Tolu Music has released a soundtrack album for the New Zealand drama Tinā. The album features original recordings from St Francis Choir and LEAO recorded for the film, as well as music by the Choir of Western Samoa Teachers’ Training College. Tinā is written and directed by Miki Magasiva and stars Anapela Polataivao, Antonia Robinson, Beulah Koale, Nicole Whippy and Dalip Sondhi. The movie takes place in the wake of the Christchurch earthquake and follows a sassy Samoan mother as she mentors her newly formed school choir to The Big Sing final.

Premiering today is the the National Geographic event series Genius: Aretha created by Suzan-Lori Parks and starring Cynthia Erivo, Courtney B. Vance, Malcolm Barrett, Pauletta Washington, David Cross, Patrice Covington, Rebecca Naomi Jones and Steven Norfleet. The show’s original score is composed by Terence Blanchard (BlacKkKlansman, Inside Man, Da 5 Bloods, Malcolm X). Raphael Saadiq (Lovecraft County, Insecure) serves as the project’s executive music producer and Hans Zimmer & Lorne Balfe have provided a new version of their Emmy Award-nominated main titles theme. Premiering on Wednesday, March 24 is the HBO Sports documentary The Day Sports Stood Still directed by Antoine Fuqua and produced by Brian Grazer & Justin Wilkes about the unprecedented sports shutdown in March of 2020 and the remarkable turn of events that followed. Marcelo Zarvos (Fences, Wonder, Enough Said, The Affair, Ray Donovan, The Good Shepherd, The Loudest Voice) has composed the film’s original music. Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans (Ozark, Boy Erased, The Gift, Enemy, Martha Marcy May Marlene, The White Tiger, The Devil All the Time) have composed the original score for the new HBO original documentary Tina. The film is directed by Dan Lindsay & T.J. Martin (Undefeated) and centers on the life and career of musical icon Tina Turner. The movie, which features interviews with the singer herself, Angela Bassett, Oprah Winfrey, journalist Kurt Loder, playwright Katori Hall, hr husband and former record executive Erwin Bach, among others, a charts her improbable rise to early fame, her personal and professional struggles throughout her life and her even more improbable resurgence as a global phenomenon in the 1980s.
