Roque Banos has signed on to score the upcoming thriller Regression. The film is written and directed by Alejandro Amenábar and stars Ethan Hawke, Emma Watson, David Dencik, Devon Bostic, David Thewlis, Dale Dickey and Lothaire Bluteau. The movie follows a man who is arrested for sexually abusing his daughter and, with the help of a psychologist, relives the memories and implicates a police officer as his partner in crime. Fernando Bovaira (The Others, Biutiful, Sex and Lucia) is producing the project with Christina Piovesan (The Whistleblower, Amreeka). Amenábar’s last feature Agora was scored by Dario Marianelli, while the director composed the music for several of his earlier movies, including The Others, Open Your Eyes and The Sea Inside.

Weekly Film Music Roundup (August 29, 2014)
Two new movies are opening nationwide this week:
Already in theaters since Wednesday is the action thriller The November Man directed by Roger Donaldson and starring Pierce Brosnan, Luke Bracey, Olga Kurylenko, Eliza Taylor, Caterina Scorsone, Bill Smitrovich and Will Patton. Marco Beltrami (World War Z, Scream, The Wolverine, 3:10 to Yuma) has composed the film’s original music. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music digitally earlier this week. A CD version will be released on September 9. Opening nationwide today is the horror thriller As Above, So Below directed by John Erick Dowdle and starring Perdita Weeks, Ben Feldman, Edwin Hodge, Francois Civil, Marion Lambert, Ali Marhyar, Cosme Castro and Hamidreza Javdan. The film’s original music is composed by Keefus Ciancia (Nashville, Saving Grace, Diana, The Motel Life). No word on a soundtrack release. ‘Cantinflas’ Soundtrack Announced
Movic Records will release a soundtrack album for the biographical drama Cantinflas. The album features three tracks from the film’s original score composed by Roque Banos (Evil Dead, Oldboy, The Machinist, Sexy Beast). Also included are the songs from the film by artists including Denise Gutiérrez, Aleks Syntek, Mauricio Sánchez, Enrique Bunbury & more. The soundtrack will be released digitally on August 25, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Cantinflas is directed by Sebastian del Amo and stars Oscar Jaenada, Michael Imperioli, Ilse Salas, Luis Gerardo Mendez, Gabriela de la Garza, Adal Ramones and Ana Layevska. The Spanish-language film tells the story of the Mexican comedic actor who is best known for co-starring with David Niven in 1956’s Around the Word in 80 Days.
‘Oldboy’ Soundtrack Details
Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack album for Spike Lee’s mystery thriller Oldboy. The album features the film’s original score composed and conducted by Roque Banos (The Machinist, Evil Dead, Sexy Beast). The soundtrack will be released physically on January 14, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out our previous article to listen to three full tracks from the score. Oldboy is based on the acclaimed Korean film from 2003 directed by Chan-wook Park and stars Josh Brolin, Samuel L. Jackson, Elizabeth Olsen and Sharlto Copley. The movie follows an alcoholic advertising executive who is kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement before he is released and embarks on an mission to discover who orchestrated his punishment. The movie was released last week by FilmDistrict and is now playing in theaters.
Weekly Film Music Roundup (November 29, 2013)
Opening nationwide this holiday weekend after a 5-day exclusive engagement at Hollywood’s El Capitan Theatre is Disney’s animated feature Frozen directed by Jennifer Lee & Chris Buck and featuring the voice talent of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad, Santino Fontana, Alan Tudyk and Ciarán Hinds. Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez have written the film’s original songs and Christophe Beck (The Muppets, The Hangover) has composed the original score. Walt Disney Records has released the soundtrack featuring the songs and score in two different editions. For the full details, visit our previous news article. Also opening wide is the action thriller Homefront directed by Gary Fleder and starring Jason Statham, James Franco, Winona Ryder, Frank Grillo, Kate Bosworth and Rachelle Lefevre. The film’s original score is composed by Mark Isham (Crash, Once Upon a Time) who has previously collaborated with the director several times, including on such films as Kiss the Girls, Don’t Say a Word and The Express. No soundtrack album has been announced yet. Homefront centers on a former drug enforcement agent and family man who moves off the grid with his daughter to a seemingly quiet bayou backwater to escape his troubled past. Roque Banos to Score Ron Howard’s ‘In the Heart of the Sea’
Roque Banos has been hired to score the upcoming action drama In the Heart of the Sea. The film is directed by Ron Howard and stars Chris Hemsworth, Benjamin Walker, Cillian Murphy, Brendan Gleeson, Sam Keeley, Ben Whishaw, Charlotte Riley and Tom Holland. The movie is based on a novel by Nathaniel Philbrick and follows a whaling ship that is preyed upon by a sperm whale, stranding its crew at sea for 90 days, thousands of miles from home. Charles Leavitt (Blood Diamond, K-Pax) has adapted the material for the screen. Howard’s producing partner Brian Grazer, Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland, Snow White and the Huntsman), Paula Weinstein (The Perfect Storm, Blood Diamond) and William Ward are producing the Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow production. Howard has previously collaborated with such composers as James Horner (A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13, Cocoon), John Williams (Far and Away), Thomas Newman (Cinderella Man) and Randy Newman (Parenthood).

Roque Banos to Score Spike Lee’s ‘Oldboy’
Roque Banos has signed on to score the upcoming English-language remake of Oldboy. The film is directed by Spike Lee (Malcolm X, Inside Man) and stars Josh Brolin, Samuel L. Jackson, Elizabeth Olsen and Sharlto Copley. The movie follows an advertising executive who is kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement and sets out to find out who held him hostage and why when he is inexplicably released. Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend, Thor) wrote the screenplay based on Chan-wook Park’s acclaimed Korean film from 2003 and Roy Lee & Doug Davison (The Strangers, The Lake House) and Nathan Kahane (Juno, 50/50) are producing the project.
‘Evil Dead’ Soundtrack Details
The full soundtrack details of the soundtrack release for the horror remake Evil Dead have been revealed. The album features the film’s original score composed by Roque Banos (The Machinist, Sexy Beast). The soundtrack will be released digitally on April 9, 2013 by La-La Land Records. A physical version featuring 25 additional minutes of music will be available on the label’s official website on the same date and is now also available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out below. Evil Dead is directed by Fede Alvarez and stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas and Elizabeth Blackmore. Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert are producing the Ghost House Pictures and TriStar Pictures production, which has been released in theaters this past Friday and is now playing nationwide.

The film’s music is written by Spanish composer Roque Banos (The Machinist, Sexy Beast). La-La Land Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally on April 9. A physical release featuring more than 25 minutes of additional music is set to be released on May 7. The full album details will be posted on this website within the next couple of days.
