Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack album for Spike Lee’s mystery thriller Oldboy. The album features the film’s original score composed and conducted by Roque Banos (The Machinist, Evil Dead, Sexy Beast). The soundtrack will be released physically on January 14, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out our previous article to listen to three full tracks from the score. Oldboy is based on the acclaimed Korean film from 2003 directed by Chan-wook Park and stars Josh Brolin, Samuel L. Jackson, Elizabeth Olsen and Sharlto Copley. The movie follows an alcoholic advertising executive who is kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement before he is released and embarks on an mission to discover who orchestrated his punishment. The movie was released last week by FilmDistrict and is now playing in theaters.

Opening nationwide this holiday weekend after a 5-day exclusive engagement at Hollywood’s El Capitan Theatre is Disney’s animated feature Frozen directed by Jennifer Lee & Chris Buck and featuring the voice talent of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad, Santino Fontana, Alan Tudyk and Ciarán Hinds. Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez have written the film’s original songs and Christophe Beck (The Muppets, The Hangover) has composed the original score. Walt Disney Records has released the soundtrack featuring the songs and score in two different editions. For the full details, visit our previous news article. Also opening wide is the action thriller Homefront directed by Gary Fleder and starring Jason Statham, James Franco, Winona Ryder, Frank Grillo, Kate Bosworth and Rachelle Lefevre. The film’s original score is composed by Mark Isham (Crash, Once Upon a Time) who has previously collaborated with the director several times, including on such films as Kiss the Girls, Don’t Say a Word and The Express. No soundtrack album has been announced yet. Homefront centers on a former drug enforcement agent and family man who moves off the grid with his daughter to a seemingly quiet bayou backwater to escape his troubled past. Roque Banos to Score Ron Howard’s ‘In the Heart of the Sea’
Roque Banos has been hired to score the upcoming action drama In the Heart of the Sea. The film is directed by Ron Howard and stars Chris Hemsworth, Benjamin Walker, Cillian Murphy, Brendan Gleeson, Sam Keeley, Ben Whishaw, Charlotte Riley and Tom Holland. The movie is based on a novel by Nathaniel Philbrick and follows a whaling ship that is preyed upon by a sperm whale, stranding its crew at sea for 90 days, thousands of miles from home. Charles Leavitt (Blood Diamond, K-Pax) has adapted the material for the screen. Howard’s producing partner Brian Grazer, Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland, Snow White and the Huntsman), Paula Weinstein (The Perfect Storm, Blood Diamond) and William Ward are producing the Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow production. Howard has previously collaborated with such composers as James Horner (A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13, Cocoon), John Williams (Far and Away), Thomas Newman (Cinderella Man) and Randy Newman (Parenthood).

The movie follows an advertising executive who is kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement and sets out to find out who held him hostage and why when he is inexplicably released. Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend, Thor) wrote the screenplay based on Chan-wook Park’s acclaimed Korean film from 2003 and Roy Lee & Doug Davison (The Strangers, The Lake House) and Nathan Kahane (Juno, 50/50) are producing the project.

Michael Nyman has taken over scoring duties on Spike Lee’s upcoming English language remake of Oldboy. The film starring Josh Brolin, Samuel L. Jackson, Elizabeth Olsen and Sharlto Copley follows an advertising executive who is kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement and sets out to find out who held him hostage and why when he is inexplicably released. Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend, Thor) has written the screenplay based on Chan-wook Park’s critically acclaimed Korean film from 2003 and Roy Lee & Doug Davison (The Strangers, The Lake House), as well as Nathan Kahane (Juno, 50/50) are producing the Good Universe and Vertigo Entertainment/40 Acres & A Mule Filmworks production. The project marks Nyman’s first major American feature scoring assignment in several years.
