Hildur Guðnadóttir was honored with her first Academy Award for her score for Todd Phillips’ Joker at tonight’s 92nd Oscar ceremony. The composer who previously received a Golden Globe and a Critics’ Choice Award for her work on the film was also nominated the first time. Check out her acceptance speech after the jump. The other nominated composers in the Best Original Score category were Thomas Newman (1917), Alexandre Desplat (Little Women), Randy Newman (Marriage Story) and John Williams (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker).

Hildur Gudnadottir Wins Golden Globe for ‘Joker’
Hildur Gudnadottir has received her first Golden Globe Award in the Original Score category for Todd Phillips’ Joker. The other composers nominated in the Best Original Score category were Randy Newman (Marriage Story), Thomas Newman (1917r), Alexandre Desplat (Little Women) and Daniel Pemberton (Motherless Brooklyn). ‘Rocketman: Live in Concert’ Event Announced
Endeavor Content and Black Ink Presents have announced a one-night only performance of Paramount Pictures’ Rocketman: Live in Concert on October 17, 2019 at the historic Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. The event will feature the Hollywood Symphony Orchestra playing live-to-picture all the songs from the film during a special screening of the biographical musical drama Rocketman. The film’s subject, Elton John, and Taron Egerton, who portrayed John in the movie, will join the orchestra for a special performance. John Beal will conduct the Hollywood Symphony Orchestra.

Three new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this week:
Opening in most theaters is the monster movie Godzilla: King of the Monsters directed by Mike Dougherty and starring Vera Farmiga, Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins, Kyle Chandler and Millie Bobby Brown. The film’s original music is composed by Bear McCreary (10 Cloverfield Lane, The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica, Outlander). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening wide is the biographical musical drama Rocketman directed by Dexter Fletcher and starring Taron Egerton, Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, Gemma Jones and Bryce Dallas Howard. Matthew Margeson (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Eddie the Eagle) has composed the film’s original score. Interscope Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the Elton John songs featured in the movie performed by Egerton, as well as an original song performed by John & Egerton. ‘Rocketman’ Soundtrack Album Announced
Interscope Records will release the official soundtrack album for the biographical drama Rocketman. The album features the classic Elton John songs from the movie performed by lead actor Targon Egerton who stars as the singer/songwriter, as well as other cast members. Also included is the original song (I’m Gonna) Love Me Again written by John & Bernie Taupin and performed by John & Egerton. The soundtrack will be released on May 24 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon (CD version) and here (digital version) Check out the music video for a track, Rocket Man, after the jump. Matthew Margeson to Reunite with Dexter Fletcher’s on Elton John Biopic ‘Rocketman’
Composer Matthew Margeson is reuniting with director Dexter Fletcher on the upcoming biographical drama Rocketman. The film stars Taron Egerton as Elton John, Jamie Bell as Bernie Taupin, Richard Madden and music manager John Reid, as well as Bryce Dallas Howard as John’s mother. The movie explores John’s emergence as a prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music to becoming a music superstar and his partnership with songwriting collaborator Taupin. Lee Hall (War Horse, Billy Elliot) wrote the screenplay.
