Weekly Film Music Roundup (August 13, 2021)

Three new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the adventure comedy Free Guy directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Reynolds, Jodie Comer, Lil Rel Howery, Joe Keery, Utkarsh Ambudkar and Taika Waititi. The film’s original score is composed by Christophe Beck (Frozen, Ant-Man,WandaVision, The Hangover, The Peanuts Movie, Edge of Tomorrow, Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Hollywood Records has released two soundtrack albums featuring the songs from the movie and the composer’s score earlier this week. Also opening wide is the biographical drama Respect directed by Liesl Tommy and starring Jennifer Hudson, Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, Audra McDonald, Hailey Kilgore, Saycon Sengbloh, Skye Dakota Turner and Mary J. Blige. Kris Bowers (Green Book, Bridgerton, Space Jam: A New Legacy, Dear White People, Mrs. America) has composed the film’s original score. Roque Banos Scoring Rodo Sayagues’ ‘Don’t Breathe 2’

Roque Banos (The Machinist, Evil Dead, In the Heart of the Sea, The Girl in the Spider’s Web, Sexy Beast, Come Play) is returning as the composer of the upcoming horror sequel Don’t Breathe 2. The film is directed by Rodo Sayagues (who co-wrote and co-produced the original 2016 film) and stars Stephen Lang who reprises his role a Norman Nordstrom. The movie is set in the years following the initial deadly home invasion, where Nordstrom lives in quiet solace until his past sins catch up to him. Sayagues also co-wrote the screenplay with Fede Alvarez who helmed the original film.

’30 Coins’ Episode 2 Soundtrack Album Released

Meliam Music has released the second soundtrack album for the HBO Europe original series 30 Coins (30 Monedas). The album features the original music from the show’s second episode (Ouija) composed by Roque Banos (Don’t Breathe, Evil Dead, In the Heart of the Sea, The Machinist, The Girl in the Spider’s Web, Come Play). Visit Amazon or any other major digital service to stream/download the album and to check out the full track list. The label has previously released the composer’s score from Episode 1 last week and will release the music from the rest of the episodes over the next couple of weeks. 30 Coins is directed by Álex de la Iglesia, co-written by the director & Jorge Guerricaechevarría and stars Eduard Fernández, Megan Montaner, Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Macarena Gómez, Pepón Nieto and Manolo Solo.

Premiering in the U.S. tonight is the British television movie Elizabeth Is Missing directed by Aisling Walsh, written by Andrea Gibb based on Emma Healey’s novel and starring Glenda Jackson, Helen Behan, Sophie Rundle, Liv Hill, Nell Williams, Mark Stanley, Maggie Steed and Sam Hazeldine. Dominik Scherrer (The Missing, Requiem, Marple, Ripper Street, Primeval) has composed the film’s original music. The drama, which revolves aroun a woman affected by dementia who struggles to solve the disappearance of her friend, premiered in the UK in late 2019 on BBC One and is making its domestic debut on PBS as part of the Masterpiece series.

The film’s original music is composed by Roque Banos (Don’t Breathe, In the Heart of the Sea, Evil Dead, The Girl in the Spider’s Web, The Machinist, Sexy Beast). A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score is in the works. Opening in select theaters and on VOD today is the horror thriller Spell directed by Mark Tonderai and starring Omari Hardwick, Loretta Devine, John Beasley and Lorraine Burroughs.
