Mean Girls, Downsizing, Freaky Friday), including alternate and unused cues. The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, February 17 and will be available to stream/download on Amazon and any other major digital music services. Sire Records has previously released the 1999 original soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie and a track from Kent’s score.
‘Downsizing’ Soundtrack Details
WaterTower Music will release the official soundtrack album for Alexander Payne’s social satire Downsizing. The album features the film’s original music composed by Rolfe Kent (Wedding Crashers, Up in the Air, Legally Blonde) who previously scored Payne’s Sideways (which earned him a Golden Globe nomination), Election, About Schmidt and Citizen Ruth. Also included is the original song A Little Change in the Weather written by Kent, with lyrics by the composer, Edward Randell & Joanna Goldsmith-Eteson and performed by The Swingles. Rolfe Kent is reteaming with director Alexander Payne on the upcoming social satire Downsizing. The film starring Matt Damon, Christoph Waltz, Kristen Wiig, Hong Chau, Alec Baldwin, Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Sudeikis and Rolf Lassgård follows a man who joins the throngs of people undergoing a new process that reduces people to a tiny fraction of their size before moving to one of the many communities of small people that are sprouting up around the world.
Rolfe Kent Scoring Kevin Tent’s ‘Crash Pad’
Rolfe Kent has recently composed the original score for the upcoming romantic comedy Crash Pad. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Academy Award-nominated editor Kevin Tent (The Descendants, Nebraska) and stars Domhnall Gleeson, Christina Applegate, Thomas Haden Church and Nina Dobrev. The movie follows a hopeless romantic who thinks he’s found true love with an older woman, only to learn that she’s married and that his fling is merely an instrument of revenge against her neglectful husband. Jeremy Catalino has written the Black List-honored screenplay.

The album features the film’s original music composed by Mark Orton (The Good Girl) of the Californian acoustic chamber music group Tin Hat. Mark Orton has composed the score for the upcoming comedy drama Nebraska. The film is directed by Alexander Payne and stars Will Forte, Bruce Dern, June Squibb, Bob Odenkirk and Stacy Keach. The movie was shot in black and white and follows an old man with increasing dementia who goes on a road trip from Montana to Nebraska with one of his sons to collect a sweepstakes prize he thinks he has won. Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa (Little Miss Sunshine, Little Children) are producing the project for Bona Fide Productions. Orton is best known as a member of the Californian acoustic chamber music group Tin Hat. He has previously scored a number of films and was one of the composer on Miguel Arteta’s 2002 comedy drama The Good Girl starring Jennifer Aniston.
‘The Descendants’ Soundtrack Announced
Sony Music has announced a soundtrack album for Alexander Payne’s upcoming comedy drama The Descendants. The movie is scored exclusively with Hawaiian music, most of it created by masters of the genre, both modern and classical. Artists featured on the soundtrack include Gabby Pahinui, Ray Kane, Keola Beamer, Lena Machado, Sonny Chillingworth, Jeff Peterson, and Rev. Dennis Kamakahi.
