Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe have announced the winners in the Show Us Your Musical Genius competition. The challenge, presented by NatGeo, Fox 21, Milan Records and hosted by indi.com, had contestants submit their rendition of Zimmer and Balfe’s Emmy-nominated main title theme for the NatGeo TV series Genius. Zimmer & Balfe’s prize winner is entitled Pipe Dream created by Henrik Lindström and Normann Bjorvand from Sweden (click here to check out the video). The Buzz winner is What is Time by Nick Nußbickel from Germany (watch the video here). Top prize winners of the musical challenge are invited to a Hans Zimmer or Lorne Balfe recording session in London or Los Angeles.

Hans Zimmer & Lorne Balfe are hosting a competition for the music community entitled, “Show us your Musical Genius!” Participants will submit their rendition or interpretation of the composers’ Emmy Award-nominated theme from the NatGeo original series Genius executive produced by Ron Howard, Brian Grazer & Ken Biller and starring Geoffrey Rush & Johnny Flynn and blue ribbon judges along with Zimmer and Balfe will pick the winners. Top prize winners of the musical challenge will be invited to a Zimmer or Balfe recording session in London or Los Angeles.
‘Blade Runner 2049’ to Feature Music by Hans Zimmer
Hans Zimmer is currently scoring Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049. While we first heard of the composer’s involvement in the project back in May, Villeneuve clarified in a recent interview with Studio Cine Live that the composer is collaborating with Benjamin Wallfisch on the score and the theme written for the movie by the film’s original composer Johann Johannsson who is still involved in the project will be used in the score. The sci-fi thriller starring Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, Dave Bautista and Jared Leto takes place thirty years after the events of the first film and follows a new blade runner who unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. Hampton Fancher and Michael Green (Green Lantern) have written the screenplay.

Two new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the animated feature The Emoji Movie directed by Tony Leondis and featuring the voices of T.J. Miller, Anna Faris, James Corden, Patrick Stewart, Maya Rudolph, Sofia Vergara and Christina Aguilera. The film’s original music is composed by Patrick Doyle (Brave, Cinderella, Thor, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire). Premiering tonight is the new Lifetime original series Mary Kills People created by Tara Armstrong and starring Caroline Dhavernas, Jay Ryan, Richard Short, Lyriq Bent, Greg Bryk and Charlotte Sullivan. The show’s original music is composed by John Rowley (Defendor, Weirdsville). Mary Kills People centers on a single mother who is an ER doctor by day, but by night, she and her partner, a former plastic surgeon, moonlight as underground angels of death and help terminally ill patients slip away on their own terms. Premiering on Tuesday, April 25, is National Geographic’s first scripted series Genius executive produced by Brian Grazer & Ron Howard and starring Geoffrey Rush, Johnny Flynn, Emily Watson, Nicholas Rowe, Samantha Colley, Jon Fletcher, Richard Topol and Alicia von Rittberg. Milan Records will release a soundtrack EP for the show this Friday, April 28 and a full soundtrack album is in the works for a release later this year. Soundrack EP for National Geographic’s ‘Genius’ To Be Released
Milan Records will release an EP for the Nat Geo’s first scripted series, Genius. The album features the show’s main title theme written by Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight, Gladiator, The Lion King, Inception) and selections from the show’s original music composed by Lorne Balfe (The LEGO Batman Movie, Home, Terminator Genisys, Ghost in the Shell). Also included are three classical pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Genius is executive produced by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard (who also directed the first episode) and stars Geoffrey Rush, Johnny Flynn, Emily Watson, Nicholas Rowe, Samantha Colley, Jon Fletcher, Richard Topol and Alicia von Rittberg. The show’s first season follows the life of Albert Einstein, from his early years as a patent clerk, to his later years as a physicist who developed the theory of relativity.
