Roque Banos has signed on to score the upcoming remake of the horror comedy Evil Dead. The film is written and directed by Fede Alvarez and stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Jessica Lucas, Lou Taylor Pucci and Elizabeth Blackmore. The movie is a reinvention of Sam Raimi’s 1981 cult classic about a group of teens who holed up in a remote cabin and discover a Book of the Dead that unleashes demons they cannot control. Raimi is producing the remake with Rob Tapert (Drag me to Hell, The Grudge) and Bruce Campbell through his Ghost House Pictures company. Joseph LoDuca scored the original 1981 film and the two sequels Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness.

Two new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
The first wide release of the week is the 3D fantasy film Wrath of the Titans directed by Jonathan Liebesman and starring Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Danny Huston, Edgar Ramirez, Rosamund Pike and Bill Nighy. The sequel to the 2010 film Clash of the Titans is scored by Javier Navarrete (Pan’s Labyrinth). Also opening wide is the family fantasy comedy Mirror Mirror directed by Tarsem Singh and starring Lily Collins as Snow White, Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen, as well as Armie Hammer, Sean Bean and Nathan Lane. Eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken has composed the music for the film. Relativity Music Group has released a soundtrack album featuring the score, as well as the original song I Believe in Love performed by Lily Collins. ‘Intruders’ Soundtrack Announced
The soundtrack for the horror thriller Intruders will be released by Milan Records. The album features the original score by composer Roque Banos (The Machinist, Sexy Beast). The album is currently set to be released on January 9, 2012 in Europe. (UPDATE March 2012): The album will be released on March 27, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Four new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Opening in almost 3000 theaters is the horror comedy Fright Night directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, Christopher Mintz-Please, David Tennant and Toni Collette. The film’s music is composed by Ramin Djawadi. A soundtrack CD will be released on August 30, 2011 by Varese Sarabande. Also opening wide is the action remake of Conan the Barbarian directed by Marcus Nispel and starring Jason Momoa, Ron Perlman, Rachel Nichols, Rose McGowan and Stephen Lang. ‘The Last Circus’ Soundtrack announced
Milan Records has announced a soundtrack album for the drama The Last Circus. The album includes the original score by composer Roque Banos (The Machinist, the upcoming Intruders) performed by the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra. Also featured on the soundtrack is a rendition of Raphael’s Balada de la Trompet, The soundtrack will be released on August 16, 2011. To pre-order the CD, visit Amazon. The Last Circus is written and directed by Álex de la Iglesia and centers on a “happy” clown who is forcibly recruited to serve in the Spanish Civil War, where he massacres an entire platoon with a machete still in costume. The movie will be released in theaters on August 19 by Magnet Releasing.
Roque Banos Scoring ‘Intruders’
Empire has premiered the first teaser trailer for the upcoming horror thriller Intruders today. A closer look to the credits reveals that Spanish composer Roque Banos is listed as the film’s composer. The movie is directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later, Intact) and stars Clive Owen, Daniel Brühl, Carice van Houten, Ella Purnell and Kerry Fox. The film’s story centers on an 11-year-old girl who is forced to confront childhood demons. The English-language project is a American, British and Spanish co-production and was shot in London and Madrid last summer. Among the film’s producers is Belen Atienza (Pan’s Labyrinth, The Orphonage, Che) who previously produced the Viggo Mortensen-starring adventure biopic Alatriste, which Banos scored back in 2006.
