Yesterday, Lalo Schifrin was honored with an Honorary Academy Award at the 10th Governors Awards at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland Center. The composer whose scoring credits include Mission: Impossible, The Cincinnati Kid, Enter the Dragon, Cool Hand Luke, Bullit, The Amityville Horror and Rush Hour was introduced by actress Kathy Bates (who starred in Schifrin-scored The Bridge of San Rey) and Clint Eastwood who collaborated with Schifrin on eight movies including Dirty Harry, Sudden Impact and The Deal Pool. A soundtrack album has been released for the French romantic drama An Impossible Love (Un amour impossible). The album features the film’s original music composed by Gregoire Hetzel (Incendies, Ismael’s Ghosts, Summertime, My Golden Days, The Tree). Also included are two songs by Caloé. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also check out the full track list and listen to audio samples. An Impossible Love is co-written and directed by Catherine Corsini and stars Virginie Efira, Niels Schneider and Jehnny Beth. The show’s original music is composed by Edward Shearmur (Charlie’s Angels, Cruel Intentions, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Johnny English). ‘Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge’ to Feature New Music by John Williams

John Williams has composed new music for the Star Wars-themed land of Galaxy’s Edge, which will be opening at the Disney’s theme parks in Anaheim, California, and Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida next year. The music was recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios, and was conducted by William Ross (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets). Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the fantasy adventure Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald directed by David Yates and starring Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Jude Law, Johnny Depp, Zoë Kravitz and Callum Turner. The film’s original music is composed by James Newton Howard (The Hunger Games, King Kong, Maleficent, The Sixth Sense). Also opening wide is the crime thriller Widows directed by Steve McQueen and starring Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki, Cynthia Erivo, Colin Farrell, Brian Tyree Henry, Daniel Kaluuya, Garret Dillahunt, Carrie Coon, Jacki Weaver, Robert Duvall and Liam Neeson. The album features the Motown hits from the show covered by artists including Ne-Yo, Becky G, BJ the Chicago Kid, Calum Scott, Skylar Grey, Trombone Shorty, as well as Smokey Robinson who serves as the project’s executive music producer. The show directed by Louis Leterrier (Now You See Me, The Incredible Hulk) is a prequel to the classic 1982 feature (scored by Trevor Jones), and follows three young Gelflings as they inspire a rebellion against the cruel emperor when they discover a horrifying secret. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album for the comedy drama Green Book. The album features the film’s original music composed by Kris Bowers (Dear White People, For the People, Of Monsters and Men).
