James Levine is scoring the new TNT crime drama Major Crimes. The show is a spin-off of the hit procedural The Closer, which will air its series finale next Monday, August 13. The series stars Mary McDonnell, G. W. Bailey, Tony Denison, Michael Paul Chan, Raymond Cruz and Phillip P. Keene who are all reprising their roles from The Closer. They are joined by new cast members Kearran Giovanni and Graham Patrick Martin. James Duff, Michael M. Robin, Rick Wallace and Greer Shephard are executive producing the show. Levine whose TV scoring credits include such hit shows as Glee, Nip/Tuck, Damages, Rizzoli & Isles and American Horror Story has written the music for all seven seasons of The Closer.

Fall 2011 Television Music Roundup (Part 6): Cable
In our sixth and final part of our fall television series, we are taking a look at the major new shows on the cable networks:
One of this fall’s most talked about new shows is American Horror Story created by Ryan Murphy & Brad Falchuk and starring Dylan McDermott, Connie Britton, Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Taissa Farmiga and Denis O’Hare. The series has recently received two Golden Globe nominations for Best TV Drama and for Lange’s performance. The show’s score is composed by James Levine who has worked on most of Murphy’s projects in the last decade, including Nip/Tuck, Glee and the feature film Running with Scissors. The drama has also been using a lot of pre-existing score music from composers such as Bernard Herrmann and Alan Silvestri. TNT:
The most successful new show of the summer on TNT is the sci-fi series Falling Skies. The project starring Noah Wyle, Moon Bloodgood, Drew Roy, Sarah Carter and Maxim Knight is produced by Steven Spielberg and centers on an alien invasion of Earth and the resistance formed by the survivor. Also producing are Graham Yost (Justified) and Robert Rodat (writer of Saving Private Ryan). Noah Sorota is scoring the show. 2011 Summer Television Music Roundup (Part 2)

FX:
The only new show this summer on FX is the comedy Wilfred. The show stars Elijah Wood as a depressed and unemployed worker who imagines seeing a man in a dog costume. Jason Gann and Fiona Gubelmann are co-starring and guest stars include Ed Helms, Chris Klein and Rashida Jones. Jim Dooley (Pushing Daisies, Obsessed) is providing the score for the show. Wilfred is based on an Australian series with the same title and is adapted by David Zuckerman (Family Guy, American Dad). Randall Einhorn (The Office, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) directed the pilot. The show’s first season of 13 episodes is currently airing every Thursday night on FX.

ABC:
Airing every Tuesday night on the network is the drama Combat Hospital. The show centers on a group of doctors and nurses from Canada, the U.S., the U.K. and other allied countries saving lives and limbs in a war zone military hospital modeled on a real facility in Afghanistan. Deborah Kara Unger, Michelle Borth, Elias Koteas, Terry Chen, Arnold Pinnock and Luke Mably are starring. The show’s music is composed by Edmund Butt (The Dark, Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes) and additional music is written by Samuel Sim (The Deep).
