The details of the first soundtrack album from Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King have been revealed. The album features the film’s original songs written by Grammy Award & Tony Award winner and Academy Award nominee Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, Moana, In the Heights, Encanto) and performed by voice cast members including Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Anika Noni Rose, Keith David, Tiffany Boone, Mads Mikkelsen, Preston Nyman, Kagiso Lediga, Braelyn Rankins and Theo Somolu. Also included is a track performed by Lebo M who provided additional music and performances to the project. The soundtrack will be released on December 13 by Walt Disney Records. A separate “deluxe edtion” album featuring the songs and the film’s original score composed by Dave Metzger is also expected to come out this month. Barry Jenkins’ ‘The Lion King’ Prequel to Feature Music by Hans Zimmer, Pharrell Williams & Nicholas Britell
Disney announced today that Hans Zimmer, Pharrell Williams and Nicholas Britell will provide the music for studios’ upcoming The Lion King prequel. The film will be directed by Barry Jenkins and will use the same photo-realistic technology from last year’s remake directed by Jon Favreau. No casting announcements have been made yet. Zimmer has previously scored the original 1994 animated The Lion King film, as well as last year’s remake and Williams produced several songs from the 2019 movie.

The only movie opening nationwide this week is Disney’s The Lion King remake directed by Jon Favreau and starring Donald Glover, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, James Earl Jones, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, JD McCrary, Shahadi Wright Joseph, John Oliver, Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner. The film’s original score is composed by Hans Zimmer (Gladiator, The Dark Knight) who also serves as the executive music producer on the project. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the movie’s songs written by Elton John & Tim Rice (including a new song), as well as an original song by Beyoncé. Opening in limited release is the documentary David Crosby: Remember My Name directed by A.J. Eaton and produced by Cameron Crowe. Marcus Eaton and Bill Laurance have composed the film’s original score. No word on a soundtrack release. The movie follows the singer-songwriter as he confronts mortality and assesses all the damage of earlier days. The documentary premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is being released by Sony Pictures Classics. Visit the official movie website for more information.
Beyoncé’s Original Song ‘Spirit’ from ‘The Lion King’ Released
Walt Disney Records has released the original song Spirit from Jon Favreau’s The Lion King. The track is performed by Beyoncé and co-written by herself, Timothy McKenzie & Ilya Salmanzadeh. The song is now available to download as a digital single on Amazon. Also listen to the full track after the jump. Spirit is also featured as the previously listed “TBA” track 14 on the movie’s official soundtrack album, which also features the songs by Elton John & Tim Rice and the score by Hans Zimmer and which will be released digitally this Thursday, July 11. Beyoncé will also release a new album The Lion King: The Gift featuring Spirit, as well as other songs inspired by the movie on July 19.
Soundtrack Album for Jon Favreau’s ‘The Lion King’ Announced
Walt Disney Records has announced the official soundtrack album for Jon Favreau’s The Lion King. The album features features new recordings of the original songs written by Elton John and Tim Rice for the 1994 animated classic, the score by Hans Zimmer (Gladiator, Inception, The Dark Knight) who received his first Academy Award for the animated movie, plus African vocal and choir arrangements by Grammy-winning South African producer and composer Lebo M. Also included Pharrell Williams produced five songs on the soundtrack. Also included is the John- & Rice-written original song Never Too Late performed by John, that features an African choir and will appear in the film’s end credits. Hans Zimmer to Score ‘The Lion King’ Remake
Walt Disney Pictures confirmed today that Hans Zimmer will be returning to score the studio’s upcoming remake of The Lion King. The film is directed by Jon Favreau (The Jungle Book, Iron Man) and stars Donald Glover, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, James Earl Jones, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, JD McCrary, Shahadi Wright Joseph, John Kani, John Oliver, Seth Rosen, Billy Eichner and Keegan-Michael Key. Jeff Nathanson (Catch Me If You Can) penned the screenplay. Favreau is also producing the project with Jeffrey Silver (Beauty and the Beast) and Karen Gilchrist.
Expanded ‘The Lion King’ Soundtrack Announced
Walt Disney Records has announced a new line of CDs, The Legacy Collection,which will celebrate the anniversaries of a number of Disney classics. The first release is for the 1994 animated feature The Lion King, which coincides with the 20th anniversary of the movie’s release. The album features the songs from the film composed by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice, as well as the film’s original score composed by Hans Zimmer, including 30 minutes of previously unreleased music and demo cues. John and Rice received an Academy Award for their original song Can You Feel the Love Tonight? and Zimmer won his first and only Oscar for his score. The soundtrack will be released on June 24, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Lion King directed by Roger Allers & Rob Minkoff is now also available on Blu-ray and DVD.

Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the action thriller Drive directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and starring Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Christina Hendricks, Albert Brooks, Bryan Cranston, Ron Perlman and Oscar Isaacs. The film’s score is written by Cliff Martinez. A soundtrack featuring the composer’s score, as well as several songs from the movie has been released on Lakeshore Records. The movie’s score is composed by Lurie’s regular musical collaborator Larry Groupé. Madison Gate has released a soundtrack featuring Groupé’s score.
