Three new movies are opening nationwide this holiday weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the action comedy Ride Along 2 directed by Tim Story and starring Ice Cube, Kevin Hart, Ken Jeong, Benjamin Bratt, Olivia Munn, Bruce McGill, Tika Sumpter and Sherri Shepherd. The film’s original music is composed by Christopher Lennertz (Agent Carter, Horrible Bosses, Identity Thief, Hop) who collaborate with such musicians as drummer Sheila E. and trumpeter Arturo Sandoval on the project. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening wide is the action drama 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of the Benghazi directed by Michael Bay and starring John Krasinski, Pablo Schreiber, Domicnic Fumusa, Max Martini, James Badge Dale, Toby Stephens, Matt Letscher and David Denman. Lorne Balfe (Terminatory Genisys, Home, Penguins of Madagascar) has composed the film’s original music. Hans Zimmer serves as the executive music producer. Paramount Pictures is releasing a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Click here for the full album details. ‘Band of Robbers’ Soundtrack Released

A soundtrack album for the caper comedy Band of Robbers has been released. The album features the film’s original music composed by Joel P West (Short Term 12, Grandma). The soundtrack is now available to download on iTunes, where you can also listen to audio samples. Band of Robbers is written and directed by Aaron & Adam Nee and stars Kyle Gallner, Matthew Gray Gubler, Melissa Benoist, Hannibal Buress, Eric Christian Olsen, Stephen Lang, Daniel Mora, as well as Adam Nee himself. The movie is a modern-day retelling of Mark Twain’s iconic books and imagines the author’s infamous young heroes Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer as grown men in current day.

Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the action thriller Hitman: Agent 47 directed by Aleksander Bach and starring Rupert Friend, Hannah Ware, Zachary Quinto, Ciarán Hinds and Thomas Kretschmann. The film’s original music is composed by Marco Beltrami (World War Z, The Wolverine, Scream, The Hurt Locker). La-La Land Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music next week. Also opening wide is the action comedy American Ultra directed by Nima Nourizadeh and starring Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Topher Grace, Connie Britton, Tony Hale, John Leguizamo, Bill Pullman and Walton Goggins. Marcelo Zarvos (The Affair, Ray Donavan, Remember Me, Enough Said) has composed the film’s original score. No word yet on a soundtrack album. American Ultra follows a seemingly hapless and unmotivated stoner whose small-town life with his live-in girlfriend is suddenly turned upside down when he finds out that he is actually a highly trained, lethal sleeper agent. ‘Grandma’ Soundtrack Details

Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the indie comedy drama Grandma. The album features the film’s original music composed by Joel P West (Short Term 12). Also included are the songs from the movie by The Tree Ring, Angus and Julia Stone and Flood Coats. The soundtrack will be released digitally on August 21, 2015 and physically on August 28. Joel P. West to Score Paul Weitz’s ‘Grandma’

Paul Weitz has been hired to score the upcoming indie comedy Grandma. The film is written and directed by Paul Weitz (About a Boy, In Good Company, American Pie) and stars Lily Tomlin, Julia Garner, Marcia Gay Harden, Judy Greer, Laverne Cox and Sam Elliott. The movie follows a self-described misanthrope who has her protective bubble burst when her 18-year-old granddaughter shows up needing help. Weitz is also producing the project with Andrew Miano (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, A Single Man), Terry Dougas (Jane Got a Gun) and Paris Latsis.

Four new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Expected to top the weekend box office is the action adventure Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles directed by Jonathan Liebesman and starring Megan Fox, Will Arnett, William Fichtner, as well as the voices of Alan Ritchson, Noel Fisher, Jeremy Howard and Pete Ploszek. The film’s original music is composed by Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Fast Five). Atlantic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this week. Brian Tyler has also composed the music for the disaster action adventure Into the Storm directed by Steven Quale and starring Richard Armitage, Sarah Wayne Callies, Matt Walsh, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Arlen Escarpeta, Max Deacon, Nathan Kress, Jeremy Sumpter, Kyle Davis and Jon Reep. Joel P. West is the composer of the upcoming indie drama About Alex. The film marks the directorial debut of Jesse Zwick (Parenthood) and stars Aubrey Plaza, Jason Ritter, Max Greenfield, Nate Parker, Maggie Grace, Max Minghella and Jane Levy. The movie follows seven college friends who reunite one long weekend after one of their own attempts suicide. Zwick has also written the screenplay and Adam Saunders (Family Weekend) is producing the Footprint Features production. Edward Zwick (Legends of the Fall, The Last Samurai) who is the director’s father is executive producing the project with Marshall Herskovitz (Traffic).

Three new movies are opening nationwide this week:

Already in theaters since this past Wednesday is the fantasy adventure The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones directed by Harald Zwart and starring Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Lena Headey, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Aidan Turner, Robert Sheehan, Kevin Durand and Jared Harris. Republic Records has released a soundtrack featuring the film’s songs by artists including Zedd, Jessie J, AFI and Demi Lovato. Check out our previous article for the full details. The film’s original score is composed by Atli Orvarsson (Vantage Point, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters). A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score has been released on Milan Records. ‘Short Term 12’ Soundtrack Details

Milan Records will release a soundtrack album for the indie drama Short Term 12. The album features the film’s original music composed by Joel P West, as well as songs by The Tree Ring, The Shivers and other acts performed and featured in the film. The soundtrack will be released on August 20, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Short Term 12 is written and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and stars Brie Larson, John Gallagher Jr., Kaitlyn Dever, Rami Malek and Keith Stanfield. The movie follows a twenty-something social worker who has channeled the demons of her own troubled past into a passion for helping at-risk teens. The drama premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and was picked up by Cinedigm for a theatrical release on August 23.

Sundance 2012 Film Music Roundup (Part 2)

A film that is likely to find distribution within the next few days or weeks given its high profile cast and positive critical reaction is the comedy drama Robot and Frank directed by Jake Schreier. The movie stars Frank Langella as an elderly ex-jewel thief who leads a lonely life until his grown children install a robot to care for him, sparking off an unlikely friendship. Susan Sarandon, James Marsden, Liv Tyler, Peter Saarsgard (as the robot’s voice), Jeremy Sisto and Jeremy Strong are co-starring. Christopher Ford has written the screenplay and Galt Niederhoffer (The Romantics), Sam Bisbee, Jackie Kelman Bisbee and Lance Acord (BAFTA-nominated cinematographer for Lost in Translation) are producing. The film’s music is written by Francis and the Lights (aka Francis Farewell Starlit). The project marks the singer/songwriter’s first film music project.
