2020 World Soundtrack Awards Nominations Announced

The World Soundtrack Academy has announced the nominees for the 2020 World Soundtrack Awards in all categories , including Film Composer of the Year, TV Composer of the Year and Best Original Song Written Directly for a Film. The winners will be announced at the 20th anniversary edition of the World Soundtrack Awards, which will be be an online edition, live-streamed from Kinepolis Ghent on October 24, 2020. Among the previously announced guests at the ceremony are Alexandre Desplat, record holder of the World Soundtrack Film Composer of the Year Award, Gabriel Yared, who will receive a Lifetime Achievement, and Michael Abels, Discovery of the Year 2019. Earth Recordings has released the first-ever soundtrack album for Dennis Hopper’s 1971 drama The Last Movie directed and edited by Hopper, written by Stewart Stern and starring Peter Fonda, Dean Stockwell, Stella Garcia, Don Gordon,, Julie Adams, Sylvia Miles, Samuel Fuller, Russ Tamblyn, Tomas Milian, Toni Basil, Severn Darden, Henry Jaglom, Rod Cameron and Michelle Phillips. The album features the world premiere release of the Me and Bobby McGee performance by Kris Kristofferson (who also appears in the film), the country-folk songs from John Buck Wilkin, as well as the Peruvian folk & dance music from the movie. Oli Julian (Sex Education, Catastrophe, How to Build a Girl, EpisodesPlebs) is the composer of the new Netflix original series The Duchess. The show is created by Katherine Ryan and stars Ryan herself, Rory Keenan, Katy Byrne, Steen Raskopolous, Michelle de Swarte and Sophie Fletcher. The comedy follows a disruptive single mom living in London as she is trying to juggle her career, her tween daughter, her relationship with her boyfriend – and pondering getting pregnant with her ex. Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the horror movie Z. The album features the film’s original score composed by Brittany Allen (What Keeps You Alive). The soundtrack will be released digitally next Friday, September 18 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Z is co-written and directed by Brandon Christensen (Still/Born) and stars Keegan Connor Tracy, Jett Klyne, Sean Rogerson, Sara Canning and Stephen McHattie. Rent-A-Pal is written and directed by Jon Stevenson and stars Wil Wheaton, Brian Landis Folkins, Amy Rutledge and Kathleen Brady. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album for Lucasfilm’s game show Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge. The album features the original music from the show composed by Gordy Haab (Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Star Wars: Battlefront, Halo Wars 2). The soundtrack is now available to stream/download on Amazon and other digital music stores. Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge is created by Steve Blank & Scott Bromley, hosted by Ahmed Best and features a group of young contestants as they face tests of ability in the core Jedi principles of strength, knowledge, and bravery while facing obstacles in an attempt to achieve the rank of Jedi Knight.

Composer H. Scott Salinas (The Ballad of Lefty Brown, The Banker, Warrior, Sea of Shadows) and songwriter/record producer Sky Rompiendo have contributed the original music to the upcoming documentary The Boy from Medellín. The film is directed by Matthew Heineman and follows Colombian reggaeton singer J Balvin as he prepares for his 2019 homecoming concert amid intense political turmoil.
