Johann Johannsson is reteaming with Denis Villeneuve on the upcoming sci-fi drama Story of Your Life. The film is based on a short story by Ted Chiang and stars Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Forest Whitaker and Michael Stuhlbarg. The movie takes place after alien crafts land around the world and follows an expert linguist who is recruited by the military to determine whether they come in peace or are a threat. Eric Heisserer (A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Thing) has written the screenplay.

The full details of the soundtrack album for the crime thriller Sicario have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music written by Oscar-nominated composer Johann Johannsson (The Theory of Everything) who previously scored the movie’s director Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners. Johann Johannsson, Trent Reznor, Jonny Greenwood, Tyler Bates, Christopher Lennertz & More Invited to Join Academy
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited 322 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures to join the organization. Among the invited artists this year a number of film composers, including Johann Johannsson (Prisoners, Sicario) who received his first Academy Award nomination earlier this year for his music for The Theory of Everything, Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross who received the Oscar in 2011 for their work on David Fincher’s The Social Network and recently reunited with the director on Gone Girl, Tyler Bates whose film scoring credits include last year’s hit film Guardians of the Galaxy, Jonny Greenwood whose film music work include Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood, The Master and Inherent Vice and Christopher Lennertz whose recent feature credits include Ride Along, Horrible Bosses 2 and The Wedding Ringer.
Elliot Goldenthal, Deborah Lurie, Johann Johannsson & Sean Callery Honored at ASCAP Film & TV Music Awards
Last night, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) held its annual Film & Television Music Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Elliot Goldenthal was honored with the ASCAP Founders Award, which is given to songwriters and composers who have made pioneering contributions to music by inspiring and influencing their fellow music creators. The Academy Award-winning composer was presented the award by director Michael Mann who collaborated with Goldenthal on Heat and Public Enemies. Goldenthal’s partner Julie Taymor who worked with him on Frida, Titus, Across the Universe and various stage productions, as well as Neil Jordan who collaborated with the composer on films including Interview with the Vampire and Michael Collins congratulated the composer via a video message.
SCL Hosts Reception for Academy Award-Nominated Composers and Songwriters
Yesterday afternoon, the Society of Composers & Lyricists (SCL) hosted its annual reception honoring the Academy Award-nominated composers and songwriters in the Best Original Score and Best Original Song category at the Cafe La Boheme in West Hollywood. Following a speech by Academy Music Branch Governor Charles Bernstein, SCL president Ashley Irwin introduced the nominees who briefly spoke to the audience. Three of the four nominated composers in the score category were in attendance, including Alexandre Desplat, nominated for the seventh and eight time for his scores for Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel and Morten Tyldum’s The Imitation Game, who talked about his experience as one of the industry’s top composers over the last decade and finding his own musical voice, while keeping his integrity.
Johann Johannsson Wins Golden Globe for ‘The Theory of Everything’
Johann Johannsson has received his first Golden Globe Award for his score for James Marsh’s The Theory of Everything starring Eddie Redmayne & Felicity Jones. The other composers nominated in the Best Original Score category were Alexandre Desplat (The Imitation Game), Antonio Sanchez (Birdman), Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross (Gone Girl) and Hans Zimmer (Interstellar).
In the Best Original Song category, John Legend and Common won the award for the song Glory from Selma.

Two new movies are opening this weekend:
Already playing in select theaters since this past Wednesday and opening nationwide today is the sci-fi drama Interstellar directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Michael Caine. The film’s original music is composed by Hans Zimmer (Inception, The Dark Knight, The Lion King, Gladiator). WaterTower Music will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music in two different editions on November 18. Check out our previous news article for the full album details. Henry Jackman (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Wreck-It-Ralph, X-Men: First Class) has composed the film’s original music. The soundtrack will be released digitally on December 1, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The album is also being released on Vinyl overseas. Audio clips are embedded after the jump. I Am Here is written and directed by Anders Morgenthaler and stars Kim Basinger, Jordan Prentice, Peter Stormare and Sebastian Schipper. The movie follows a successful career woman who finds out she is infertile and whose attempts to adopt lead her to the criminal work of infant prostitution in Eastern Europe.
