Back Lot Music will release a soundtrack album for the biographical drama The Theory of Everything. The album features the film’s original music composed by Jóhann Jóhannsson (Prisoners, McCanick). The soundtrack will be released on November 4, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips will be posted on this page soon. The Theory of Everything is directed by James Marsh (Man on Wire, Shadow Dancer) and stars Eddie Redmayne as physicist Stephen Hawkins and Felicity Jones as Jane Wilde, the arts student he fell in love with when he attended Cambridge in the 1960s. Charlie Cox, Emily Watson, David Thewlis, Lesley Manville, Simon McBurney, Maxine Peake and Harry Lloyd are co-starring in the drama, which premiered at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

Two new movies are opening nationwide this week:
Already in theaters since Wednesday is the action thriller The November Man directed by Roger Donaldson and starring Pierce Brosnan, Luke Bracey, Olga Kurylenko, Eliza Taylor, Caterina Scorsone, Bill Smitrovich and Will Patton. Marco Beltrami (World War Z, Scream, The Wolverine, 3:10 to Yuma) has composed the film’s original music. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music digitally earlier this week. A CD version will be released on September 9. Opening nationwide today is the horror thriller As Above, So Below directed by John Erick Dowdle and starring Perdita Weeks, Ben Feldman, Edwin Hodge, Francois Civil, Marion Lambert, Ali Marhyar, Cosme Castro and Hamidreza Javdan. The film’s original music is composed by Keefus Ciancia (Nashville, Saving Grace, Diana, The Motel Life). No word on a soundtrack release. Jóhann Jóhannsson to Score Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Sicario’
Jóhann Jóhannsson is reteaming with director Denis Villeneuve (Incendies, Enemy) to score the upcoming crime drama Sicario. The film stars Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, Jon Bernthal and Jeffrey Donovan. The movie follows an officer from Tucson, Arizona who travels to Mexico with a pair of mercenaries to track down a drug lord. Actor Taylor Sheridan wrote the screenplay and Basil Iwanyk (The Town, Clash of the Titans) is producing the Black Label Media and Thunder Road Pictures production with Molly Smith (P.S. I Love You, Beautiful Creatures), Trent Luckinbill & Thad Luckinbill (The Good Lie) and Ed McDonnell (Three Kings, Insomnia). Academy Award nominee Roger Deakins (The Shawshank Redemption, No Country for Old Men, Skyfall) serves as the film’s director of photography.

Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the film adaptation of the young adult novel Divergent directed by Neil Burger and starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Aaron Eckhart, Miles Teller, Zoe Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Ray Stevenson, Jai Courtney, Ashley Judd and Maggie Q. Interscope Records has released a soundtrack for the film featuring the film’s songs, including tracks by by Ellie Goulding, Zedd, Pia Mia feat. Chance The Rapper. M83, Snow Patrol and Skrillex. (click here for the full album details). Junkie XL (300: Rise of an Empire) has composed the film’s original score. A soundtrack featuring the composer’s music is now available digitally and will be released on CD on April 15. Check out our previous article for the full album details.
Also opening wide is Disney’s Muppets Most Wanted directed by James Bobin and starring the Muppets characters, alongside Ricky Gervais, Ty Burrell and Tina Fey. Bret McKenzie has written the film’s original songs and Christophe Beck (Frozen, The Hangover) who also scored the 2011 Muppets feature has composed the film’s score. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film performed by the film’s cast, as well as a suite from Beck’s score. ‘McCanick’ Soundtrack Details
Milan Records will release a soundtrack album for the dramatic thriller McCanick. The album features the film’s original music composed by Johann Johannsson (Prisoners). The soundtrack will be released on January 28, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. McCanick is directed by Josh C. Waller and stars David Morse, Cory Monteith, Ciaran Hinds, Mike Vogel, Aaron Yoo, Rachel Nichols and Trevor Morgan.The movie tells the story of a narcotics detective on the hunt for a seemingly harmless young criminal who knows a truth about the cop’s past. The thriller premiered at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival and was picked up by Well Go USA for a theatrical release in the U.S. in March of 2014.

The album features a suite from the composer’s score, as well as the songs featured in the movie by such artists as The Roots, Chubb Rock, Kool Kojak, Speedometer, Digital Underground and PC’s Ltd. WaterTower Music will release a soundtrack album for the dramatic thriller Prisoners. The album features the film’s original music composed by Jóhann Jóhannsson (Personal Effects, For Ellen). The soundtrack will be released digitally on September 17, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Jóhann Jóhannsson has been hired to score the upcoming dramatic thriller Prisoners. The film is directed by Denis Villeneuve (Incendies) and stars Hugh Jackman, Melissa Leo, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, Viola Davis, Maria Bello, Terrence Howard and David Dastmalchian. The movie follows a small-town carpenter whose young daughter and best friend are kidnapped and discovers that elderly neighbors have been kidnapping and murdering children for years. Aaron Guzikowski (Contraband) has written the screenplay. Andrew Kosove & Broderick Johnson (The Blind Side, Insomnia, The Book of Eli) are producing for Alcon Entertainment, along with Kira Davis for 8:38 Productions and Adam Kolbrenner for Madhouse Entertainment.
Jóhann Jóhannsson Scoring ‘McCanick’
Jóhann Jóhannsson is currently recording his score for the upcoming crime drama McCanick. The film is directed by Josh C. Waller (Raze) and stars David Morse, Brandon Routh, Cory Monteith, Cirian Hinds and Mike Vogel. The movie follows a narcotics detective who gets caught up in a firestorm of paranoia and violence upon learning that a seemingly harmless young criminal has been released from prison. Daniel Noah has written the screenplay and Waller and Morse are executive producing the project with Ehud Bleiberg (The Iceman, The Band’s Visit). Jóhannsson’s previous film credits include last year’s For Ellen starring Paul Dano and Personal Effects starring Michelle Pfeiffer & Ashton Kutcher. The Icelandic composer is also known for his non-film work, which combines classical orchestration with electronic music. McCanick is currently in post-production and is expected to be released later this year.

Simmons and Nora Arnezeder. The film’s music is composed by Marcelo Zarvos (The Good Shepherd, The Door in the Floor).
