Gustavo Santaolalla has recently composed the original music for the upcoming coming-of-age drama The Tribes of Palos Verdes. The film is directed by Emmett & Brendan Malloy and stars Maika Monroe, Jennifer Garner, Milo Gibson, Elisabeth Rohm, Goran Visnjic, Justin Kirk, Noah Silver, Joely Fisher and Stevie Lynn Jones. The movie is based on Joy Nicholson’s YA novel and follows two teenagers who move to the beach community of Palos Verdes with their parents as their mother teeters on the brink of a nervous breakdown.

Gustavo Santaolalla Scoring Thierry Klifa’s ‘Tout nous sépare’
Gustavo Santaolalla is reteaming with director Thierry Klifa on the upcoming French drama Tout nous sépare. The film stars Catherine Deneuve, Diane Kruger, Nicolas Duvauchelle and Nekfeu. No plot details have been revealed yet. Klifa also co-wrote the screenplay with Cedric Anger (Next Time I’ll Aim for the Heart). François Kraus & Denis Pineau-Valencienne (L’ennemi intime), Maxime Delauney and Romain Rousseau are producing the project. Santaolalla (Brokeback Mountain, Babel, The Motorcycle Diaries) has previously scored Klifa’s last feature, My Mother’s Eyes.

Four new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the action thriller Jack Reacher: Never Go Back directed by Edward Zwick and starring Tom Cruise, Cobie Smulders, Aldis Hodge, Danika Yarosh, Patrick Heusinger, Holt McCallany and Robert Knepper. The film’s original music is composed by Henry Jackman (Captain America: Civil War, X-Men: First Class, Big Hero 6, Captain Phillips). ‘Before the Flood’ Soundtrack Announced
Lakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack album for the documentary Before the Flood. The album features the film’s original music composed by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross (The Social Network, Gone Girl, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Gustavo Santaolalla (Brokeback Mountain, Babel, 21 Grams) and Mogwai. The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 21, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A vinyl version is also in the works. Check out a track from the score after the jump. Before the Flood is directed by Fisher Stevens (The Cove) and chronicles Leonardo DiCaprio’s campaign to raise global awareness about the dangers of climate change in his role as a UN Ambassador of Peace.
Soundtrack Album for Netflix’s ‘Making a Murderer’ Announced
Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the Netflix original series Making a Murderer. The album features the show’s themes composed by Academy Award winner Gustavo Santaolalla (Brokeback Mountain, Babel, The Motorcycle Diaries, 21 Grams), as well as selections from the series’ original score composed by Kevin Kiner (CSI: Miami, Hell on Wheels, Jane the Virgin). The soundtrack will be released digitally on May 6, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also check out audio samples. Making a Murderer is written and directed by Laura Ricciardi & Moira Demos and explores the story of Steven Avery, who spent 18 years in prison for rape and was freed after DNA linked another man to the crime.

Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the comedy sequel Hot Tub Time Machine 2 directed by Steve Pink and starring Rob Corddry, Craig Robinsoin, Clark Duke, Adam Scott and Gillian Jacobs. The film’s original music is composed by Christophe Beck (Frozen, The Hangover, Edge of Tomorrow, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) who previously scored the first part in the series. No soundtrack album has been announced. Hot Tub Time Machine 2 follows Lou, Nick and Jacob who inadvertently land in the future with Adam Jr. and have to alter the future in order to save the past. Also opening wide is the sports drama McFarland, USA directed by Niki Caro and starring Kevin Costner, Maria Bello, Morgan Saylor, Martha Higareda, Michael Aguero, Sergio Avelar, Hector Duran, Rafael Martinez, Johnny Ortiz and Carlos Pratts. Antonio Pinto (City of God, Senna, Lord of War, Snitch) has composed the film’s original score. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as the original end title song Juntos (Together) performed by Juanes. ‘Wild Tales’ Soundtrack Details
Quartet Records has announced a soundtrack album for the Argentinian comedy thriller Wild Tales (Relatos Salvajes). The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Gustavo Santaolalla (Brokeback Mountain, Babel, The Motorcycle Diaries). Also included are songs by Giorgio Moroder, Lucien Belmond, Bobby Womack and David Guetta. The soundtrack will be released in the U.S. on February 17, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips are embedded below. Wild Tales is written and directed by Damian Szifro and stars Ricardo Darin, Oscar Martinez, Leonardo Sbaraglia, Erica Rivas, Rita Cortese, Julieta Zylberberg and Dario Grandinetti. The movie produced by Pedro Almodovar is comprised of six separate stories and is one of the frontrunners to be nominated in the Best Foreign Language Film category at this season’s Academy Awards.

Sony Classical will release a score album for the animated feature The Book of Life. The album features the film’s original music written by Academy Award-winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla (Brokeback Mountain, Babel, Amores Perros, On the Road). The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 21, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips will be added to this article within the next couple of days. As previously reported, the label has already released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film, as well as selections from the score. The Book of Life is directed by Jorge Gutierrez, produced by Guillermo del Toro and features the voices of Channing Tatum, Zoë Saldana, Diego Luna, Ice Cube, Christina Applegate, Danny Trejo, Ron Perlman, Cheech Marin, Kate del Castillo and Eugenio Derbez.
