Intrada Records has released a new soundtrack album for the 1985 sci-fi adventure Explorers directed by Joe Dante and starring Ethan Hawke, River Phoenix and Jason Presson. The album features the film’s expanded original score composed and conducted by Academy Award winner Jerry Goldsmith (The Omen, Chinatown, Planet of the Apes, Gremlins, Patton, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Basic Instinct, The Mummy, L.A. New Recording of Jerry Goldsmith’s ‘The Chairman’ Score Announced
Intrada Records has announced the release of the label’s new Kickstarter-funded recording of the score for the 1969 spy thriller The Chairman directed by J. Lee Thompson and starring Gregory Peck, Anne Heywood, Arthur Hill, Conrad Yama and Alan Dobie. The film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Jerry Goldsmith (The Omen, Chinatown, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Alien, The Mummy, Patton, Planet of the Apes, Basic Instinct) was newly recorded with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra under the baton of William T. Stromberg for the project. Also included is a suite of previously unreleased Goldsmith compositions, including the end title track to Rambo II, Alex’s Death from Under Fire, the film version of The Flag from Not Without My Daughter, Homer Writes from Lilies of the Field, as well as the demo the composer wrote for David Anspaugh’s 2005 feature The Game of Their Lives. Titles include 1972’s drama Pursuit directed by Michael Crichton and starring Ben Gazzara, Martin Sheen & E.G. Marshall, 1970’s horror thiller Crawlspace directed by John Newland & Buzz Kulik and starring Tom Happer, Arthur Kennedy & Teresa Wright and 1968’s The People Next Door (directed by David Greene), the opening installment of the second season of CBS Playhouse. The composer’s music for three films was newly recorded with the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Adam Klemens.

Varèse Sarabande and Craft Recordings have announced the first-ever vinyl release of the score for the 1999 supernatural horror movie The Haunting directed by Jan de Bont and starring Liam Neeson, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Owen Wilson and Lili Taylor. The 2-LP deluxe edition features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Academy Award winner Jerry Goldsmith (The Omen, Chinatown, Planet of the Apes, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Alien, Patton, Basic Instinct) and will be available on a pressed on a Black/Gold/Grey Marble vinyl in North America and n Translucent Green vinyl, with brand-new artwork. Both editions are packaged in a gatefold jacket, featuring brand-new cover illustrations from artist Sina Grace, liner notes and stills from the film. The soundtrack will be released on October 4 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon.
