Silva Screen Records has released a digital version of the score album for the 2013 biographical/historical drama Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom directed by Justin Chadwick and starring Idris Elba, Naomie Harris, Riaad Moosa, Tony Kgoroge, Lindiwe Matshikiz and Jamie Bartlett. The album features the remastered original score from the film composed by Alex Heffes (The Last King of Scotland, Touching the Void, Queen of Katwe, Roots, State of Play) who received a Golden Globe nomination for his music. The soundtrack, which is being released to coincide with the movie’s 10th anniversary, is now available to stream/download on Amazon and any other major digital music services.

U2 to Perform ‘Ordinary Love’ from ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom’ on the Oscars
Oscars show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced today that U2 will perform the original song Ordinary Love from Justin Chadwick’s biographical drama Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom starring Idris Elba at the 86th Academy Awards ceremony on March 2, 2014. The performance will be the first time the band will perform the song live. Ordinary Love is one of the four nominated songs in the Best Original Song category. It was previously announced that Pharrell Williams will also be performing his nominated song Happy from Despicable Me 2 and Idina Menzel will perform Let It Go from Frozen. The soundtrack for Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, which includes the nominated song is available on Decca Records.

Opening nationwide this holiday weekend after a 5-day exclusive engagement at Hollywood’s El Capitan Theatre is Disney’s animated feature Frozen directed by Jennifer Lee & Chris Buck and featuring the voice talent of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad, Santino Fontana, Alan Tudyk and Ciarán Hinds. Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez have written the film’s original songs and Christophe Beck (The Muppets, The Hangover) has composed the original score. Also opening wide is the action thriller Homefront directed by Gary Fleder and starring Jason Statham, James Franco, Winona Ryder, Frank Grillo, Kate Bosworth and Rachelle Lefevre. The film’s original score is composed by Mark Isham (Crash, Once Upon a Time) who has previously collaborated with the director several times, including on such films as Kiss the Girls, Don’t Say a Word and The Express. No soundtrack album has been announced yet. Homefront centers on a former drug enforcement agent and family man who moves off the grid with his daughter to a seemingly quiet bayou backwater to escape his troubled past. The album features the songs from the film, including the original song Ordinary Love by U2, as well as songs by Bob Marley & The Wailers, Art Blakey, The Special AKA, The Manhattan Brothers and The Havana Singers. Alex Heffes to Score ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom’
Alex Heffes has been hired to score the upcoming biographical drama Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. The film is directed by Justin Chadwick (The Other Boleyn Girl) and stars Idris Elba in the title role as the South African civil rights leader and Naomie Harris as Nelson Mandela’s wife, Winnie. Tony Kgoroge, Riaad Moosa, Zolani Mkiva, Jamie Bartlett, Lindiwe Matshikiza, Deon Lotz and Terry Pheto are co-starring. William Nicholson (Gladiator, Les Miserables) has written the screenplay based on Mandela’s autobiography. The movie is produced by Anant Singh (Pulse) who started communicating with Mandela about making a film based on his life while he was still in prison and acquired the film rights to Mandela’s book at the time of its publication in 1996. Heffes has previously collaborated with Chadwick on his previous feature The First Grader.
