BBC announced today that Hans Zimmer (The Lion King, Dune, The Dark Knight, Inception), Jacob Shea (Seven Worlds One Planet, Blue Planet II), Sara Barone (Grimcutty), producer Russell Emanuel (of Bleeding Fingers Music) and Bastille’s Dan Smith have collaborated to create the score for the upcoming nature documentary series Planet Earth III. Smith’s vocals will also be featured on the show’s opening title theme song, as well as within all episodes of the series and a reworking of Bastille’s single, Pompeii entitled Pompeii MMXXIII, plays during the project’s end credits. A first track (entitled Mother Nature) created and performed by Zimmer, singer/songwriter RAYE and Bastille, in collaboration with composer collective Bleeding Fingers Music, can be heard in the first teaser trailer (embedded below).

National Geographic’s ‘The Real Right Stuff’ to Feature Original Score by James Everingham
Disney+ announced this week that National Geographic’s upcoming documentary The Real Right Stuff will feature an original score composed by James Everingham (Heroes, Grand Prix Driver) for Bleeding Fingers Music and produced by Hans Zimmer & Russell Emanuel. The composer’s orchestral score was recorded remotely by a socially distant 44-piece orchestra this past May. The movie is directed by Tom Jennings (Challenger Disaster: Lost Tapes) and tells the true story of the nation’s first astronauts, the original Mercury 7. Jennings is also executive producing the 1895 Films production with Simon Raikes (Drain the Oceans).

Premiering tomorrow, May 25, is the National Geographic limited series Barkskins created by Elwood Reid and starring David Thewlis, Marcia Gay Harden, Aneurin Barnard, James Bloor, Christian Cooke, David Wilmot, Thomas M. Wright, Tallulah Haddon, Kaniehtiio Horn, Lily Sullivan and Zahn McClarnon. The show’s original music is composed by Colin Stetson (Hereditary, Color Out of Space, The First). Also premiering tomorrow is the History docu-series Grant directed by Malcolm Venville and executive produced by Ron Chernow, Jennifer Davisson and Leonardo DiCaprio. The 3-parter examines Grant’s life story using his perspective and experiences to explore a turbulent time in history: the Civil War and Reconstruction. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album for the National Geographic documentary Apollo: Missions to the Moon. The album features the film’s original music composed by James Everingham for Bleeding Fingers Music and produced by Hans Zimmer & Russell Emanuel. Apollo: Missions to the Moon is directed by Tom Jennings (Challenger Disaster: Lost Tapes, Diana: In Her Own Words) and recounts the United States’ remarkable journey to land on the Moon before 1970. The movie covers the Apollo Space Program with raw media, eschewing narration for footage and audio of the program, including samples of never-before-audio pulled from over 800 hours of recordings and Apollo black box recordings.
Bleeding Fingers Music Taking Over Scoring Duties on ‘The Simpsons’
The music production house Bleeding Fingers Music has taken over scoring duties on the Fox animated series The Simpsons. Hans Zimmer and Russell Emanuel serve as score producers and Steven Kofsky is credited as the score executive producer. The composers are replacing Alf Clausen who has scored most of the episodes of the previous 28 seasons of the series. Danny Elfman’s main titles theme for the show is still being used. Zimmer has previously scored 2007’s The Simpsons Movie.
