Hans Zimmer has been tapped to score the upcoming superhero movie X-Men: Dark Phoenix. The film marks the directorial debut of writer/producer Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Martian, Deadpool) and stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters and Jessica Chastain. Kinberg is also producing the project with Bryan Singer (X-Men, The Usual Suspects), Hutch Parker & Lauren Shuler Donner (Logan).

Premiering on Tuesday, January 16, is the new CW drama Black Lightning developed by Samil Akil & Mara Brock Akil based on the DC comic books character created by Tony Isabella & Trevor Von Eeden and starring Cress Williams, Nafessa Williams, China Anne McClain and Christine Adams. The show’s original music is composed by Kurt Farquhar (The King of Queens, Moesha, The Perfect Game, Stitchers). Mac Quayle (Mr. Robot, American Horror Story, Scream Queens) who previously scored the first American Crime Story season The People v. O.J. Simpson has composed the show’s original music. Hans Zimmer Scoring Don Argott’s ‘Believer’
Hans Zimmer has been tapped to score the upcoming documentary Believer. The film is directed by Don Argott (Last Days Here, The Art of the Steal) and follows Imagine Dragons’ Mormon frontman Dan Reynolds as he is taking on a new mission to explore how the church treats its LGBTQ members with the rising suicide rate amongst teens in the state of Utah. Reynolds is also contributing two original songs to the movie. Heather Parry (Just Go With It, Gaga: Five Foot Two), Sheena M. Joyce (Batman & Bill) and Robert Reynolds are producing the project.
Hans Zimmer to Score ‘The Lion King’ Remake
Walt Disney Pictures confirmed today that Hans Zimmer will be returning to score the studio’s upcoming remake of The Lion King. The film is directed by Jon Favreau (The Jungle Book, Iron Man) and stars Donald Glover, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, James Earl Jones, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, JD McCrary, Shahadi Wright Joseph, John Kani, John Oliver, Seth Rosen, Billy Eichner and Keegan-Michael Key. Jeff Nathanson (Catch Me If You Can) penned the screenplay. Favreau is also producing the project with Jeffrey Silver (Beauty and the Beast) and Karen Gilchrist.
‘Blue Planet II’ Soundtrack Announced
Silva Screen Records has announced a soundtrack album for the natural history docu-series Blue Planet II. The album features the show’s original music composed by Hans Zimmer (Gladiator, The Dark Knight, The Lion King, Inception), Jacob Shea (Planet Earth II) and David Fleming (The Perfect Guy) for Bleeding Fingers Music. The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 29, 2017 (click here to download) and physically on December 1. Blue Planet II presented and narrated by David Attenborough, which is a sequel to the 2001 series Blue Planet, explores the underwater worlds, and was filmed over 4 years with 125 expeditions across 39 countries and 6000 hours of underwater filming.

Bleeding Fingers Music Taking Over Scoring Duties on ‘The Simpsons’
The music production house Bleeding Fingers Music has taken over scoring duties on the Fox animated series The Simpsons. Hans Zimmer and Russell Emanuel serve as score producers and Steven Kofsky is credited as the score executive producer. The composers are replacing Alf Clausen who has scored most of the episodes of the previous 28 seasons of the series. Danny Elfman’s main titles theme for the show is still being used. Zimmer has previously scored 2007’s The Simpsons Movie.

Andrew Kawczynski Scoring ‘Sky Hunter’
Andrew Kawczynski has recently recorded his music for the upcoming Chinese war action drama Sky Hunter. Hans Zimmer serves as the score producer. The film marks the directorial debut of actor Li Chen who also stars in the movie alongside Fan Bingbing, Wang Qianyuan, Li Jiahang and Leon Lee. The movie follows an elite air force who are called into action to resolve a hostage crisis and foil a terrorist plot. Jianmin Lv (Wolf Warrior) is producing the project. Kawczynski has previously contributed additional music to numerous scores by Zimmer, including Man of Steel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Chappie.
