Mercury Records has released the original song Never Too Late from the Disney+ original documentary Elton John: Never Too Late. The track written and performed by Elton John & Brandi Carlile is now available to stream/download on all major digital music services, including Amazon. Cutler & David Furnish and follows the Grammy Award and Academy Award-winning artist as he looks back on his life and forward to a climactic farewell show at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium.

Hildur Guðnadóttir Wins Academy Award for ‘Joker’
Hildur Guðnadóttir was honored with her first Academy Award for her score for Todd Phillips’ Joker at tonight’s 92nd Oscar ceremony. The composer who previously received a Golden Globe and a Critics’ Choice Award for her work on the film was also nominated the first time. Check out her acceptance speech after the jump. The other nominated composers in the Best Original Score category were Thomas Newman (1917), Alexandre Desplat (Little Women), Randy Newman (Marriage Story) and John Williams (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker).
Cynthia Erivo, Elton John, Idina Menzel, Chrissy Metz & Randy Newman to Perform at Academy Awards
Academy Awards show producers Lynette Howell Taylor and Stephanie Allain announced today that Cynthia Erivo will be performing the original song Stand Up from Harriet, which she co-wrote with Joshuah Brian Campbell, at this year’s Academy Awards ceremony. Elton John will perform (I’m Gonna) Love Me Again (co-written by the singer/songwriter and Bernie Taupin) from Rocketman, Idina Menzel will perform the Kristen Anderson-Lopez -& Robert Lopez-penned song Into the Unknown from Frozen II, Chrissy Metz will perform the Diane Warren-written song I’m Standing with You from Breakthrough and Oscar winner Randy Newman will perform his song I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away from Pixar’s Toy Story 4.
Hildur Gudnadottir Wins Golden Globe for ‘Joker’
Hildur Gudnadottir has received her first Golden Globe Award in the Original Score category for Todd Phillips’ Joker. The other composers nominated in the Best Original Score category were Randy Newman (Marriage Story), Thomas Newman (1917r), Alexandre Desplat (Little Women) and Daniel Pemberton (Motherless Brooklyn). ‘Rocketman: Live in Concert’ Event Announced
Endeavor Content and Black Ink Presents have announced a one-night only performance of Paramount Pictures’ Rocketman: Live in Concert on October 17, 2019 at the historic Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. The event will feature the Hollywood Symphony Orchestra playing live-to-picture all the songs from the film during a special screening of the biographical musical drama Rocketman. The film’s subject, Elton John, and Taron Egerton, who portrayed John in the movie, will join the orchestra for a special performance. John Beal will conduct the Hollywood Symphony Orchestra.
Soundtrack Album for Jon Favreau’s ‘The Lion King’ Announced
Walt Disney Records has announced the official soundtrack album for Jon Favreau’s The Lion King. The album features features new recordings of the original songs written by Elton John and Tim Rice for the 1994 animated classic, the score by Hans Zimmer (Gladiator, Inception, The Dark Knight) who received his first Academy Award for the animated movie, plus African vocal and choir arrangements by Grammy-winning South African producer and composer Lebo M. Also included Pharrell Williams produced five songs on the soundtrack. Also included is the John- & Rice-written original song Never Too Late performed by John, that features an African choir and will appear in the film’s end credits. ‘Rocketman’ Soundtrack Album Announced
Interscope Records will release the official soundtrack album for the biographical drama Rocketman. The album features the classic Elton John songs from the movie performed by lead actor Targon Egerton who stars as the singer/songwriter, as well as other cast members. Also included is the original song (I’m Gonna) Love Me Again written by John & Bernie Taupin and performed by John & Egerton. The soundtrack will be released on May 24 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon (CD version) and here (digital version) Check out the music video for a track, Rocket Man, after the jump. Rocketman is directed by Dexter Fletcher and also stars Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, Gemma Jones and Bryce Dallas Howard. The musical drama will be released in theaters nationwide on May 31 by Paramount Pictures.
‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ Film Adaptation to Feature New Songs by Andrew Lloyd Webber & Tim Rice
STX Entertainment announced today during the studio’s presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas that Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice are writing new songs for an upcoming film adaptation of the stage musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Also on board the project is Elton John who is producing the project for his Rocket Pictures company. The movie tells the biblical story of Joseph, the favorite son of Jacob, who is sold into slavery by his jealous siblings.
Expanded ‘The Lion King’ Soundtrack Announced
Walt Disney Records has announced a new line of CDs, The Legacy Collection,which will celebrate the anniversaries of a number of Disney classics. The first release is for the 1994 animated feature The Lion King, which coincides with the 20th anniversary of the movie’s release. The album features the songs from the film composed by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice, as well as the film’s original score composed by Hans Zimmer, including 30 minutes of previously unreleased music and demo cues. John and Rice received an Academy Award for their original song Can You Feel the Love Tonight? and Zimmer won his first and only Oscar for his score. The soundtrack will be released on June 24, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Lion King directed by Roger Allers & Rob Minkoff is now also available on Blu-ray and DVD.

Four new movies are opening in wide release today:
Just Go With It directed by Dennis Dugan and starring Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman features a score by Rupert Gregson-Williams. No soundtrack album has been announced and judging from the release status of Gregson-Williams’ previous work for Adam Sandler/Happy Madison-produced films (with the exception of Bedtime Stories), the score will most likely remain unreleased.
Also opening wide is the animation musical Gnomeo & Juliet, which features songs by Elton John and a score by James Newton Howard and Chris Bacon. As reported last December, a soundtrack album including Elton John’s songs and four cues from the original score are has been released this Tuesday.
