Lakeshore Records has announced a new version of the soundtrack album for the 2011 action drama Drive directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and starring Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Albert Brooks, Christina Hendricks, Bryan Cranston, Ron Perlman and Oscar Isaacs. The 15th Anniversary Edition featuring the film’s original score composed by Cliff Martinez (Traffic, The Neon Demon, The Lincoln Lawyer, Sex, Lies and Videotape, Only God Forgives) and the songs from the movie by Kavinsky & Lovefoxx, Desire, The Chromatics, College feat. Electric Youth and Riz Ortolani & Rina Ranieri, is being released on “Driver’s Jacket Gold Splatter/Clear Vinyl.” The double LP will be released on September 18 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The label has also announced a reissue of the 5th Anniversary and 10th Anniversary vinyl editions, which are both also available for pre-order.

Notable Omissions among the Academy Awards’ Original Score Finalists
As announced last Thursday, 97 movies are eligible for nominations in the Original Score category for the 84th Academy Awards. Not included were a couple of scores that have been considered possible contenders. The two most notable omissions from the Academy’s finalists list are Drive and My Week with Marilyn, which both were disqualified for different reasons.
The score for Nicolas Winding-Refn’s Drive composed by Cliff Martinez has received the Boston Society of Film Critics‘ Best Use of Music in Film prize (tied with Ludovic Bource’s score for The Artist), the runner-up award by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, as well as nominations from the Broadcast Film Critics Association and the Washington DC Area and London Critics Film Circle. As reported in Variety, the score was disqualified by the Academy because a number of songs were playing at key dramatic points during the film instead of the score, and two other composers were listed on the official studio cue sheet in addition to Martinez.

The movie’s score is composed by Lurie’s regular musical collaborator Larry Groupé. Madison Gate has released a soundtrack featuring Groupé’s score. Cliff Martinez Scoring ‘Drive’
Cliff Martinez has signed on to score the upcoming action thriller Drive. The film based on James Sallis’ crime novel of the same name and adapted for the screen by Hossein Amini (the Wings of the Dove, The Four Feathers) revolves around a Hollywood stunt drive who moonlights as a getaway driver in L.A.’s criminal underworld. He finds himself a target after agreeing to aid the ex-con boyfriend of his beautiful neighbor in a job that goes dangerously awry. The movie stars Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Christina Hendricks, Albert Brooks, Bryan Cranston, Ron Perlman and Oscar Isaacs. Drive is directed by Nicolas Winding Refn who is best known for directing the Pusher trilogy and 2008’s action biopic Bronson. FilmDistrict is planning to release the film on September 16, 2011.
