Daniel Bensi and Saunder Jurriaans have composed the score for the upcoming indie thriller Enemy. The film is directed by Denis Villeneuve (Incendies, the upcoming Prisoners) and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Mélanie Laurent, Sarah Gadon and Isabella Rossellini. The movie is based on the novel The Double by José Saramago and follows a dysfunctional history teacher who accidentally discovers his exact double on a rented DVD, seeks him out and ends up turning both of their lives upside down. Javier Gullón has adapted the material for the screen and Niv Fichman (Blindness, The Red Violin, Last Night), Miguel A. Faura and Luc Déry (Monsieur Lazhar) are producing the project.

Weekly Film Music Roundup (April 5, 2013)
Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the horror reboot Evil Dead directed by Fede Alvarez and starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas and Elizabeth Blackmore. The film’s music is written by Spanish composer Roque Banos (The Machinist, Sexy Beast). La-La Land Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally on April 9. A physical release featuring more than 25 minutes of additional music is set to be released on May 7. The full album details will be posted on this website within the next couple of days. Also opening wide is the Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park 3D based on the novel by Michael Crichton and starring Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Samuel L. Jackson and Richard Attenborough. The movie’s music is composed and conducted by John Williams. Geffen Records has released a 20th Anniversary soundtrack edition featuring the content of the original album, as well as four previously unreleased tracks. Daniel Bensi and Saunder Jurriaans are scoring the upcoming psychological thriller Magic Magic. The film is written and directed by Sebastián Silva (The Maid) and stars Michael Cera, Juno Temple, Emily Browning and Catalina Sandino Moreno. The movie follows a young American who is vacationing with her friends in a remote part of Chile and begins to mentally unravel and enter into a world of disturbing landscapes and crushing terror. The thriller is produced by Frida Torresblanco (Pan’s Labyrinth) for Braven Films, Christine Vachon (Boys Don’t Cry, Far from Heaven) for Killer Films and Mike White (Nacho Libre) & David Bernad (HBO’s Enlightened) for Rip Cord Productions.
Sundance 2012 Film Music Roundup (Part 1)
Over the next week, we will be looking at the music and composers of some of the most high profile titles premiering at the Sundance Film Festival that haven’t been covered yet on this page.
One of the best reviewed film so far at the festival is the documentary West of Memphis directed by Amy Berg who had been Academy Award-nominated for the 2006 movie Deliver Us from Evil. West of Memphis produced by Peter Jackson & Fran Walsh (The Lord of the Rings), Lorri Davis and Damien Echols centers on the wrongful conviction case of three Arkansas teenagers (known as the West Memphis Three) who were found guilty in 1994 of the ritual murder of three eight-year-old boy. The film’s music is written by Nick Cave & Warren Ellis (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, The Road).
Weekly Film Music Roundup (October 21, 2011)
Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend. Apart from Paranormal Activity 3, which is expected to top the weekend box office and doesn’t feature any original music, the following three movies are receiving a wide release:
The Three Musketeers directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and starring Logan Lerman, Milla Jovovich, Orlando Bloom, Christoph Waltz, Matthew MacFayden, Luke Evans, Mads Mikkelsen, Juno Temple and Ray Stevenson features music by Paul Haslinger. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as Take That’s end title song When We Were Young has been released earlier this week by Milan Records. Also opening wide is the action spoof Johnny English Reborn starring Oliver Parker and starring Rowan Atkinson, Rosamunde Pike, Dominic West and Gillian Anderson. The film’s score is written by Ilan Eshkeri. A soundtrack CD including the score will be released on November 1 by Varese Sarabande. The album is also already available digitally on iTunes. ‘Martha Marcy May Marlene’ Soundtrack Released
Fox Music has released a soundtrack album for the indie thriller Martha Marcy May Marlene. The album features the original music from the movie written by Saunder Jurriaans and Daniel Bensi, as well as three songs from the film performed by Brad Corbet, Christopher Abbott and cast member John Hawkes. At the moment, the soundtrack is available exclusively as a digital release on iTunes. Martha Marcy May Marlene is written and directed by Sean Durkin and stars Elizabeth Olsen as a a young woman rapidly unraveling amidst her attempt to reclaim a normal life after fleeing from a cult and its charismatic leader. Sarah Paulson and John Hawkes are co-starring.
