Mason Daring (Where the Heart Is, A Walk on the Moon, The Opposite of Sex, Lone Star, Music of the Heart) has recently composed the music for the upcoming documentary Moynihan. The film is directed by Joseph Dorman (Colliding Dreams, Arguing the World) & Toby Perl Freilich and centers on Daniel Patrick Moynihan (1927-2013), the seminal public intellectual and sociologist, policy specialist, ambassador and long serving New York senator. Jeffrey Wright is narrating the movie, which features interviews with Ta-Nehisi Coates, Eleanor Holmes Norton, George Will, Henry Kissinger, among others.

Only one new movie is opening in wide release this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the superhero sequel Thor: The Dark World directed by Alan Taylor and starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Kat Dennings, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Anthony Hopkins. Brian Tyler who previously scored Marvel’s Iron Man 3 earlier this year has composed the film’s music. Hollywood Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally and Intrada Records will release a physical version. Opening in limited release is the period drama The Book Thief directed by Brian Percival and starring Geoffrey Rush, Emily Watson and Sophie Nelisse. The film’s original music is composed and conducted by Academy Award winner John Williams. Sony Classical will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score on November 8. Mason Daring Scoring ‘Go for Sisters’
Mason Daring is reuniting with director John Sayles on the upcoming indie drama Go for Sisters. The film stars Edward James Olmos, LisaGay Hamilton, Yolonda Ross, Harold Perrineau, Hector Elizondo and Isaiah Washington. The movie follows two friends who lose track of each other for twenty years and are reunited when one of them is assigned as the parole officer for the other, who is fresh out of prison and fighting heroin addiction. Sayles has also written the screenplay and Alejandro Springall, Peter Bobrow and Edward James Olmos are producing. Daring is Sayles’ regular composer and has scored such films as Lone Star, Passion Fish, Sunshine State and Silver City.

Four new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Opening in almost 3000 theaters is the horror comedy Fright Night directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, Christopher Mintz-Please, David Tennant and Toni Collette. The film’s music is composed by Ramin Djawadi. A soundtrack CD will be released on August 30, 2011 by Varese Sarabande. Also opening wide is the action remake of Conan the Barbarian directed by Marcus Nispel and starring Jason Momoa, Ron Perlman, Rachel Nichols, Rose McGowan and Stephen Lang.
