Amazon Content Services has released the official theme music for NBA on Prime. The composition, entitled Victory, is written by Grammy Award-winning artist Common in collaboration with musicians and composers Karriem Riggins (Mo, Alice) & Grammy Award winner James Poyser (Boxing Day, Long Bright River, Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story) and is now available to stream/download as a digital single on all major digital music services, including Amazon. The theme was recorded last month at Ocean Way Studio in Nashville with a 60-piece orchestra and will serve as the signature sound for NBA on Prime each week beginning with the 2025-26 season, which just launched last night on Prime Video.

‘Mo’ Season 2 Soundtrack Album Released
Netflix Music has released a new soundtrack album for the streamer’s original series Mo. The album features selections of the original music from the show’s second season composed by Common, Karriem Riggins and Patrick Warren ( The Chi, The Old Man, Alice). The soundtrack is now available to stream/download on Amazon and any other major digital music services. Also listen to the artists’ first track (Mo’s Dream) below. The label has previously released an EP featuring the trio’s score from the first season back in 2022. Mo is created by Mohammed Amer & Ramy Youssef and stars Amer himself, Teresa Ruiz, Farah Bsieso, Tobe Nwigwe, Simon Rex, Omar Elba, Johanna Braddy and Kamel El Basha.

Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the horror movie X written and directed by Ti West and starsring Mia Goth, Jenna Ortega, Brittany Snow, Martin Henderson, Stephen Ure, Owen Campbell and Scott Mescudi. The film’s original music is composed by Tyler Bates (Guardians of the Galaxy, Deadpool 2, Watchmen, Hobbs & Shaw, John Wick, 300, Dawn of the Dead) and singer/songwriter Chelsea Wolfe. A24 Music will release a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score next Friday, March 25. Already available now is Wolfe’s cover of Oui Oui Marie. BMI: Score to Screen Panels at Sundance Film Festival Announced
BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) has announced its programming for the 2022 Sundance Film Festival today with two virtual Score to Screen panels featuring two conversations that will give an inside look at the creative process of incorporating music in film while delving into the relationship between a composer and the film’s director or producer. Grammy and Academy Award winner Common and composer Patrick Warren (The Chi) co-produced and curated the music for the drama/thriller Alice written and directed by Krystin Ver Linden and starring Keke Palmer, Common himself, Jonny Lee Miller & Gaius Charles about a brave young woman who escapes a life of slavery on a secluded Georgia plantation, only to realize that not everything is as it seems. The performers of this year’s nominated songs at the 90th Oscars ceremony have been announced today by show producers Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd. Gael Garcia Bernal, Natalie LaFourcade and Miguel will perform Remember Me from Pixar’s Coco written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez & Robert Lopez. Bernal provided the voice of the main character in the film and Miguel & LaFourcade recorded the end credits version of the song. Mary J. Blige will perform Might River from Dee Rees’ Mudbound, which she co-wrote with Raphael Saadiq and Taura Stinson.
Common, Robert Glasper & Karriem Riggins Win Emmy Award for ‘Letter to the Free’ from ’13th’
Common, Robert Glasper and Karriem Riggins have received the Emmy Award for the original song Letter to the Free from Ava DuVernay’s Netflix documentary 13th in the Music & Lyrics category at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Common & Glasper accepted their first Emmy Award in person at the ceremony at the Microsoft Theatre LA LIVE in Downtown Los Angeles. The song was previously nominated for the Critics Choice Awards earlier this year. In the Outstanding Music Direction category, Rickey Minor was honored for his work on the ABC special Taking The Stage: African American Music and Stories That Changed America.
Andra Day’s & Common’s ‘Stand Up for Something’ from ‘Marshall’ to Be Released
Warner Bros. Records will release the original song Stand Up for Something from the upcoming drama Marshall. The track is written by Diane Warren and Common and is performed by Andra Day feat. Common. The song will be released as a digital single tomorrow and will be available download on Amazon. Warren has previously written numerous songs for movies and received Academy Award nominations for such hit songs as Because You Loved Me from Up Close & Personal, I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing from Armageddon, How Do I Live from Con Air and Til it Happens to You from The Hunting Ground, among others. Common received an Academy Award for the song Glory from Ava DuVernay’s Selma.
Netflix’s ‘Burning Sands’ to Feature Original Song by Common
Common (aka Lonnie Lynn) is performing the original end credits song The Cross for the Netflix original movie Burning Sands. The track is performed by Common & singer-songwriter Lianne La Havas, written by Common, Karriem Riggins, Robert Glasper and Samora Pinderhuges. Riggins and Glasper are also producing the song. Burning Sands is directed by Gerard McMurray and stars Trevor Jackson, Alfre Woodard, Steve Harris, Tosin Cole, DeRon Horton and Trevante Rhodes. The drama takes place in the world of fraternities and follows a favored pledgee who is torn between honoring his code of silence or standing up against the intensifying violence of underground hazing.
